Hi first thing is to control blood sugar effectively, which means maintain fasting around 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c%<7. If that is achieved, then maintaining a healthy but restricted diet plus exercise will additionally benefit. A diet plan has to be very individual specific, that needs all details as mentioned above plus present diet, extent of daily exercise. In the mean time you should follow: 1) avoid sweets completely, 2) no direct sugar or jaggery, 3) avoid deep fried foods, junk foods, bakery items, pastries, 4) no sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products and honey. 5) consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits about 100 g a day. 6) use always whole grain products and whole grain flour, no maida at all. Exercise daily for at least 1 hour, brisk walking is ideal. Plus no alcohol and smoking. If you follow the above modified lifestyle, controlling blood sugar becomes comparatively easier. Hi Team, I have twin baby girls, they are 13 months old now and one baby is 9.5 kgs weight and the other is 10.3 kgs. Is it a correct weight growth for them I am worried. I would like to ask if we can give them Threptin biscuits for better weight growth or do I need to prefer any other for them. Do suggest me with food items for them for gaining weight and for brain development.

Hi here are 6 ways to gain weight healthily: 1. Eating 5 to 6 meals a day in order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day. The aim should be to have a generously portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two to three snacks in between. 2. Start weight training if you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism. When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days. 3. Load up on protein besides weight training, a protein-rich diet can help you gain mass. Eating a meal heavy in protein shortly after finishing exercise can be highly effective in adding extra pounds to your body. However, a diet focused only on lean protein is not helpful. It is important to make sure that your diet has plenty of fat in it. Eat foods rich in protein like cheese, meat, eggs, etc to gain weight in a healthy manner. 4. Workout your entire body a lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look. 5. Drink your calories to reach the calorie requirement only by eating may be tough. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be an effective way to load up on the calorie requirements. 6. Be patient and believe in yourself gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains. Caution: junk food and fried foods must be avoided; although have a tendency to add more fat to your body but are very low in vitamins and minerals which are essentially required to keep you really fit. We would need more information like since when, depressed about what, what are your symptoms etc to help you. Yet it will be good if you see a counsellor and psychiatrist in your city. However, in depression, it is suggested that you look at the positive side of things, find meaning in whatever you consider as a loss to you, exercise a lot, take a walk in the sun, have friends and a social life who are funny, cheerful and progressive, eat healthy food, sleep on time and get up on time, have a daily plan of activities and make sure that you achieve most of it. Negative thinking needs to be challenged with counter thoughts that bring in contradicting evidence. Take support of your family or friends to come out of depression as its difficult to remain self motivated. Yoga, meditation, ayurveda, homeopathy also help a lot in depression without any side effects.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Drinking milk is beneficial for the body as it has proteins, sugars (carbs), calcium which are essential for the body & healthy bone growth - preferably one should have low fat milk which contains 1-2% fat compared to full fat milk (4-6%), higher saturated fat is harmful for the body as it increases the bad cholesterol (LDL) level in the blood which can contribute to fat deposition in the blood vessels, also it can lead to increase in body weight.
