No stick to one doctor. Medicines take atleast 4-6 weeks to come in full action may be more in severe depression, but it will certainly work. Also, never stop medication on your own or the patient will relapse with even more intensity of symptoms. Have faith. Its not like headache you have one pill and get over the ache, this will take time just like it took time to build up.

Hi, Thanks for writing in, welcome to the forum. Very often, anxiety is triggered by disturbing events in the surroundings. If this death in the neighborhood happened recently and only 2-3 weeks ago, then it is alright. Just give your cousin some time and she will come out of this. But if a much longer time has elapsed, it is probably an anxiety disorder that has been precipitated by the incident. It will need a detailed evaluation by a psychiatrist. There are no short cut solutions in this scenario. But fortunately, these kinds of problems are common and usually do not pose a major problem and are treated easily. Hope that answers the question and helps you. Take care!

How does smoking of weed effects in long term and what precocious need to be taken?

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
The immediate effects of taking marijuana include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness. Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety. But the problem does not end there. According to scientific studies, the active ingredient in cannabis, THC, remains in the body for weeks or even months. Marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke. One major research study reported that a single cannabis joint could cause as much damage to the lungs as up to five regular cigarettes smoked one after another. Long-time joint smokers often suffer from bronchitis, an inflammation of the respiratory tract. The drug can affect more than your physical health. Studies in Australia in 2008 linked years of heavy marijuana use to brain abnormalities. This is backed up by earlier research on the long-term effects of marijuana, which indicate changes in the brain similar to those caused by long-term abuse of other major drugs. And a number of studies have shown a connection between continued marijuana use and psychosis. Marijuana can change the structure of sperm cells, deforming them. Thus even small amounts of marijuana can cause temporary sterility in men. Marijuana use can also disrupt a woman’s menstrual cycle.(29) Studies show that the mental functions of people who have smoked a lot of marijuana tend to be diminished. The THC in cannabis disrupts nerve cells in the brain, affecting memory. Cannabis is one of the few drugs that causes abnormal cell division, which leads to severe hereditary defects. A pregnant woman who regularly smokes marijuana or hashish may give birth prematurely to an undersized, underweight baby. Over the last 10 years many children of marijuana users have been born with reduced initiative and lessened abilities to concentrate and pursue life goals. Studies also suggest that prenatal (before birth) use of the drug may result in birth defects, mental abnormalities and increased risk of leukemia (cancer of the bone marrow) in children.

I am 39 years old male and have sleeping disorder (poor sleeping) * anxiety
*anger
*negative thoughts again and again...
I hope you are aware that the lack of sleep alone can cause all of the other symptoms. It is also possible that these other symptoms can cause the lack of sleep too. So what to do? Meet with a counselor and sort your emotional disturbance first and see what happens. In the meantime. Follow these recommendations to get some sleep: In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.

Good Morning ~ It is not unusual in south INDIA for men to get married to their cousins (i.e. Your maternal uncles daughter or your paternal aunts daughter), however a relationship between you and your cousin sister (i.e. Your maternal aunts daughter and your paternal uncles son) are forbidden in south INDIAn HINDU culture. If you believe that you can fit into these cultural traditions I recommend that you consult your elders in the family for the same. I hope you feel better with the solution to your problems. If you continue to have any issues or questions, please let me know.

You are under some stress and you are not aware of it. Meet with a counselor and sort that out. In the meantime do some of these recommendations very faithfully: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food. You may also include these noted foods that are good for your brain health: Brain-Friendly Foods MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. But the MIND approach “specifically includes foods and nutrients that medical literature and data show to be good for the brain, such as berries,” says Martha Clare Morris, ScD, director of nutrition and nutritional epidemiology at Rush University Medical Center. You eat things from these 10 food groups: •Green leafy vegetables (like spinach and salad greens): At least six servings a week •Other vegetables: At least one a day •Nuts: Five servings a week •Berries: Two or more servings a week •Beans: At least three servings a week •Whole grains: Three or more servings a day •Fish: Once a week •Poultry (like chicken or turkey): Two times a week •Olive oil: Use it as your main cooking oil. •Wine: One glass a day You avoid: •Red meat: Less than four servings a week •Butter and margarine: Less than a tablespoon daily •Cheese: Less than one serving a week •Pastries and sweets: Less than five servings a week •Fried or fast food: Less than one serving a week.

