The Proper Way to Brush Your Teeth !

The Proper Way to Brush Your Teeth !

Blog by Dr Ratnika Agarwal at Smile Up Dental Care & Implant Center ,Pune .We provide Dental & Cosmetic Treatments for all age groups.

Many of us were taught how to properly brush our teeth when we were still young kids.

And, admit it or not, most of us are stuck with the same brushing method into adulthood.

Sadly, many of us also learned the improper way of brushing.

Indeed, even though we are taught the proper brushing technique, we may not often stick to it.

Did you know that brushing properly is tricky? We wish to get rid of plaque without damaging our gums and brushing too hard.

So, what are the correct ways to brush our teeth by Dr Ratnika Agarwal ?

  • Brush lightly.

The teeth and gums must be brushed gently as hard brushing may cause the gums to recede and get damaged. It is advised to hold the toothbrush the same manner you hold a pen. By doing so, a lighter stroke is encouraged.

  • Brush your teeth at least two times per day.

Brush in the morning and at night before you head to bed. In so doing, food particles are removed. Brushing in the morning will aid clear away the plaque that accumulated overnight. It is important to dry before you sleep because this is the period when the mouth becomes dry and it becomes easier for bacteria to attack the teeth.

  • Use an extra-soft or soft-bristled toothbrush.

By means of using these types of toothbrush, the teeth and gums won’t be harmed and abraded. It matters to change your toothbrush when necessary or on a regular basis. Shredded or worn out toothbrush are no longer effective in cleaning the teeth. Be smart in choosing a toothbrush and only purchase the one that is officially approved by the American Dental Association.

  • Brush your teeth for at least two minutes.

Two minutes is actually the required time to clean the teeth. This way, each tooth is thoroughly cleaned. You may consider using a timer if you are using a manual toothbrush.

  • Do not brush your teeth more than 3 times per day.

Brushing twice daily is already enough. Take note that brushing too frequently can damage or erode the teeth and gums.

  • Electric toothbrushes are good alternative to manual toothbrushes.

These are often recommended to people who do not often follow correct brushing techniques. In the same way, these are great options for individuals with physical limitations and find brushing a tough activity.

  • Have a standard routine for brushing

It is fundamental to brush the teeth in the same order on a daily basis. The reason behind this is that this can especially aid you cover each area of the mouth. This will easily become second nature once you’re able to perform it routinely.

For instance, you may brush the outer sides of the teeth from left to right across the top, afterwards, you may shift to the inside and then brush from right to left. After this, consider brushing the chewing surfaces from left to right. Do the same pattern for the teeth underneath.

As you can see, there are proper ways of brushing. So, do not just brush your teeth for the sake of brushing alone. Learn the proper techniques to keep the gums and teeth clean and in good condition.

What You Must Know Before You Get ROOT CANAL Treatment

What you must know before you get root canal treatment

Root canal treatment also known as endodontics is performed to treat and heal an infected or badly damaged tooth rather than removing it. When your teeth start decaying, you do not feel any pain for a very long time. However, gradually the darkening of your tooth color may become prominent which could mean that the tooth nerve is dying or has died. That's the time you will need root canal treatment which involves cleaning of the canals inside the roots of your tooth.

Why you may need the root canal treatment

Teeth consist of a soft core known as dental pulp. This pulp goes beyond the crown and the noticeable part of your tooth to the root tip inside your jawbone. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. So when your tooth is damaged or has a severe cavity, bacteria can easily make their way through the pulp. Symptoms and signs of a sore tooth include a hole in your tooth, a swelling around the regions of your face and neck, gum swelling, tooth pain or a toothache and temperature sensitivity. If it is left untreated, the decaying material and bacteria can cause a tooth abscess or severe infection, resulting in a bone loss, pulp death and even loss of the tooth itself. The root canal treatment is the best way to save the damaged teeth and escaping the painful process of extraction.

What does the treatment involve?

The purpose of the treatment is to free your root canal from every possible infection. The root is then cleaned and filled to avoid any further infection.

Root canal treatment is a skilled procedure which is time-consuming and usually requires from 2-3 visits to your dentist.

