You can create your own remedy at home by mixing up to two teaspoons of honey with herbal tea or warm water and lemon. The honey does the soothing, while the lemon juice can help with congestion. You can also simply eat the honey by the spoonful or spread it on bread for a snack.

How to Deal With Insect Inside Ear

How to Deal With Insect Inside Ear

It is that time of the year when insects are all around. Suddenly one feels a buzzing sound or an itchy feel in the ear. To your horror, one feels a live insect is in your ear, which can be extremely annoying and is like a nightmare. Insects often get stuck when they enter our ears as they cannot fly or crawl out. They try to find their way out and their movements inside our ears can be very uncomfortable, painful and can be itchy as well. Moreover, they can easily produce infection.

In this scenario, do not try to remove an insect with cotton swab, tweezers or hair clip as it will make the situation worse and can lodge the insect deeper into the ear canal, which can possibly damag the eardrum, leading to permanent hearing loss. If an individual is not certain about the potential harm taht can be caused by the insect in the ear, one should seek medical care immediately. Insects in the ear are common reasons for visits to doctor's clinic, especially in children.

If one suspects an insect in ear, one may experience pain, swelling, blood or crackling. One may even feel biting, stinging, hearing loss or dizziness. It is best to stay calm in this situation as being active may lodge the bug further in ear or cause it to move further back or cause serious damage to the sensitive eardrum

One way to try to remove a bug in ear is by tilting the ear toward the ground and attempt to wiggle the ear. Grasp the earlobe and give it a wiggle. If the bug is not too far into ear canal, it may fall out on its own. If the bug is still alive and is not too far inside of the ear canal, it may simply come out on its own. If one stays calm and keep objects including fingers away from ears, it is likely that the bug will find its way back out of ear.

One can also try to flush the ear with warm water with a dropper or a bulb syringe. This can be done by holding head upright and stretching the ear canal by pulling the outer ear and then putting a steady stream of warm water into ear. Tilt head to the side to drain out the ear. Do not try this if one suspects that ear drum has been ruptured to prevent additional damage.

To avoid stinging or eardrum rupture from scratching or biting , one may use a drop or two of mineral, baby, or olive oil inside your ear canal to kill the insect. Finally, visit an ENT specialist doctor as they can remove the insect by special suction devices. Post insect removal, one must look out for signs of infection as swelling, dizziness, hearing loss, fever, and pain. Finally follow up with ENT specialist or Otolaryngologist for the final opinion.

It could be due to ear infection because of entry of water during swimming. Take a course of antibiotic and put ear drop after consulting doctor. Plug your ear while swimming.

Super Fact of the Day: An hour of wearing headphones can see the bacteria count increase in your ear by 700 times!

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Super Fact of the Day: An hour of wearing headphones can see the bacteria count increase in your ear by 700 times!

When you wear a pair of headphones, you end up blocking the entry of natural air into your ear, which causes bacteria to increase by 700 times inside within an hour! As a result, your eardrums respond with pain or hearing loss, as they are unable to bear the invasion of bacteria in such huge numbers.

Both of these are different disease processes as such, neck pains are due to cervical muscles strain due to wrong positioning while sleeping as at your age cervical spondylosis is not common, and secondly head pain is partial type of migraine

Your medicine in your sentences only, because due to smoking you have problem & in another sentence you have dust allergy & for that you took medicine. If you can't stop smoking it means medicine will be made complication, smoke means dust particles which is causative for your suffering you have to stop then only any medicine will be applicable. If you can't stop smoking at least stop all medicine this will not get complication & side effect. Other than all this you may consult me for any clarification & treatment.

Dear lybrate user, as you are a teacher by profession you might be delivering lectures everyday. This is not going to help your condition. Also, your jogging every morning is not good for you either as the breathing rate goes up and the cough cough get further aggravated. As you may not be able to stop delivering lectures, it is adviceable you temporarily stop your jogging till your throat has healed. Certain things that would help you are hereunder: - Drink lots of fluids (warm), avoid coffee - Take steam inhalation 3 times a day & do warm salt water gargles 3-4 times a day. - Keep some succulent lozenges (sugar free) in your bag, and use them as they would ease the irritation during lectures. If you dont feel better in the next 2 days or if there is fever, please consult a physician privately. Needless to mention, your blood sugar levels are on the higher side and a visit to your diabetologist is due. Take care!

Why Nose Bleeding Can Be Serious?

Why Nose Bleeding Can Be Serious?

Why nose bleeding can be serious?

A majority of people experience nosebleeds at least once in their lifetimes, whether from excessive picking of the nose or a pretty hard fall. Most nosebleeds go away soon but it can get very serious if you are not careful.

Nosebleeds can be broadly classified into two types:

1. Anterior nosebleeds, which happen from the front of the nose, are quite normal and get better quickly.

2. Posterior nosebleeds happen from deep within the nose and get very serious if proper care is not provided. However, such cases are rare and happen only in extreme trauma.

What to do when a nosebleed strikes?

- to stop the bleeding, tilt your head upwards and apply ice on the bridge of the nose. This helps in stopping the blood flow quickly. You can also stuff cotton in your nostrils while doing it.

- blow your nose in order to clear the clots in the nose as they can prolong bleeding.

When does a nosebleed get serious?

- when the measures to stop the bleeding don't work. You are at risk to lose blood if you don't get medical help.

- if you have regular nosebleeds then consult your doctor immediately as it could be a symptom of an underlying health condition.

- a nosebleed can also become serious if you are having medicines that thin blood as it could make the nosebleed more severe.

- if you suffer from a blood clotting disorder.

- if the nosebleed is a caused by a trauma like a fall or an accident and you are having difficulty in stopping the bleeding, get immediate medical help.

'consult'.
