Hy, I'm Rahul and I worried about my eyes, my eyes is so weak, right - 0.25 and left - 0.75. And I wanna join in Delhi police. I don't have much more time, I think Delhi police physical test held in 3 month. So may you give me a advice. What should I do. What a home treatment and something else.

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Unfortunately there are no natural medications to remove spectacles permanently. Glasses, contact lenses and surgery are the only three options for good vision if you having spectacle power but considering you need to join police, you need to get some guidelines from them for your vision requirements.

My 5-year-old daughter has asthma. What is the effect of using an asthma preventer long-term? I heard that using it for years might cause bone shrinkage. Is it true? Are there any vitamins or supplements to help vision?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Asthma is a disease of the lungs, not the bones. So the question is that is there any connection between Asthma and bones. The most important connection relates to the anti-inflammatory steroids (corticosteroids) used to treat asthma. Corticosteroids, if taken regularly or for many months of the year, can have major effects on the bones. This is especially true of steroids taken orally. In children, they can impair bone growth, leading to lesser height as an adult. In adults, steroids can decrease bone mass and predispose them to osteoporosis, a thinning of the bones. Osteoporosis can put you at risk for fractures, sometimes with minimal or no trauma. It can cause vertebrae in your back to collapse in on themselves (vertebral compression fractures), ribs to break with coughing or twisting, and hips to break when you fall. Because of the impact on bones and other side effects of oral corticosteroids, safer alternatives to treat asthma were developed. Inhaled corticosteroids are now available in many forms ( dry-powder inhalers, or a solution for nebulization). Inhaled steroids are far safer for your bones because they are given at a fraction of the dose of oral steroids, with only a small portion entering the bloodstream. However, if the dose of inhaled steroid is high enough and the duration of use long enough (several years), it is possible that inhaled steroids, like oral steroids, can still affect your bone health.

I have spectacles since 2007. My power rises a little every year. Currently it is -4 in one eye and -3.75 in the other. Is it possible to correct my vision by any eye exercise? If so, please may I know what exercise I should do? I don't want to use contact lens. And lasik treatment might have side effects as far as I've heard. Please suggest.:)

Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery (FCRS), DNB (Ophthalmology), MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Mumbai
In the first case, if your number is increasing significantly every year then no surgeon will advise a lasik for you until it stabilises. The growth of your body occasionally correlates with your increasing spectacle number (unless you have an underlying pathology due to which number keeps increasing) unfortunately exercise only help reduce eye strain but not control or reduce your number. Lasik is a safe and recommended procedure if you are not comfortable with contact lenses. Everyone cannot undergo a lasik. You first need to get a thorough evaluation and only if all tests are normal can you do it. Kindly visit a lasik surgeon for more details.

Day by day I can't see the far objects, I loosing my eye tightness, How could I get my eye normal? What is the name of this defect?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, This is called Myopia. Include the following for getting better vision: Vitamins A, C, E, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic, onions and capers. Blueberries, grapes, and goji berries have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. DHA is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like wild salmon, sardines, mackerel, and cod. Exercises for eyes: Warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing rather reducing the power of your eyes. Take Physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

I am 20 year old boy I have problems in eye. My eye is red and like burning during the day what I should do? And I have also problem with eye number in right 1 no. But I can not wear goggles. because my eye is also burning.

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology, Diploma in Ophthalmology , Fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment
Ophthalmologist, Ahmedabad
First of all if you have refraction than you should wear glasses. And where as the question of burning sensation it depends on various aspects like infection, your working environment as well as sensitivity of your eyes and so many. So I can not assure you the perfect reason but it can be from one of those. For that you visit a near by doctor and get full eye checkup.

Example I have red eyes for three days what should I do? (I am asking as I will get balance from earn talktime)

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello dear there are many causes for redness of eyes mainly allergy, infection, inflammation and dry eyes etc. 1. Redness + itching: allergy 2. Redness + pain+ watering + decreased vision: infection 3. Redness + pain: inflammation 4. Redness+ foreign body sensation: dryness if there is only redness then it is normal as slight exposure to dust, temperature or air or eyes may be red in morning. Stress may also cause redness. I usually do not treat when there is only redness, you can 1. Blink a lot 2. Wash eyes with fresh water 3. Cold compresses 4. Use lubricating eyedrop like flogel these measures will help to keep your eyes healthy but it will not have any effect on redness (treating generalredness alone is not necessary also) having said that you should consult local ophthalmologist for proper examination and treatment.

I have a problem of eye sight week and due to this I feel inconvenience and so I need help and your suggestion so please suggest me.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Weak eyesight has multiple factors associated with it. To enumerate a few: (1)Refractive error- Change of the power of glasses is the commonest cause of weak eyesight. In fact, if you have not used glasses previously, it might be possible that you might need to use them now. (2)Age related changes in the lens of the eye-This is generally known as cataract. This is present in varying proportions in a majority of population above 55 years. This means that some degree of cataract is usually found in the age group over 55 years. (3)Retina problem-Different degenerations of the retina usually lead to weakening of the eyesight. The degeneration may be caused due to progressive age. It may also occur due to a high minus number of the eye (myopia). (4)Cornea related problem- Cornea is the anterior (front) part of the eye. Certain issues with the cornea may cause weakening of the eyesight. Thus, it would be a good idea to consult an eye specialist IN PERSON and get your eyes evaluated for the cause of weakening eyesight. Hope my suggestions help. feel free to contact me for any other details that you might require. Take care, regards,- Dr. Chaitanya.

Sir I am a student and I will reading every time and I am not comfortable to read properly I think my eyes site is week if possible sugest me what can I do use eyeglass or not l please reply on my given mail id.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello. There is no medication or food for improving eye sight or to get rid of glasses. Get your vision tested and wear glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens as your age is now 21 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.
