For your baby breast feeding is the best way to thrive. Learn techniques to feed your child regularly if you are a house wife. If working then cow's milk is the best provided you get it pure. Every time you have have to give freshly used preboiled milk after removing the cream. Don't use leftover milk again, if giving by bottle preboil it. Feed at the room temperature or lukewarm.

it might be the breast milk amount is less or the nipples retracted / not well formed. Consult and show your obstetrician. Take lactohil pwder twice daily with milk. Retracted nipples can be massaged and pulled out with vitamin E oil gradually

Why vaccination of baby is confusing? Which Standard should we follow as Government Schedule and Private Schedule are different.

Why vaccination of baby is confusing? Which Standard should we follow as Government Schedule and Private Schedule are...
Hello lybrate user, best schedule to follow is the schedule mentioned by the indian academy of pediatrics which includes all the vaccines that are important for your baby. The govt schedule is the basic immunization model and consists of all the mandatory vaccines but certain optional vaccines due to affordability issues have not been included. So iap includes all the vaccines mandatory as well as optional. So if affordability is not an issue you could go for the iap schedule which all private practitioners follow.

I have a problem of bedwetting. I am suffering from my childhood so please help me to cure this problem as it is not good for me.

MBBS MD DCH, Dch

I have a problem of bedwetting. I am suffering from my childhood so please help me to cure this problem as it is not ...
Well bedwetting also known as nocturnal enuresis is not uncommon in childhood due to immaturity of full urinary bladder which fails to send signal to brain to awaken the child. Most cases have genetic predisposition (familial tendency). Invariably the condition remits once the child grows up. It is uncommon to persist in adolescent age group. What to do then? it is first desirable to rule out any structural or functional anamoly of urinary tract. Once ruled out then following measures help a lot. 1 toilet training: to hold urine during day time to strengthen/enhance bladder capacity 2 to void urine 2 hours prior to sleep 3 no water/liquid intake within 2 hours of sleep. 4 role of drugs like imipramine is limited. There is relapse once medicine is stopped 5 wet bed alarm bell has been found to be very effective as with single drop of urine passed during sleep shall alarm the bell and person shall go the toilet for completion voiding 6 I have found with mentat syrup very encouraging results. 7 the family support is required! 8 there is nothing to be disappointed. You shall overcome this problem slowly but surely

Donot give any liquids before sleep, ask him to urinate first, not the time if possible and repeat. You can use bed wetting alarms also to train him.

Viral Fever in New Born Babies

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Viral Fever in New Born Babies

What is viral fever?

Viral fever refers to an acute infection caused by the action of viruses. Flu or influenza is the most common form of viral fever. Since viral fever is contagious, when an infected person sneezes or coughs the virus spreads and comes in contact with other people. Children can remain contagious for about 10 days if they get the early symptoms of viral fever. Children who are younger than two years are at an increased risk of developing complications pertaining to viral fever. Controlling the symptoms of cold, fever and cough can cure viral fever.

Symptoms of viral fever

Fever and chills are the early signs of viral fever. Children suffering from viral fever will feel pain throughout their body. Other common signs and symptoms involving viral fever include cough, cold, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, and stomach ache.

Certain preventive measures against viral fever

  • Keeping your child away from anyone who is sick is advisable. To prevent the germs from spreading ask everyone to use tissues while they sneeze or cough. Make sure that your family member maintains good hygiene habits if he/she is suffering from diarrhea or is vomiting.
  • To prevent coming in contact with germs wash your and your child's hands properly
  • Seasonal changes are the thriving phase for viruses so take precautionary measures during those periods of the year

Tips for quicker recovery of your child

1. Offer enough drinks - A child gets dehydrated through fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Oral Rehydration Salts can be given to little ones as it contains all the essential nutrients. This can be given to a baby even if he/she is just in breastfeeding stage.

2. Feed them special food - Soft and semi-liquid foods can be given to your child if he/she older than 6 months. Foods like dals, soups, and curd with sugar are advisable for your child. As he/she gradually gets stronger thicker foods like mashed vegetable can be added to his/her diet.

3. Ensure that your child gets adequate rest - Since viral fever is contagious it is advisable to let your child sleep in a separate room. Since the fever causes fatigue adequate rest is required for recovery. This will also prevent him/her from getting the other family members infected.

4. Sponge your child's body - Sponging your child's body with lukewarm water can control high fever.

5. Maintain proper hygiene - It is essential to wash your hands before and after touching your child to prevent the infection from spreading to the other family members.

'Consult'.

Dear Sir/Mam, My 4.5 years son and 1.5 years son got cold (sticky running nose) since 5 days. The elder one developed mild cough from yesterday. Both of them don't have any other issues and no fever as well. I was using syp of Cetrizine Hydrochloride and Ambroxol Hydrochloride (3 ml for elder son) from Day 2. But no change in symptoms. So I took them to Pediatrician on Day 4. Dr. Suggested him Syp. levocetirizine dihydrochloride (3.5 ml) and steam for elder son. Should I start this new syrup? Or any better treatment? Kindly suggest.

This syp is pretty much the same as you have been given earlier. These are viral infection which usually settle in their own. However antibiotics are needed if secondary infection develops as evidenced by fever and toxicity. Continue with mild remedies. If the cough does settle within a few days, see a doc.

I suggest you follow the below for your condition: Take Mag Phos 6x - thrice daily for next 2 weeks and update. Also do x-ray of the affected area. Heat and Ice Packs. Heat and/or cold therapy helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation. Often patients use ice, but some prefer heat. Both may be used alternately. For abdominal discomfort take Nux vom 30 - 4 pills twice daily for next 7 days. Give me a feedback thereafter.

Hello thanks for the query the weight and head circumference is appropriate for the age. Weight of a baby usually get doubled by 5 months of age. The head circumference of a newborn baby is usually 33-34 cm and there is about 2 cm increase in head circumference during initial 3 months. Thereafter there is increment of about 1 cm per month. So the head circumference of your baby is also within normal limit. Semisolid feed should be started at 6 months of age. If you have any more query please let me know. Regards.

Hi my son age is 2.8, in the mid night he wants soaked rusk in milk, I don't know how to avoid that please give some suggestion to avoid his habit,

Hi my son age is 2.8, in the mid night he wants soaked rusk in milk, I don't know how to avoid that please give some ...
From my side I will suggest you that feed your something at 2 hours intervals. In mid night he is asking for this, means his digestion is either faster, or his activity is more, so he needs more of nutrients, which his body is demanding. Soaked Rusk is full of carbohydrates, so you can give him more of chapatis, or rice during meals itself. So it will be sufficient nutrition for him. From your query, I can suggest you this. If still it not cleared, please let me know. Take care. :)

It is very possible that the sores are due to too much face to face contact. The child can also get common cold and cough due to this. You can gently and respectfully ask your elders not to do it often, telling that the doctor has asked you avoid it.

Nebulizing at 14 years of age is not a right idea, he needs to be evaluated for his severity, by local pediatrician, rotacaps / inhalers may be advised, allergens need to be avoided
