Hello! I am suffering from l5-s1 herniated disc. I am taking medications specified in the medication section and also taking physiotherapy sessions. It's been nearly 2 months but the pain in my left leg is the same. I have no back pain now. But it's been 3 days that my leg has started getting numb. Numbness is spread all over the leg including thigh knee calf and foot. And pain is worse now a days. Physiotherapy isn't working well. What should I do? My physiotherapist said that there is a possibility of sciatic nerve damage (tissue damage) and pain may last life long. I don't want to go for surgery. Please suggest me some treatment. Thank you.

It must be due to poor healing in the frature sites or in the area where you had internal injury, if the healing doesn't happen completely then there is poor blood circulation and that the reason during exertion of activities the spine becomes rigid. Hot water fermentation will help and also MCR chappals can be used to feel relaxed and comfortable while walking as the boyd weight is distributed evenly. Lumbosacral belt is advised which will definitely improve the abdominal muscle tone and it will also reduce the back pain.

1. Go for fasting once a week. You can go for absolute fasting or rely on a liquid diet to digest ama (toxin). Fasting should be followed by hot fomentation or by taking a bath with lukewarm water or steam bath. 2. After fasting and fomentation, mix powdered long pepper, black pepper and dried ginger in equal quantities and take 1 teaspoon of this powdered mix with lukewarm water twice a day. This will help you restore your digestive fire. 3. Take one tablespoon of castor oil before going to bed, once or twice a week. It helps in cleansing ama (toxin) build up and balancing vata. 4. Mix equal quantities of powdered fenugreek seeds, turmeric and ginger powder. Take one teaspoon daily in the morning and evening. 5. For dry fomentation of the affected joints, take a cloth and fold it into four, fill it with hot and sand make a potli (bag) out of it. Use this bundle for the fomentation of different joints. This is very helpful in reducing pain and swelling.

Hi, all dislocations or fracture dislocations should to be put back in joint (reduced) and held in joint until healed. Sometimes the injury will pop back into joint and be stable enough to hold in a plaster cast. If so they need careful supervision with repeat x-rays for 2-3 weeks from injury to make sure they do not slip out again. If the joint is not that stable it will need to be held with 1-3 wires passed through the skin known as k wires. These usually protrude through the skin so they can easily be removed in the outpatient's clinic. Some surgeons will bury the wires under the skin. Only occasionally is open surgery required i. E. A formal cut is made on the back of the hand over the injury. The wires typically remain in place for 4-5 weeks. During this time the fracture and wires will need support in a plaster cast either a full cast or a partial cast. Any fingers or parts of fingers not held by the plaster should be moved to reduce stiffness. Most patients do very well following these injuries. After an immobilization period, rehabilitative exercises should be performed to regain strength and mobility and to minimize chronic pain and stiffness. Thanks.

These are possibly snapping sounds from tendons. You need to do more exercises. It needs to be investigated. Investigations advised - hb, tlc, dlc, esr, sugar f & pp, uric acid, vit d3 urine r/e anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days.
