Light exercises you can start which doesn't put extra strain on your abdominal muscles but fasting is not a very good idea as you have yo feed the baby also.

On 15th day after. Urine test shows weekly positive. What are the scops of pregnancy and what are the other elements I need to check. What must be the minimum result of hcg test that I have always given in the lab and waiting for report.

On 15th day after. Urine test shows weekly positive. What are the scops of pregnancy and what are the other elements ...
Weekly positive is positive but sometimes it may suggest a failing pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy. Get a serum b hcg, at this stage the value should be in 5 digits. Repeat it after 48 hours of first test .if the value doubles, it confirms the normal pregnancy.

I had irregular periods. My doctor prescribed Me regestrone for three days. I got my period. During that time I was also given some antibiotics like microdox lbx. My period started on 12th and ended on 18th but I have been having continuous spotting till now (24th). The blood is brownish (kind of like the blood at the end of a period cycle). So far it had been very little but today I experienced a heavier discharge of dark, sludgy blood. My reports show that I didn't have either viral, parasite or fungal infections. Basically infection was "sterile" according to my doctor and therefore she decided to put me on broad spectrum antibiotics. Why am I experiencing this bleeding? How can I stop it? Is this dangerous? My doctor will not give me clear answers over the phone and I'm traveling. Please help me.

Hi,In irregular periods, when the periods get delayed your uterus lining will get thickened. And when you get bleeding it will shed out for longer time.Do an USG scan of pelvis and look for thickness of endometrium. Please restart regesteroneIn once a day and continue for 15days .Then stop it .when you get periods again you can restart RegesteroneIn from 5 th day and continue for 21 days. This will regularise your cycle. If you need a detailed consultation please revert back to me.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Is Caffeine Good For The Health?

Caffeine is the most consumed stimulant in the world,
It is consumed in the form of coffee and tea.
At present there is no scientific data for promoting or discouraging coffee and/or tea consumption in the daily diet.
Short term benefits include mental alertness and improved athletic performance.
Short term adverse effects including headache, anxiety, tremors, and insomnia.
Long term adverse affects include generalized anxiety disorder and substance abuse disorders.
Long?term benefits are dose?dependent. Caffeine is associated with a reduced risk of Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease, alcoholic cirrhosis, and gout. Both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee are also associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
Heavy coffee intake may trigger coronary and arrhythmic events in susceptible individuals, although coffee intake is not considered a long?term risk factor for myocardial disease.
Most studies show a modest inverse relationship between coffee consumption and all?cause mortality.
Caffeine withdrawal is a well?documented clinical syndrome with headache being the most common symptom.

What is the use of progesterone during pregnancy? Is it an optional medicine during pregnancy?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
What is the use of progesterone during pregnancy? Is it an optional medicine during pregnancy?
Progesterone is naturally secreted by pregnancy to maintain it. As it is naturally secreted then there is no need to take progesterone. Progesterone tablets have become fashion and a source of income these days for the doctors. There is no need to take any medicines except folic acid in the first 3 months. It is not optional, it is not needed at all and this fact is based on the research done world wide on this issue.

Please suggest diet for Lactose in-tolerant. Can a Lactose in-tolerant can consume Yogurt?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Please suggest diet for Lactose in-tolerant. Can a Lactose in-tolerant can consume Yogurt?
The most common high-lactose foods include: Milk, milkshakes and other milk-based beverages. Whipping cream and coffee creamer. Ice cream, ice milk, sherbet. Cheese. Butter. Puddings, custards. Cream soups, cream sauces. Foods made with milk. Regular yogurt is often tolerable for people with lactose intolerance, even though it's high in lactose. Most yogurts contain active, live bacteria that actually help break down the lactose from the yogurt. However, frozen yogurt doesn't typically contain these beneficial bacterial cultures.

How To Prepare For Your Endometriosis Laparoscopy

DDF, FCCP, MD , MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
How To Prepare For Your Endometriosis Laparoscopy

Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus, the endometrium grows outside (endometrial implant). It commonly involves ovaries, bowel or tissues lining your pelvis. The main symptoms are pelvic pain and infertility. While chronic pain exists throughout, it tends to aggravate during menstruation and / or sex. Though the cause is not entirely clear, women with a family history of the condition need to be extra cautious. Endometriosis is normally detected by its symptoms combined with a medical imaging. Though the growth is not generally cancerous, a biopsy is recommended to eliminate doubts.

The condition of endometriosis is attached with social and psychological effects as it affects a woman's child bearing ability. Most minds race anxiously as to what the surgeon might find and will your body heal after the procedure. Here are some tips to prepare for your endometriosis laparoscopy

  1. Before the surgery: Read up as much as possible about your condition and note down questions you want to ask your doctor. Get details about the entire procedure and how the doctor is treating your specific case. Having knowledge will help you stay calm and focused. Next, gear your home for the process. Stock your fridge with quick heat homemade meals. It's best for you and the family to have healthy food than the store bought preservative laden food. Clean your home, change your sheets and purchase some loose fit clothing for later use. Last but not the least, stock up on some reading material that will come handy during your rest period.
  2. On day of surgery: Do not eat or drink anything from 12 midnight until the time of your surgery. You may also need the unpleasant enema procedure during your prep. Remove your nail polish and leave your jewellery, watch and valuables at home. Shower and get to the hospital early to get on with the forms you'll need to fill. The procedure requires anesthesia so do discuss your allergies or any concerns you may have with this aspect of the procedure. Once you are set with you IV and anesthesia, the doctor takes over to do what they do best cure you.
  3. The procedure:  a small incision is made near the belly button and the abdomen is filled with CO2 gas which lifts it away from other organs. During the laparoscopy, the doctor examines the pelvic organs, looking for obvious and atypical endometriosis lesions as well as endometriomas (endometriosis'filled cysts),adhesions, and scarring. He may then remove the lesions to send to a lab for biopsy
  4. After surgery: You'll most likely wake up groggy in the recovery room after your surgery. You may feel some pain as you come around but if it's a day procedure, you'll be able to leave as soon as you feel ready.

Although pregnancy may temporarily suppress the symptoms of endometriosis, it does not eradicate the disease. The symptoms will almost always return after the baby is born. If you are suffering from this painful condition and want to seek help, you can consult here.

Hi, my daughter is of 12 years old and she is on mensuration periods since last two months approx. Please suggest.

MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Ludhiana
Hi, my daughter is of 12 years old and she is on mensuration periods since last two months approx.
Please suggest.
Hi, this is a very good question, every parent must ask. Every girl must learn the basics of menstrual hygiene so to avoid infection. She should follow _ 1- bathe at least once a day to clean herself & avoid odor. 2- cleaning of vaginal area and hands properly & frequently. Always wash vagina externally, with mild soap specially formulated for this purpose. 3- vagina must be cleaned from front to back and try to keep vaginal and anal wiping separate. Cleaning of vagina from back to front will increase the risk of vaginal and urinary track infection. 4- frequently change sanitary pads as dampness will irritate skin and will promote infection. 5- don't use same brand of sanitary pad for long duration. 6- avoid tight clothes & synthetic fabric as these will irritate skin and will increase dampness. Wear cotton & loose fitting clothing to stay fresh and dry. This care must be followed all through the month also.
