Hello, my wife is TB patient & he take a Two time DOTS . She fully curies for DOTS but he cough he has no go, cough is regularly for prev. 3 three year now this morning time he has very hard cough. Please advise me.

FCCP (USA), MD - Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonologist, Indore
Thanks for your query. In your case first thing to rule out is the possibility of relapse of the TB. so get sputum test done. If it is negative then follow up chest xray will suggest any underlying abnormality. TB may cause its own sequelae in like bronchiectasis. Any yellowish sputum warrants antibiotic treatment or else inhaled brinchodilator will help.

Your problem is weak immunity due to weak body resistance and moreover frequent intake of antibiotics further supresses immune system----myself is a homoeopath and I will suggest you some very effective homoeopathic medicines which will not only help you build up your immunity but will also prove wonders in acute phase-----------consult me with full details of your problem--------------

Most of cough suppressent and antibiotics in cough and cold is not desirable due to untoward side effects remember largest number if cases of cough and cold with without fever are viral and thus subside in less than a week at most you can try home made remedy like karha honey garlic. However if cough and fever is persistent beyond 7 days please consult your doctor. 3 phials of tixylix and antibiotics is not at all justified.

I seem to be having sinus wherein one of my nostrils is blocked (partially) for most of the time, although I don't seem much bothered by it since it has been around 9 yrs now. Anything that can be done to cure this? thanks

do you have pain on cheek bones on pressing it? hot fomentation is really helpful in sinus besides drink fluids, such as water or juice. This will help dilute mucous secretions and promote drainage. Avoid beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol, as they can be dehydrating. Drinking alcohol can also worsen the swelling of the lining of the sinuses and nose. Moisturize your sinus cavities. Drape a towel over your head as you breathe in the vapor from a bowl of medium-hot water. Keep the vapor directed toward your face. Or take a hot shower, breathing in the warm, moist air. This will help ease pain and help mucus drain. Apply warm compresses to your face. Place warm, damp towels around your nose, cheeks and eyes to ease facial pain. Rinse out your nasal passages. Use a specially designed squeeze bottle (sinus rinse, others), saline canister or neti pot to rinse your nasal passages. This home remedy, called nasal lavage, can help clear your sinuses. If you make your own rinse, use water that's contaminant-free distilled, sterile, previously boiled and cooled, or filtered using a filter with an absolute pore size of 1 micron or smaller to make up the irrigation solution. Also be sure to rinse the irrigation device after each use with contaminant-free water, and leave open to air-dry. Sleep with your head elevated. This will help your sinuses drain, reducing congestion. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.
