Hi, My question is to a Dentist. I have an upcoming third molar in horizontal direction at lower jaw. So it has to be extracted. My question is if the tooth is extracted at lower jaw then is it necessary to remove it's partner tooth at upper jaw? Thanks in advance.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management (P.G.D.H.M)
Dentist, Mumbai
Hi lybrate-user, As a general rule we do recommend to get both upper and lower extracted in a single go. If the lower tooth has to be removed, the upper one, starts to come down and impinges on the gums, as there is no resisting force to stop that movement. Every tooth in our mouth is in its position because it has an opposing tooth. But this process of the upper tooth coming down takes months to happen, so you may choose to just do one tooth removal at a time and leave the upper one when it troubles you.

I have bad breath problem. I brush 2 times a but nothing happens how can I get rid of it.

•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person.

If you are constantly engaged in sports related activities, always wear a mouthguard to protect your mouth and orthodontic appliances while the treatment is going on.

Hello. I am suffering from bad breath and pull back of gum bone. I took curatauge treatment from dentist but to no avail. I am continuously facing bone loss due to plaque. There are huge cavities forming in between my teeth. Kindly suggest which treatment I should take.

BDS
Dentist, Pune
First of all. Lets find the reason of bad breadth. So firstly visit a dentist and then do a scaling and polishing. Later learn correct brushing technique and flossing. So that you will be able to maintain a good oral hygiene by yourself. You can use any mouthwash which is available in market but once when you remove the bad breath then you will be able to get a good result of mouthwash. For any more query or treatment visit us today.

I am 17 years old male and I have yellowish deposit between my teeth. I also had a bad breath. What should I do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

I have problem in my teeth as tha muscles are getting weaker and swell after brushing every time in morning what should I do?

Post-Graduate Certificate in Endodontics
Dentist, Cuttack
Hi lybrate-user. Bleeding and swollen gums is definitely a major problem. You need to go a scaling procedure to clean your teeth and gums followed by gums treatment done by the dentist. This will gradually heal your gums and prevent swelling and bleeding. Every 3 months review of your gums from dentist is required for you. With this, proper hygiene need to be maintained of your mouth. Thank you.

Flossing is as important as brushing on a daily basis. Taking the floss all the way down to the point where the teeth and gums meet is the appropriate way of doing it.

What can be the reason my lips and mouth are looking different and when I close my lips they look very different. And I am not comfortable.

Kindly consult an orthodontist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (model study, full mouth & profile x-ray) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need fixed / removable braces. Requirements may depends on the age, complaint, duration of the treatment & affordability. Cost of cosmetic dentistry (braces) varies with dentist.

My gums bleed whenever I brush and also I have bad breath issue, kindly let me know how to solve the issue.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! Brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - Floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - Control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - Rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - Stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - Eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - Try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a "water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - You may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person.

Hi, vitiligo is a skin disease in which there are white patchy areas on skin. It does not occur in mouth. If you have white patches in your mouth, the condition is completely different. We will need photograph of your lesion so that we can know what it is and treat accordingly. Regards.