In the initial stage, the infected pulp is isolated to drain out abscesses (if any), followed by the cleaning of your root canal which is then prepared for a temporary filling.

Your tooth is then left to settle down.

In the next visit, your tooth is checked to see whether it’s free from all forms of infection so that it can be permanently filled.

'consult'.

I have inflammation in my mouth. Now my teeth have become super sensitive and inflammation is not going sing two weeks.

I have inflammation in my mouth. Now my teeth have become super sensitive and inflammation is not going sing two weeks.
inflammation can be due to caries also, Possible causes for sensitivity include: Tooth decay (cavities) Fractured teeth Worn fillings Gum disease Worn tooth enamel Exposed tooth root In healthy teeth, a layer of enamel protects the crowns of your teeth—the part above the gum line. Under the gum line a layer called cementum protects the tooth root. Underneath both the enamel and the cementum is dentin. Dentin is less dense than enamel and cementum and contains microscopic tubules (small hollow tubes or canals). When dentin loses its protective covering of enamel or cementum these tubules allow heat and cold or acidic or sticky foods to reach the nerves and cells inside the tooth. Dentin may also be exposed when gums recede. The result can be hypersensitivity. Sensitive teeth can be treated. The type of treatment will depend on what is causing the sensitivity. Your dentist may suggest one of a variety of treatments

Permanent molars come in around age 6. Thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth can prevent decay in the pits and fissures. sealants can significantly reduce caries. these days mothers come & get sealants on their kids teeth to protect them. sealent is just like lamination to protect your teeth . get it done now .

Hi my friend has undergone an a bsso surgery age 21 female. Which went wrong. What should she do now. Should she wait some years or take resurgery now.

MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS

What exactly went wrong with the surgery? What needs to be done depends upon what went wrong. In any case, discuss your concerns with your surgeon and get their opinion on appropriate next steps. You may then get a second opinion from another oral & maxillofacial surgeon if you are not entirely convinced with the options so presented.

I'm having pulpitides on my two wisdom teeth. Now I'm taking antibiotics for three days. And I'm going to get my teeth removed 3 days later. The problem is that my heart rates keep accelerated, and I have some headaches too. Looks like my infections are not 100% under control. Q1, Can I still go for teeth extraction 3 days later? Or can I still wait for 3 days? Q2, What should I do to minimize any complication during and after the surgery? Thanks a billion.

Diclofenac is a prescribed for pain, along with this you may require antibiotic also some times, if dentist has said it is healing, as a home remedy you can rinse with a warm salt water 3-4 times daily, if pain comes down then it's fine ,if pain worsens then antibiotic is necessary.

dry mouth is a side-effect of Starpress xl which is metoprolol and it is not going to harm you. But it is a very good medicine for your heart, so should continue your medicine, if it bothers you too much you can ask your doctor to change the XL version to a simple version. So nothing to panic or worry.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user, gap between front teeth can affect the aesthetics of smile as well as the face and therefore I can understand your concern. My advise to you would be to visit an Orthodontist (braces specialist) who will be able to suggest you the best possible treatment. Nowadays there are various new kind of treatment modalities which can make the treatment process invisible to others, for eg. Lingual braces, clear aligners etc. I am sure your orthodontist will guide you in choosing the most suitable appliance. All the best.

If irregular teeth are treated without braces between the age group of 8 to 13 years, the chances of relapse after braces is less. This can be treated only by a Child Dental Specialist - Pediatric Dentist. Generally, Braces should be used once the growth of jaws is over, which is generally after 12 to 13 years of age.

First get cleaning and polishing of the teeth. If still you feel that they are yellow, you can do teeth whitening / bleaching. It is safe. Now a days even home kits are available. But please do any whitening procedure under dentist supervision. A drawback of this procedure may however be an increase in sensitivity of the teeth.

Mouth ulcer can be due to iron and folic acid deficiency, upset stomach, excessive stress. You need to take a balanced diet. Avoid junk food and remain calm and stress free. You can even start a multi vitamin tablet to over come the deficiency.
