My father has an asthma. What is the effect of using an asthma preventer for long term?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
My father has an asthma. What is the effect of using an asthma preventer for long term?
Some people with asthma are prescribed a preventer inhaler. They help prevent asthma symptoms by reducing swelling and inflammation in the airways. There are several kinds of preventers. They usually contain a low dose of steroid medicine called corticosteroids. Taking your preventer inhaler regularly, usually twice a day, means you're less likely to have asthma symptoms, or asthma attacks. You should use it even if you're feeling well because the protective effect builds up over time.

Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
If ct is confirming sinusitis I suggest to try intra nasal steroids for few months and if not responding then you can go for surgery but before trying any if above better start treatment for migraine. Because many times its the disease confused for sinus headache.

My 2 MONTHS OLD daughter has been coughing for 3 weeks. She's got mucus stuck in her throat. She only coughs when she gets choked on her saliva or when she tries to burp. I took her to the health centre first week she started coughing, had xray, it was all clear but they gave a medicine called Amoxylin, nothing worked. I am breastfeeding and also eating well. How can I get rid of this mucus stuck in her?

1.Continue breast feeding. 2.Elevate head of the baby by putting pillow under the mattress 3.Place a cool mist humidifier in baby’s room 4.Put 1 drop of saline nasal drops (pediatric) in baby'€™s nostril. 5.Use rubber bulb syringe to suck out the mucus from nose (wash syringe with soap and warm water.) for mediicine contact on private chat.

I am suffering from sinusitis. And headache. headache from from since 2-3 year. Can you suggest what should be don.

MS - ENT,MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Kolkata
I am suffering from sinusitis. And headache. headache from from since 2-3 year. Can you suggest what should be don.
Hi  If you are  having a sinus  problems for so long we have to rule out Allergic  Rhinitis and sinusitis.  Get a CT PNS done. Or if you have one  done share the CT. Long term lifestyle  changes with gradually tapering medication  helps to tackle chronic sinus problems.  Start taking Steam inhalation twice a day. *For chronic sinusitis you will need to take a long term course of antibiotics  together  with Nasal sprays. *You will need to avoid dusty environment  and dust mites, animal dander etc. Medical  management  is done for 3 months and then patients  condition is reviewed.  Intermittent treatment is not beneficial  in the long run. If headache due to sinusitis it will get better. Do a eye refraction to check eyesight. Hope this helps.
