Eager to get back into shape after having a baby and lose pregnancy pouch ?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik

After a pregnancy of long nine months and tough delivery, your body needs time to recover. Your doctor won't suggest you until your six-week postpartum checkups are done. Give yourself some time before you start watching you're actively trying to slim down. These activities will include - a healthy diet, breastfeed, working out with your baby, meditation and cardio. For long term success and to keep you feel good along the way; we are running down a series of articles to help you lose and stay slim! let's start with eating smart!

Eat smart to lose weight after pregnancy

Since your body needs abundant rest and nutrition to recover from delivery and labor, to fend off infection and to feed your baby, you shouldn't start dieting until you are permitted by your doctor. Make sure you're still consuming enough calories if you are breastfeeding otherwise your body will stop producing milk. Even if you're not nursing, crash dieting can slow down your metabolism, making it tough to lose pounds in the long run.

Regardless of a particular diet plan, follow below tips for weight loss postpartum:

Check your portions and have a balanced diet. Take small meals and only when you are hungry. You need to have a balanced diet fulfilling all your daily nutrient requirements. Your diet must comprise an adequate amount of carbohydrates, proteins, the necessary fatty acids, and fibers. The meal should include seasonal fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy foodstuffs, fish, lean meat and omega acids. Whole grains, cereals, and nuts are full of proteins and good fats. Consider, you need to eat healthy, but not much. The food you eat will provide nutrition to your child through breastfeeding.

Nutritive snacks. No junk and fast food. Have some fruits, a fruit drink, oat cookies, nuts or soaked grams for munching.

Boost up your water intake. Ten to twelve glasses of water per day will help you to cut down on weight effectively. Further, add lemon or squeeze in the seasonal fruit juice. Avoid adding salt as salt leads to water retention in the body.

Avoid packed 'non-fat' or 'low-fat' food. These packaged items are loaded with high calories.

Do not start dieting strictly. If you can exercise with a healthy diet, it will further help you weight loss.

Medimetry brings you this special series of blogs specifically written for new moms who are keen to lose weight. Watch this space for expert views on:

Doctor my weight is 39.5 kg and I am 3 months pregnant, I never feel hungry what should I do?
I am hoping your thyroid function tests, blood sugar and haemoglobin levels are normal. Please take multivitamin supplements like pregnacare once a day and health drinks like complan or mother horlicks to see if it helps. Also have iron and calcium supplementation as it is good for you and the baby.

How Homeopathy Can Help You With Mood Disorders?

How Homeopathy Can Help You With Mood Disorders?

Mood disorders are characterized by emotional disturbance in the patient and are of different kinds. This further leads to disruption in physical, social and thought processes in an individual. The two major mood disorders are mania and depression. In case of mania, the patient develops intense, unrealistic feelings, and in depression the patient becomes extremely sad and feels dejected. In some cases, a person may experience both mania and depression, while in other cases, a person only goes through depression. Mood disorders are classified into two major categories:

  1. Unipolar, where a patient experiences only depression.
  2. Bipolar, where a patient experiences mania and depression at the same time.

Homeopathic medicines are extensively used for treating mood disorders. Homeopathy works effectively on mood disorders and gives satisfactory results. There are several homeopathic medicines for mood disorders, which are prescribed on the basis of the causes of a certain mood disorder. Here is a list of common homeopathic remedies for mood disorders and when they are used:

  1. Anacardium: It is a homeopathic medicine used in curing mood disorders where the patient talks foolish and imagines foolish, baseless things. The patient turns irritable and quarrelsome as he loses self-confidence. Stupidity and childishness are indicated. The patient laughs on serious matters and feels like having a dual personality.
  2. Belladonna: Belladonna is used to treat mood disorders, which fall under the category of mania. The patient’s will power gets deranged, develops extra sexual excitement, and talks without sense. The patient becomes wild and offends others without any reason. He feels like touching every person and objects around and uses offensive language.
  3. Stramonium: This medicine is used in mood disorders where a patient develops weird ideas, talks with imaginary friends, becomes unclean and unhygienic and experiences fear. He looks frightened and in horror. The patient desires company.
  4. Arsenic album: Arsenic album is used for the cure of mood disorders where a patient develops a tendency of self mutilation. He feels worthless and is in despair. The memory gets weak, and any slight dispute makes the patient furious; he feels a rush of blood to the head. He fears death and fears of getting deserted by others. Acute melancholia is indicated.
  5. Hyoscyamus: This is another homeopathic medicine, which treats mood disorders. Hyoscyamus is used when a patient becomes idiotic and silly. The patient becomes lewd and lascivious. Lews gestures are likely among patients with this disorder. The patient becomes a nymphomaniac. This mood disorder arises from jealousy, fights and failed love relationships.

Homeopathy treats mood disorders effectively and most naturally. For each kind of mood disorder, there is a homeopathic remedy. When taken correctly, successful results are attained. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a homeopath.

20 ml sperm count is ok. For irregular periods, first she has to regularize periods and thus normalize hormones and then start treatment for infertility. Good luck,

Hello M k/c/o Pcod. Having age 33 trying 4 Issue. Wt60 Ht5: 4.C/oMean vaginal Secretions Itching n Swelling of Vagina...
Pregnancy is possible only on one day of cycle, day of ovulation when ovum is released from ovary of woman. That is why couple normally should have 12 to 24 cycles of unprotected sex around time of ovulation before going to Gynecologist or infertility specialist for further evaluation and advise, but in PCOD ovulation is affected so chances of pregnancy decrease so should go to Gynecologist or infertility specialist earlier and have long term treatment with patience. Reducing weight helps. Only if you decide to reduce weight using meal replacement therapy then you can contact me. For rest of treatment local Gynecologist is better as you have to meet often and for long time.

I am 21 and I have PCOD for which I have been taking medicines for a year now. I had started getting a regular period cycle but I recently had a protected intercourse 2 weeks before my period date and then I missed my period. It is delayed for 6 days now. What could be the reason?

PCOD is a disease where there is hormonal imbalance. Depending on your complaints, examination, reports and stage of life treatment differs and it also needs more time so get yourself treated with patience. Meet Gynecologist in whom you have trust as you will need to go for long time to him/her. Overweight is very common so in case you have that reduction of weight helps tremendously. PCOD may be cause and to be on safe side may get urine pregnancy test done.

How to find out about your wife that she has not done sex before? Or how can I find out if she is virgin or not?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Marriage is about faith and trust. And before marriage you can directly speak with her about regarding your thoughts and if you feel that she is telling lies than prove it before marriage and take your decision before marriage itself.
