Constipation - Know Its Naturopathic Treatment!!

Constipation - Know Its Naturopathic Treatment!!

Constipation is the most widely found problem of mankind. Almost the largest number of drugs, are available for the problem and largest sums of money are spent by people to get rid of it. Even then the medical science does not recognise it as a serious disease.

To some extent they are correct. Constipation is not a disease as such, it is merely a condition but it can be responsible for attacks of almost all diseases which are effecting the humans. Unfortunately it is also spreading wildly as the civilization is spreading and eating refined foods is becoming fashionable. Many drugs also cause constipation. If so the prescribing doctor should be immediately contacted for change of the prescription.

The present treatment of the condition is drugs of three different types.
A) Lubricating
B) Bulk forming
C) Agitating

Lubricating drugs include various oils, milk of magnesia etc. These drugs lubricate the elementary canal and/or lubricate the faeces and thus facilitate the movement. These are the least damaging type of drugs. Yet they can make even undigested foods to pass through the system or cause diarrhoea.

Bulk forming drugs include isabgol, rice bran etc. When the bulk is increased the faeces move and are expelled faster. It should be remembered that these are just substitutes for the fibre which is lost during various processes adopted in kitchens. It is clearly foolishness to first throw away the natural fibre and replace it by purchasing substitutes from the market. Further rejected natural fibre carries away several essential nutrients with them, which are not replaced by the additives.

The agitating type drugs include several herbs and chemicals which are not acceptable to the system and therefore the system works extra harder to get rid of them. These ultimately tire out the system and weaken it. The weakened system requires more powerful drugs and the endless race starts. Thus this category causes maximum harm to the digestive system.

It is now obvious that all the above drugs are not the cure for constipation. These have only a onetime effect and can harm the system.

In fact the cure for constipation lies in life style itself. To get rid of it one should follow the following advice:

  • Avoid refined foods.
  • Eat maximum foods in raw form.
  • Eat lots of salads and fruits so that there is enough fibre in the food.
  • Avoid refined flour (Maida), polished rice etc.
  • Do some regular exercise so that the body, including gut is in good health.
  • Eat sprouted boiled pulses instead of pulses available in the market.
  • Do not peel all those vegetables which can be used without peeling. Even if peeling is absolutely necessary do by minimum possible.
  • Drink sufficient water. (Humans need about 3 litres of water every day).
  • Try discharge faeces twice a day-Morning and Evening.
  • Never ignore an urge. Attend to it as early as possible.

Even then sometimes the faeces become dry and hard. In all such cases instead of applying pressure it is better to take a plain water enema (Douche). It is totally harmless, does not form habit, and convenient to take. It is very important to get rid of constipation. Since constipation is the main cause of several diseases. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a yoga-and-naturopathy.

You have to follow healthy dietary habbits. Maintain a healthy weight, go for exercise. Avoid fried fatty food, junk food, preserved food. Sugar and salt intake sould be moderate. Start taking 1 tsp Amla and 1 tsp alovera juice in a cup of water every early morning as it helps in detoxification of the liver and would help in better nutrient absorption. Do some physical activity. Follow healthy breakfast, have fruits, healthy lunch including high fibre like salads and veggies. Follow green tea twicea day. Follow light dinner. Drink plenty of water.

I am 52 years male, I have acne, block head on nose, forehead and back. And also I have black patch type block heads on both sides of nose. I am facing acidity problem for many years. Please give me advice.

For pimples it's important to wash your face twice daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface, avoid touching your face or propping your cheek or chin on your hands. Not only can you spread bacteria, you can also irritate the already inflamed facial skin. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring. A dietary therapy for pimples can also help a lot. I am a registered dietitian and a doctor who will help you in your skin problems reply back for private consultation.

