My partner a 36 years female discharges much more water during inter course, is it good or bad?

My partner a 36 years female discharges much more water during inter course, is it good or bad?
Dear user. Please understand, semen is a liquid base which contains sperm cells. when you ejaculate inside the vagina, the sperm cells are alive and they climb through the vaginal wall towards uterus and one will find the female egg for insemination. Left over seminal liquid and other immobile sperm cells flow out of vagina because they do not have any functions inside vagina further. this is normal procedure and there is nothing to worry about this. Take care.

Dear Ms. lybrate-user, Usually in India, a lady attains menopause around 50 - 55 years of age. So if a lady is having menses at age of 62, she needs to be investigated. There is a high likelihood of cancer. She needs to show a Gynaec immediately and get at least an examination and usg done. Further investigation and management can be planned accordingly.

If the flow of blood during menses is good then need not worry. Do slow and deep breathing relaxation exercises in the morning, take balanced diet and don't skip your meals and avoid non veg and eggs.

Benefits Of Lahsun

Benefits Of Lahsun

Garlic has long been known as the health booster extraordinaire. But why? the answer lies in the compounds it packs in. Garlic contains several vital nutrients including vitamins, amino acids, and enzymes. It gets its characteristic sulphur smell from the amino acid allicin, and this is responsible for most of its health benefits. Read on to learn more about the health benefits of garlic.

An excellent anti-oxidant: Research shows conclusively that eating garlic boosts your natural supply of hydrogen sulfide. This gas acts as an antioxidant and helps relax blood vessels and increase blood flow through them, thus promoting cardiovascular health. Higher hydrogen sulphide levels also protect the heart, thereby preventing damage to heart muscle.

Lowers cholesterol levels: Studies have proved that garlic reduces cholesterol levels, especially ldl and triglycerides by almost 9 to 12 percent. Rich in antibacterial and anti-fungal properties: garlic is a natural antibiotic and can eliminate harmful bacteria while preserving good bacteria. Its allicin content is responsible for its anti-fungal properties.

Blood thinner: Garlic thins the blood and is an excellent bulwark against heart disease, blood clots, heart attacks and stroke.

Immune booster: Garlic has strong antiviral properties too. It’s very effective against colds. You can reduce the length and frequency of colds by consuming garlic.

Lowers atherosclerosis risk: As garlic acts as a blood thinner, it prevents blood clots and destroys plaque, which contribute to the development of atherosclerosis.

Lowers blood pressure: Garlic is used as a remedy for hypertension all over the world, especially in china and japan. Lowers risk of cancer: certain cancers can be prevented by eating raw garlic. These include cancers of the stomach, colon, oesophagus, pancreas, and breasts.

Now let’s look at the downsides of garlic consumption.

A few people may be allergic to garlic. They should never eat garlic raw. And, if they get a skin outbreak, high temperature or headache, they should stop consuming garlic. Eating up to 10 cloves a day is ok, but more than this can have unsavory results like indigestion and garlic-breath. Indians are great garlic users, but we make amistake while cooking with garlic. We cook garlic immediately after crushing or chopping it. But, to maximize the health benefits, you should crush the garlic and use it to cook your curries only after letting it to sit for about 15 minutes. This triggers an enzyme reaction in the crushed garlic cloves that boosts healthy compounds in it. Also consume raw garlic first thing in the morning without chewing to reap its awesome health benefits. If you are scared of garlic breath, you canconsume garlic pills, but the resultant data on these supplements has been mixed. There is no clear indication that the active ingredients in garlic responsible for giving it its health punch, remain active in a pill form too.

Gestational Hypothyroidism

Gestational Hypothyroidism

During pregnancy, it is not uncommon for women to contract thyroid diseases like gestational hyperthyroidism and gestational hypothyroidism. The main problem, however, is that the symptoms of gestational hypothyroidism are very much similar to those, which can be observed during a normal pregnancy. The difficulty in differentiating between the two is the sole reason why many pregnant women are caught unawares, eventually resulting in further complications after the first trimester.

If gestational thyroid diseases are left untreated, you and your baby may experience a ton of problems such as preeclampsia, low birth weight, miscarriage and premature birth amongst others. Needless to say, if you already have a history of pre-existing hypothyroidism, then you will most certainly need more medical attention than is required.

Symptoms:
Symptoms of gestational hypothyroidism, like high fatigue and excessive weight gain, are hardly distinguishable from those associated with a normal pregnancy. Other symptoms can also include:

  1. Severe constipation
  2. Goiter
  3. Muscle cramps
  4. Trouble sleeping
  5. Hair loss
  6. Dry skin
  7. Difficulty in concentration
  8. Memory problems
  9.  Anxiety
  10. Intolerance to cold temperatures

Causes:
There may be a variety of causes that are responsible for the development of gestational hypothyroidism but the most common cause is usually an autoimmune disease known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which stimulates the body's immune system to attack thyroid gland cells, leading to a deficiency in the number of active thyroid cells and enzymes, and ultimately resulting in a shortage of the thyroid hormone.

Treatment:
Treatment for gestational hypothyroidism is normally uncomplicated, and follows just two simple steps:

  1. Proper diagnosis, via the use of a synthetic hormone called levothyroxine, which is very much similar to the hormone T4 produced by the thyroid.
  2. Continuous monitoring of thyroid function tests held every four to six weeks during pregnancy.

Acoustic Trauma, Preserve Your Hearing!

MS - General Surgery, MBBS
General Surgeon,
Acoustic Trauma, Preserve Your Hearing!
Acoustic Trauma, Preserve Your Hearing! Here is a riddle for you. What is Painless, Progressive, Permanent but Preventable? The answer is ..... Noise Induced Hearing Loss! When we are exposed to loud sounds, it takes a toll on our ears resulting in permanent, irreversible hearing loss. With technology enhanced devices and events the level of sound generated through earphones, personal listening devices (PLDs) is of growing concern as it unknowingly damages hearing. It is ironic: the very thing that drives us to get an iPod – music – could prevent our ability to enjoy it! It is important to remember: Noise Induced Hearing Loss is Preventable! The following tips may help save your hearing.

Ø Do not Listen So Loud – Use the “60-60 Rule:” Limit listening level to 60 % of the maximum volume for 60 minutes a day. Anything louder than that over an extended period is risky.

Ø Use Volume Control – Limit the volume to 80 percent of maximum and listen no longer than 90 minutes a day.

Ø Limit Your Listening – The length of time you listen, not just the volume, can contribute to hearing loss. Avoid prolonged, continuous listening.

Ø Limit Noisy Activities - At home, turn down the volume on the TV, radio, and stereo. Reduce the number of noisy appliances running at the same time.

Ø Protect your Ears - Wear earplugs or muffs when exposed to loud Noise. Avoid medications that can be dangerous (ototoxic) to your ears. Ask your physician about possible effects on your hearing.

My daughter is 19 years old and is suffering from PCOD. She has been on tablet Deviry 10 mg since 1.5 years. Without medication she does not get her periods. Is it ok to continue with medication like this for a long duration? Does it have adverse effects? Should we go in for some other treatment route?

Deviry is not the treatment for your daughter with PCOD. She needs to consult a gynaecologist who will examine her, get a few blood tests and an ultrasound done and then start with the treatment. If she is overweight then the first step is to lose weight with exercise and diet control. PCOD is a result of hormonal imbalance and it needs to be corrected. The treatment is long but the problem can be treated.
