Is influenza vaccine mandatory for an infant? He is 7 months old and already got the first dose in the 6th month. Now my doc. Is saying to give him the 2nd dose in the 7th month. I am just worried that it should not be an extra vaccine which is just good to have.

At this age given soaked and peeled almond one is enough in the beginning. Rub on stone like chandan then give the almond paste for better utilization in the body.

Hello lybrate-user! as per your history it seems that baby has received bcg vaccination on left arm on deltoid region. It is normal to develop pustule after 4to 6 week which will burst and heal leaving scar mark behind which will remain for life time. If any swelling develops in left axilla (lymph node) or in neck gland swellling then inform your pediatrician.

Causes and symptoms of Baby Bottle Tooth Decay

Diploma in Paediatrics, MD (Physician)
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Causes and symptoms of Baby Bottle Tooth Decay

Baby bottle syndrome is a decay that affects the milk teeth in children who fall asleep with a bottle containing sugary drinks. Prolonged contact between the liquid and the surface of the teeth promotes the destruction of tooth enamel.

Causes and symptoms

The symptoms of baby bottle tooth decay are discoloration of the tooth (enamel), with the formation of yellow or black spots on the surface.

When a child falls asleep with a bottle containing sugary liquids such as milk, fruit juice, sugar water, or with a pacifier dipped in honey or syrup - bacteria present in the mouth, (streptococcus mutans to be precise) transform the sugar into lactic acid.

Normally, the saliva helps to neutralize this acidity, but its production declines during sleep. Thus, teeth are subjected to acid attacks that promote the formation of cavities. As milk teeth are weaker than permanent teeth, decay can be quick with enamel getting hit first, then dentin and finally the pulp in the centre of the tooth.

At this stage, the infection can spread rapidly to other teeth, causing significant pain when the dental abscess formation often requires removal of the damaged teeth.

Precautions

To avoid it, the first thing to do of course is to stop giving your child a sweetened drink at night or when putting the child for a nap. You should also brush your baby's milk teeth twice a day, especially at bedtime with a cotton swab and water and in a year - with a toothbrush and toothpaste.

In case, the teeth are already decayed or you have doubts about it (staining of the tooth that becomes pink or white can be the harbinger of decay), consult a paediatric dentist immediately. Decayed milk teeth may lead to deformation of the permanent teeth if not attended to immediately.

As narrated earlier, we should try to maintain proper hygienic condition while eating, drinking, mouth gargles etc. The container which we use for taking any food/water etc. Should be properly cleaned. Infection can be treated by proper antibiotics etc. But to avoid repeated infection, proper hygiene is tb maintained. As repeated infection lowers the immunity of body and invites to get infection again. This is a vicious circle which nedds to be taken care. Thus treatment is in the hands of parent for avoiding repeated infection. Doctor can only treat the infection once it is there.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Practice "Enlightened selfishness" along with the children.
.
"Enlightened Selfishness" says Aristotle, "Is doing good to others. It is not duty, it is joy,for it increases your own health and happiness" Franklin Benjamin said the same thing in simple words " when you are good to others, you are best to yourself"
Why not do a good deed to other (as a parent) each passing day, so our children learn about Enlightened Selfishness. And what is a good deed? A good deed is one that brings smile of joy to the face of another.

Avoid All types of soap shampoo Talc Powder Oils for skin, opt for plane water bath Until then you can apply Crude petroleum Jelly twice daily in moist - wet skin. You can also take Homeopathic Medicines like petroleum 30, Sulphur 200 on prescription of homeopathic consultant only.

General Physician,

THere is no hearing loss. But OAE refers to lsoo in certain frequency and repeat it later Pure-tone (PT) audiometry measures throughout the outer ear, middle ear, cochlea, cranial nerve (CN) VIII, and central auditory system. However, OAEs measure only the peripheral auditory system, which includes the outer ear, middle ear, and cochlea. The response only emanates from the cochlea, but the outer and middle ear must be able to transmit the emitted sound back to the recording microphone. OAE testing often is used as a screening tool to determine the presence or absence of cochlear function, although analysis can be performed for individual cochlear frequency regions. OAEs cannot be used to fully describe an individual's auditory thresholds, but they can help question or validate other threshold measures (eg, in suspected functional [feigned] hearing loss), or they can provide information about the site of the lesion. Using current technology, most researchers and clinicians find a correlation between frequency-specific analysis of TOAEs/DPOAEs and cochlear hearing loss. However, at this juncture, the correlation cannot fully describe auditory threshold. Naturally, a correlation would not be expected for noncochlear hearing loss.

If the baby is breastfed exclusively infective diarrhoea is uncommon. I think baby is having increased frequency of stools especially after feeds due to exaggerated gastrocolic reflex. If the stools are well formed you can ignore.

Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

It looks like a contact dermatitis which gets exaggerated after exposure to a particular allergen. You must find out and avoid it. That is the best solution.

Hi my daughter is 2 months old and I breastfeed her after sucking for few minutes she sleeps while feeding and I don 't understand whether her stomach is full or not, so since last few days i've started pumping my milk through a manual machine n feeding her will it decrease the supply of my breast milk? please help me.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
All babies sleep while feeding and most of the say time. If sh e sleeps you have to scratch her feet or ear and wake her up. Using pump will not be needed then and it is not known to decrease milk