I have all the symptoms of ADD what should I do. I cannot concentrate on anything and I get bored with everything.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Try to exercise on most days. You don’t have to go to the gym. A 30-minute walk four times a week is enough to provide benefits. Thirty minutes of activity every day is even better. Pick something enjoyable, so you’ll stick with it. Choose activities that play to your physical strengths or that you find challenging yet fun. Team sports can be a good choice because the social element keeps them interesting. Get out into nature. Studies show that spending time in nature can reduce the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. Double up on the benefits by combining “green time” with exercise. Try hiking, trail running, or walking in a local park or scenic area. Tips for getting better sleep Have a set bedtime and stick to it, and get up at the same time each morning, even if you’re tired. Make sure your bedroom is completely dark and keep electronics out (even the dim light from digital clocks or your cellphone can disrupt sleep). Avoid caffeine later in the day, or consider cutting it out entirely. Implement a quiet hour or two before bed. Try to turn off all screens (TV, computer, smartphone, etc.) at least an hour before bedtime. If your medication is keeping you up at night, talk with your doctor about taking a lower dose or taking it earlier in the day.

Hi, I was an occasional drinker. However off late my drinking has increased and now I drink almost everyday. Eventhough my intake is something like 2 beers at most a day, I have it almost every day. I would like to restrict this habit and be a social drinker. How can I prevent myself from being a full blown alcoholic and control this urge for alcohol.

FECSM ( spain), Fellow of European Society of Sexual Medicine., School of Sexual Medicine, DPM, MBBS
Sexologist, Pune
Hello, this daily drinking habit will lead to dependency. Not sure since hoe long you are having alcohol on daily basis. Find out the triggering factor for alcohol consumption and try to solve it. Do you get craving for alcohol? if you have withdrawal symptoms I would advice you to meet nearby psychiatrist and get treated. You can have dinner before your usual time of drinking which would reduce your craving. Avoid going out with bad company. Spend quality time with family. Try to wake up early morning and practice yoga, breathing exercise, jogging, meditation etc which will keep you motivated. Start taking b complex tablets.

Hi Nik, Nothing comes with guarantee in life. There are always risks and chances we have to take. We have to be convinced on the choices we make in our life. When you started with relation you must have seen something worth to take that step. Insecurities are a part of every relation but if you cant convince yourself that she will be be worth it or if she is serious for you let it go. Because otherwise you are in a prison from where there is no escape. You will continuously be in insecurities and they will harm you and your relation. You can ask her upfront what she wants, how she sees the relationship and since you know her the best make a decision about being together or not. sometimes our insecurities are baseless and we should consciously make an effort to overcome it by thinking about worthwhile things, being busy, make your career. always remember, the right people will stay while be thankful for the wrong people leaving your life. You can help her to the limit possible for you, you don;t have to go out of the way. This way you will help also and may not regret majorly if anything goes wrong. Have faith for once let go off the insecurities and see. Whatever happens happens for good.

How can I reduce smoking?

PhD (Psychology), MSc Psychology, MS
Psychologist,
Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you?re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse?no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn?t easy. But it?s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Mind power building therapy, motivation therapy etc should help you doing so. I think one or two online counseling sessions and these therapies should help you. Take care.

Well you have just provided information that you have anxiety neurosis. But you need detailed evaluation to know your correct problem, because anxiety neurosis is an old common word used for many problems related to the anxiety spectrum. I think you have not consulted a psychiatrist yet. Kindly consult a psychiatrist who can guide you and help you through. Don't try to self meditate yourself, there are other potent drugs than corus and amixide which may be useful for you.

I have a phobia which scare me to get into the enclosed places such as Lift, metro rail and closed room if some lock from outside. When i lock from inside there is no problem. I have cervical problem also. Please guide me.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Phobias are fear-based problems where you exaggerate the stimulus to very frightful proportions. You have very high level of fear which you are not dealing with properly. You will need to meet with a counselor to identify that and find ways to counter it effectively. Now because of that fear you explain it rather clearly that if you are in control, the phobia is less: like closing the door from inside gives you control, whereas if it is shut from the outside you have no control. As a result you may have control issues too. The cervical problem could be stress induced - all connected to the scare. Fear is such a common human trait that there have been special schools devoted to the study and understanding of it. You are not alone but do reach out and resolve this soon for you to enjoy a normal and peaceful life.