I am taking 200 ml corex cough syrup daily past 8 yrs. How to quit this habit. Pls some one help me.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Hello, thanks for your query. I appreciate your efforts for medical consultation in so much distress. Corex is a cough syrup and it contain chlorpheniramine maleate (cpm) and codeine phosphate. Cpm causes sedation. Codeine is an opioid compound which causes feeling of wellbeing and it is responsible for corex addiction. Opioid are highly addictive substance. It lead to psychological and physical dependence on it. Sudden stoppage of corex lead to severe withdrawal like anxiety, lack of sleep, diarrhea and body ache etc. Which make it impossible to leave corex without help. Apart from that patient motivation is also needed to quit it. To quit corex help of psychiatrist is needed as deaddiction is a complex and specialised work. For de addiction from corex following steps are followed: -consent of the patient: so motivate him for treatment. -motivational interviewing: by the psychiatrist. -stoppage of corex with prevention of discomfort or withdrawal by safe and long acting opioid compounds. Slowly tapering and stoppage of opioid compound over a period of few days. -relapse prevention counseling. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. In case of any doubt, I will be available for follow ups.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. First and foremost is to achieve a strict blood glucose control with fasting <100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c%<6.8. Then one can look at other so called healthy drinks. Wines do contain a lot of sugar. Not really healthy for diabetes. Thanks.

How many times a month it is safe to masturbate? Are than any side effects of excess masturbation?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

How many times a month it is safe to masturbate? Are than any side effects of excess masturbation?
There is no fixed recommended quantity of masturbation. Whatever the frequency, addiction, where you obsess about it and feel compelled to do it, is when there is a problem. Masturbation is not really bad; it is the addiction to it that is bad. Not even the number of years is a problem but the frequency and compulsiveness to do it is to be considered for its ill-effects. At your age you may feel it difficult and it can become addictive if you have alone time, if you obsess about it, and if you are not into relationships. The problem with addiction to this is that you may go on to prefer masturbation to heterosexual contact, even when you are married. That obviously would be an insult to your wife and will lead to a lot of conflict. Heterosexual contact is very wholesome and the physiology is made exactly for penile and vaginal contact. You will instead enjoy a poor replica of this and not know or care for the difference. The second thing that can happen with addiction is that it will become compulsive and will have no boundaries or limits, since it can be done all by yourself, whenever, wherever, and however too. The big problem a lot of children get into is the guilt around this. A useful way to discharge the energy is to get into contact games, or exercises, or even hobbies to channelize it. Also you should not spend too much time alone, and you need to keep your mind occupied with other interesting things and a lot of socializing. Even if you are not interested in marriage, for whatever reasons, it will help you to get into a friendship with a girl and enjoy the relationship where there will be a lot of excitement when you fall in love. Right now your hormones may be very active and your physiological apparatus is primed and ready for sexual stimulation. But because of your age and even otherwise it is important to develop good control and not feed into your impulses. Keeping yourself occupied and living a healthy social life are the keys to manage your sexual drives.

How to do Kegel exercises for men

It takes diligence to identify your pelvic floor muscles and understand how to contract and relax them. Here are some pointers:

Find the right muscles. To identify your pelvic floor muscles, stop urination in midstream or tighten the muscles that keep you from passing gas. These are your pelvic floor muscles. If you contract your pelvic floor muscles while looking in the mirror, the base of your penis will move closer to your abdomen and your testicles will rise.
Perfect your technique. Once you've identified your pelvic floor muscles, empty your bladder and lie on your back with your knees bent and apart. Tighten your pelvic floor muscles, hold the contraction for three seconds, and then relax for three seconds. Try it a few times in a row but don't overdo it. When your muscles get stronger, try doing Kegel exercises while sitting, standing or walking.
Maintain your focus. For best results, focus on tightening only your pelvic floor muscles. Be careful not to flex the muscles in your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Avoid holding your breath. Instead, breathe freely during the exercises.
Repeat 3 times a day. Aim for at least three sets of 10 repetitions a day.

I am kidney transplant patient my surgery is two month old While intercourse I ejaculated in 1 minutes why? Pls help.

DGO, MBBS
Sexologist,
I am kidney transplant patient my surgery is two month old
While intercourse I ejaculated in 1 minutes why? Pls help.
Quick discharge/ Premature Ejaculation is very common and is usually not associated with any disease but may be due to anxiety, sometimes however there may be problem with prostate gland and thyroid hormone. Most often it is a chronic problem and you have to take medicines off and on. Also there are exercises to control it. You can learn to control quick discharge by doing this exercise- pull your muscles that you pull at the end of urination for few seconds then release repeat this several times daily. Another is stop-start technique: when you feel that you are going to ejaculate stop the sexual stimulation and divert your mind, the penis will relax, after sometime start the stimulation again and repeat the procedure. Over few months you will gradually increase your ejaculation time.
