Stage fright- Symptoms & Management

Stage fright- Symptoms & Management

Stage fright or performance anxiety is the anxiety, fear or persistent phobia which may be aroused in an individual by the requirement to perform in front of an audience, whether actually or potentially. In the context of public speaking, this may precede or accompany participation in any activity involving public self-presentation. In some cases stage fright may be a part of a larger pattern of social phobia (social anxiety disorder), but many people experience stage fright without any wider problems. Quite often, stage fright arises in a mere anticipation of a performance, often a long time ahead.

It has numerous manifestations: stuttering, tachycardia, tremor in the hands and legs, sweaty hands, facial nerve tics, dry mouth, and dizziness.

The common Performance Anxiety symptoms are:

  • Dreading the performance, worrying endlessly about it
  • Becoming numbed, distant and withdrawn
  • Trembling hands and voice
  • Sweating
  • Feeling sick or having stomach cramps
  • A racing pulse and pounding heart
  • Tightness in the throat which can hinder talking
  • A dry mouth

Try these 10 tips to reduce your stage fright :

  1. Shift the focus from yourself and your fear to your true purpose—contributing something of value to your audience.
  2. Stop scaring yourself with thoughts about what might go wrong. Instead, focus your attention on thoughts and images that are calming and reassuring.
  3. Refuse to think thoughts that create self-doubt and low confidence.
  4. Practice ways to calm and relax your mind and body, such as deep breathing, relaxation exercises, yoga, and meditation.
  5. Exercise, eat well, and practice other healthful lifestyle habits. Try to limit caffeine, sugar, and alcohol as much as possible.
  6. Visualize your success: Always focus on your strength and ability to handle challenging situations.
  7. Prepare your material in advance and read it aloud to hear your voice.
  8. Make connections with your audience: Smile and greet people, thinking of them as friends rather than enemies.
  9. Stand or sit in a self-assured, confident posture. Remain warm and open and make eye contact.
  10. Give up trying to be perfect and know that it is OK to make mistakes. Be natural, be yourself.

Women - 4 Signs To See A Gynaecologist

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology

Women - 4 Signs To See A Gynaecologist

Women do not normally visit a gynaecologist, until they are suffering from any problem. Visiting a gynaecologist at regular intervals is important for good health.

Following are the 4 common reasons to visit a gynaecologist:

  1. Itchy vagina - Vaginal itching is very commonly ignored as most women consider it to be embarrassing, and as something that does not require any attention. However vaginal itching may be an indication of something more serious. Usually vaginal itching is a sign of fungal infection or a symptom of a STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). In the worst-case scenario, it can even be a sign of vulvar cancer (a cancer of the vulva, which is the external part of your vagina).
  2. Painful sex - Most women feel that it is normal to feel a little bit of pain in your vagina during sex. However, the truth is that pain during sex is not at all normal. If you feel pain while indulging in sexual activity, there are chances of you suffering from either vaginal dryness or a mild infection, which if left untreated can become worse. Some of these infections can even be STDs such as herpes, gonorrhoea etc.
  3. Lump in your breast - A lump in the breast, whether or not accompanied by a bloody discharge from your nipples, is most likely a warning sign of cancer. You should also watch out for any type of pain in your breasts or even an abnormal growth as all of these indicate the development of cancerous cells in the breasts.
  4. Considerable bleeding during periods - If you bleed heavily during your periods, so much so that you have to change your sanitary napkin 2-3 times in just one to two hours, it's a cause of concern. If this heavy menstrual flow is also accompanied with shortness of breath and rapid heart rate, you may be suffering from anaemia. In extreme cases (which is very rare), this can lead to extreme blood loss, which may require a blood transfusion. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

She should take protein rich diet, milk supplements etc. She should walk slowly daily after food. See there is no sure shot approach for normal delivery. It depends upon the last time situation of the patient whether she will go for normal or caesarean.

Hi doctor, mine is a long story. I am 26 year old. When I was 17, I was diagonized with gemcell tumor and had taken 6 cycle of chemotherapy and surgically removed my left every. Once after the treatment my periods are regular. One day I got my period 7 days late first I thought I am pregnant and took HPT which showed negative consulted gynic. On further investigation we found that tube which is attached to my only right ovary is blocked due to the prior operation. And ivf is the only go. My Amh level is only 0.67. And we did the ivf on Jan 2016 cycle. My last period was on Jan 17 and my Dr. could relive 6 eggs on Jan 30 the, in which 2 are not matured, among remaining 4 only I got fertilized (they have done icsi) which is of 1-8cell gr b/c. And we had a 3 day transfer that was on Feb 02 2016. My doctor asked me to take susten 200mg (2 - 1 - 2) till Feb 16th, 16th is my blood test. But on Feb 14th that will be 12dpo 3dt (if I am not wrong), when I wiped I saw some very very small amount of brown color discharge. Which upsets me a lot since my actual period is due was on 13th Feb. I inserted 2 of susten 200mg, after inserting no spotting so far. Will susten delays already started period? I am too scared to take a HPT. If its negative it will be the end to my hopes. One more cycle of ivf we can't afford financially. So my last chance and hope.

Obesity and pco are linked and can cause irregular periods. I would advice you to do a urine pregnancy first to rule out pregnancy if you are in a relationship. If negative you need to consult a gynaecologist to get a few blood tests and a pelvic usg done.

Most parents-to-be worry about this, but if you have a normal pregnancy, you can keep doing it right up until your waters break. There are lots of psychological and physical benefits of sex so pregnancy is not a reason to stop. And you may find that being free from worries about conception and contraception, you feel sexier than ever. Some researchers even think that women who have regular sex during pregnancy may be less likely to give birth prematurely. Having orgasms may also be related to a lower chance of giving birth early. If you're feeling sexy and well enough, then it's a good thing to keep your sex life going throughout pregnancy. Having satisfying sex during this time is good for your relationship and your sense of wellbeing, both now and after your baby has arrived. Fear of hurting your baby can be one of the most common reasons to avoid sex during pregnancy. You won't hurt your baby by making love, even with your partner on top. The thick mucus plug that seals your cervix helps guard against infection. The amniotic sac and the strong muscles of your womb (uterus) also protect your baby. If you orgasm, you may notice your baby moves around more. However, this is because of your pounding heart, not because he knows what's happening or feels discomfort. Your midwife or GP may advise you not to have sex if you have experienced: bleeding abdominal pains or cramps broken waters a history of cervical weakness a low-lying placenta (placenta praevia), particularly if you have had some bleeding.
