Please follow the tips below to feel better: Wear anti-glare spectacles while using a computer. Practice the 20/20/20 exercise. Every 20 minutes, focus/look at an object that's at least 20 feet away, for 20 seconds. Blink often when you are watching TV or working on your computer. Decrease the brightness level of your computer’s/mobile phone’s screen .Don't decrease it so much that you have trouble seeing. Minimize watching television. Use UV protection sun glasses when out in the sun. You can also use artificial tear eye drops (E.g. Refresh) every 2- 3 hours to keep the eyes moist. Make sure you get at least 7 hours of sleep every night.

Hello doctor. My daughter is 7.5 months old. She is into teething. Can we give any calcium supplement at this stage. Kindly suggest?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Ghaziabad
It is a very common misconception (unfortunately even smong some doctors) that extra calvium is needed while teething. This is absolutely incorrect if you r giving your baby a healthy diet, including solids, her calcium intake wud b more than enough. As kajol says in tv ads, vit d is essential for absorption of the dietary calc. For this, expose her to sunlight early in the morning or late eve, ven it is not very hot outside.(make sure she wears short dresses, as skin must b exposed to the sunlight).

Night falls happen because your storage of semen is full. By way of night fall or you masterbate you empty space and new semen take its place. When you stop masterbating as space is occupied then night fall happens to create space for new semen to enter. It is normal phenomen. This does not cause any weakness. It is a myth that it does. Just remember your feet did not reduce in size as you are walking over them similarly it is the gland that is working andproducing this semen and its working is not under your control. It works on its own pace. So relax.

The nerves coming out of vertebral column from in between the inter vertebral spaces are getting pressed at lumbar and sacral level. Your inter vertebral disc may be rubbing with the out coming nerve root. Your weight 81 kg. Is quite high for your height of 169.5 cms. More the weight more the problem. Reduce your weight to bring it in the house of about 65 to 68 kg. Avoid forward bending of your back to avoid pinching of nerve roots in the discs. Do back bending exercises like raising your trunk while sleeping on your back so that a clear space is created between the mattress and your back. Sleep on hard flat bed and avoid coir sponge mattresses. Don't lift heavy weight as it may aggravate your problem in future.

deep kissing and blow job also can transmit HIV though to a lesser extent than peno-vaginal sex. Since the woman s statusis not known, better get tested for HIV and be in peace if negative. All the best

What is the symptoms of dengue fever, how can manage if it cannot attack to ours.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
What is the symptoms of dengue fever, how can manage if it cannot attack to ours.
Dengue fever is a disease caused by a family of viruses that are transmitted by mosquitoes. Symptoms include severe joint and muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, headache, fever, exhaustion, and rash. The presence of fever, rash, and headache (the "dengue triad") is characteristic of dengue fever.Because dengue fever is caused by a virus, there is no specific medicine or antibiotic to treat it. For typical dengue fever, the treatment is directed toward relief of the symptoms (symptomatic treatment). The acute phase of the illness with fever and muscle pain lasts about one to two weeks.

It depends on the timing in the cycle when you had it done. Also the fsh to lh ratio is important as a value greater than 3 is suggestive of pco. A value of 9.9 is high though. I would advise you to take the medicines your doctor advised and discuss pregnancy with him so that a few ofthe medicines can be changed.

I am 22 years, I have dust allergy since 13 years and have skin allergies too. How to recover from it?

I am 22 years, I have dust allergy since 13 years and have skin allergies too. How to recover from it?
Is your dust allergy is severe? dust allergies are caused by many substances like pollen, mites, wood etc. Many lifesyle changes can help: avoid using galichas\carpeting instead go for hardwood or vinyl\ tiles floors. Vacuum upholstered furniture such as sofas. Wood, leather, plaster, or metal furniture is better for dust allergies. Replace drapes with roll-up window shades. If you must have curtains, wash them in hot water each season. Get rid of stuffed animals, stuffed furnitures, soft toys, and other dust collectors. Once you get the allergy then it can be cured by use of certain medications which I may prescribe. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Vitamin D deficiency: Facts and Implications

Vitamin D deficiency prevails in epidemic proportions all over the Indian subcontinent, with a prevalence of at least 50%-70% in the general population.  So, many of us might be Vitamin D deficient without knowing it.

Why we need Vitamin D:

Our body needs Vitamin D to absorb calcium. Hence, Calcium supplements are generally given with Vitamin D (Vitamin D3, Cholecalciferol).
Vitamin D deficiency can cause bone problems (osteoporosis), heart disease, diabetes and even increase risk of cancer.
The recommended form of Vitamin D as a supplement is Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is much more effective than its other form, Vitamin D2 (Calciferol).

Sources of Vitamin D:

Adequate exposure to sunlight. Although it is difficult to go out in the scorching summer heat, do try to get some sun exposure daily.
Food: Milk fortified with Vitamin D, salmon, tofu, tuna, fish oils, egg yolks, mushrooms and fortified cereals.

Things to keep in mind:

You don’t need to tan or to burn your skin in order to get the Vitamin D you need.
People with dark skin pigmentation may need significantly more sunlight exposure than fair-skinned people to generate the same amount of Vitamin D.

Hi doctor, I am 33 years old, tall and slim. By look I am healthy, but for more than 12 years (as I could remember), I get affected by throat pain followed by cold and then fever which lasts for 4-8 days. And this repeats once in 2-3 months, rarely once in 6 months or once in a month also. I have consulted many doctors, its found I have sinus problem and nothing found beyond that. Please advice, based on your experience what might be the reason for this fever attack frequently, and what next steps to be taken by me.

Diploma in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (D.O.R.L), M.B.B.S
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Pune
Hi being tall & slim does not indicate that you are healthy. Try breathing exercises like pranayam, go for open air walks daily, improve your lifestyle. Besides that getting upper respiratory infections once in 2 to 3 months is not very dangerous unless you need to take antibiotics every time. If that is the case then you need a sinus ct scan ant treatment accordingly.
