I am having a pain on my chest for a while now. Sometimes it radiates from the armpit to the shoulders and sometimes to the left hand. Is it some heart related problem or something else?

Dear, Heart attack symptoms typically follow a classic pattern. This list includes several common signs and symptoms of heart attacks. The person does not need to have every symptoms told here to be having a heart attack, but if two or more of the symptoms are present then it is important to call emergency. Chest Pain The most common and regularly documented symptom of a heart attack is chest pain. The pain can feel like anything, but usually is dull or aching.Heart attack chest pain is usually very steady. It doesn’t typically increase or decrease with movement or palpation (touching or pushing on the chest). It likely will come on suddenly, without warning. Chest pressure Pressure or heaviness in the chest can be independent of chest pain, but often goes together. Pain in the arm, neck or jaw Shortness of Breathing Most often, pressure in the chest makes the person feel as if he or she is being suffocated.Heart attacks can also cause fluid in the lungs, which leads to severe shortness of breath. Sweating Heart attacks cause stress on the heart and it tells the brain, which leads to the “fight or flight” stress response. Nausea Like sweating, nausea is a very common response to stress. Fatigue The same decreases in blood flow that can lead to passing out or trouble breathing also cause fatigue. Syncope As a heart attack progresses, damaged heart muscle leads to a loss of blood pressure and decreased blood flow to the brain.

I have developed a fatty heart. please tell what measures to take and possible cure?

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Fatty liver is a condition where your liver has become super-saturated with fats. To understand fatty liver- you need to understand that our body needs to break down dietary fats that we eat, into tiny particles called fatty acids so that they can be utilised for various other needs in the body. This enormous task is delegated to our liver. Our liver works day in and day out any rest to keep on processing this fat that we eat. When inspite of its fast pace the liver is overburdened by excessive fat intake- it starts to accumulate fats and becomes fatty. So the simplest and easiest cure is to watch the fats that you consume in diet. You may argue that you hardly take any fats but once you start paying attention you will realise that we consume a lot of fats without even consciously knowing.

It could suggest pneumonia or some form of infection in the right lung. But the clinical history is very important. Do you have fever and if so since how long? Do you have cough with expectoration? Is there a histor of tuberculosis?

Cornflakes can be taken in evening snacks for diabetic, hypertension and early CKD patient? If not what is the most suitable evening snacks for the patient on low protein diet?

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Hye. Food planning will depend on the amount of proteins that you need for the day. To decide the proteins, other nutrients many parameters need to be considered. This requires personalised planning. You don't want to end up eating low amounts of protein too. Cornflakes is not low protein, neither is it low sodium or potassium as well. You might want to skip packaged foods.

MY reports indicate : Triglycerides 344, ldl hdl ratio 3.7, tchdl cholesterol ratio 6.7, vldl cholesterol 68.86, which tablet should I take?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine

High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain.garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

I am 72 years old ,I am a pacemaker patient ,my pacemaker operation done on 16th september 2016, sir please tell me can I use mobile phones, if yes than how many days?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear Lybrateuser, -A mobile phone can cause electromagnetic interference with a pacemaker, if this happens then it can interfere with the pacemaker by stopping it from delivering the stimulating pulsesthat regulate the hearts rhythm -causing the pacemaker to deliver the pulses irregularly -use some precautions like hold the phone to the ear opposite to the side of body where the pacemaker is implanted, avoid placing the turned on phone next to the pacemaker implant, don't carry it in a pocket over the place where pacemaker is implanted -try to keep it away from the body & use it only when necessary.

Physiotherapy very important. If brain cells are permanently damaged recovery is unlikely. However she is lucky to be walking. Rehab very essential.

Is it a Heart Attack or A Panic Attack?

M.B.B.S. , PG Diploma In Clinical Cardiology
Cardiologist, Delhi
Is it a Heart Attack or A Panic Attack?

Most of the symptoms of a panic attack are physical, and many times these symptoms are so severe that people think they’re having a heart attack. In fact, many people suffering from panic attacks make repeated trips to the doctor or the emergency room in an attempt to get treatment for what they believe is a life-threatening medical problem. While it’s important to rule out possible medical causes of symptoms such as chest pain, heart palpitations, or difficulty breathing, it’s often panic that is overlooked as a potential cause—not the other way around.
