Please dont give any medicines to the baby. Just continue breast feeding 8-10 times a day. Do night feeding also. Baby is just 2m old. She will gain weight with breast feeds itself.

My ward (child) is 13 year old having weight 26 kg only. His growth (both weight & hight) is not not normal as per age. His diet is (one chapati in lunch & dinner) very less & feel uneasy if try to eat more. Please suggest what shold I do? I am very anxious for my ward health.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Your child is not very much under weight. Some children eat less and do not put on much weight. In fact obesity is a leading problem in childhood. If we make sure he has no underlying diseases nothing need to be worried. There' s appetite stimulant and he can be given nutritional supplement. More can be personally discussed. If interested you can come to personal chat online. Regards

My child who is 6 years complete in Oct 2015. And his weight is 17 kg. But he is taking meals with so much force. Breakfast also same. Nd I am employee. So day by day I loss my patience about my child. Any medicine. Pls help me. Male child.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Do not scold your child and no medicine is needed but check his tsh and inform. Consider causes. Understanding causes will restore your trust in your child to do her part with feeding. To fully understand those causes, you and your child need to have had a full assessment, including longitudinal and developmental history and growth and, most particularly, feeding dynamics past and present. Most medical and even nutritional assessments don't address feeding dynamics and history, and it leaves a gap in understanding. Medical assessments and labs are helpful with respect to indicating whether your child has recovered from early medical maladies and/or has some other malady.

How to tackle a hyperactive child of 7 years who lacks concentration but fetches good marks in academics. As a result his mother hits him quite often. How to handle?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Stop hitting at once, it will have unbearable consequences in his future life due to psychological trauma. You should appreciate him for academic achievements and love him unconditionally. Visit child psychologist to get a proper perspective of his hyperactive behaviour. Please stop beating/hitting him, control your emotions.

Is it healthwise safe for a less than one month old infant to travel through train for approx 24 hour long journey?

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Nagpur
Is it healthwise safe for a less than one month old infant to travel through train for approx 24 hour long journey?
Ideally travelling for such long duration should be avoided as there are issues like feeding and privacy for feeding the baby is not available always. Also the baby may be exposed to unnecessary airborne infection during travel.

I am from Bangalore, and my son is 8 years 9 months old, and he has pain just around the umbilical cord region. Checked in google. Also known as belly button pain. His pain is severe. Since 4 years. All along we had been visiting doctors thinking it could be gastric related. Very confusing what exactly is the problem. While all his organs are normal in a scan. Could it be some kind of intestinal hernia or really a gastro related problem.

There are many reasons for pain around umbilicus. One of them is non specific known as idiopathic. Since Scan is normal, it may be idiopathic, such pain disappears on its own after some time. If your son otherwise is normal, need not to worry. Just console him, you may give warm fomentation to the part. Hernia is visible on the part which can be easily detected. Gastric related problems present with other associated symptoms.

My 1 and half year old son ate sea fish on Sunday and yesterday afternoon he once vomit and from then he is suffering from fever. Tell me what sort of diet can I give for him and should I need to take him to hospital. Before ten days he was suffering from severe loose motion and fever and that time doctor gave him cefixime.

General Physician (AM)
Alternative Medicine Specialist, Chandigarh
Why wasting time? get him to doctor as soon as possible , may be he is having sea food allergy!the doctor would be able to desensitize you to the offending seafood so that the reaction is minimized . BioChemic medicine for this type of fever is Ferrum Phos 3x 2 pills three times a day

MBBS, DNB (Pediatrics)

7.8kg at 1 year is quite low for her age. It could be plain regurgitation or something more sinister. Before coming to conclusion more information will be needed. Consult a pediatrician or u can send private questions.

Common Orthopedic Disorders In Children

Common Orthopedic Disorders In Children

Sometimes children suffer from conditions where their feet may not be in proper shape or size, something that can affect their posture. Most of the times the disorders get corrected themselves as children grow up, but there can be situations where medical attention is required. These conditions can be normal variations in the anatomy as well which don't essentially require treatment. Some of the common orthopedic disorders found in children include:

  1. Flatfeet: While most babies are born with flat feet which develop arches as they grow, in some case the arches remain underdeveloped even after they grow older. Their feet may turn inwards while they walk due to their flat nature. There is no inherent problem in this condition unless it becomes painful. Doctors may recommend special footwear with arches inserted for support to reduce the pain.
  2. Toe Walking: Toe walking is not a disorder while your child is just learning to walk. Toddlers who continue to walk on their toes after the age of 3 may require medical attention. Toe walking on one leg or persistent toe walking can be due to other medical conditions like muscle weakness, cerebral palsy or autism. It is advisable to take your child to a therapist for casting the foot and ankle which can help stretch the muscles.
  3. Pigeon Toes: In toeing or pigeon toeing is common among babies when they are first learning to walk. Sometimes children above 3 years walk with their toes inwards which can be due to femoral anteversion. This happens when upper part of the leg bends more than it naturally should, causing inward rotation of the feet. Specially designed shoes and braces can help to correct this condition. Usually, the condition corrects on its own with age and does not interfere with sport activities which involve running.
  4. Knock-Knees: It is a common tendency among children aged between 3 and 6 to develop knock-knees (genu valgum), since their bodies go through natural shift in alignment. Usually, treatment is not required as the legs straighten out eventually. Knock knees on one side or persistent knock knees may require medical attention. Children with this disorder may suffer from pain hence in some cases surgery is recommended after the age of 10.

I have one kid he is 25 months old he was drinking only milk not eating food so please solve my problem.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Firstly if your child is bottle fed, immediately stop his bottle feeding. Give milk up to three times a day by glass. Give four semisolid meals in a day. In case he doesn't eat, do not give milk instead. Eat with him. This should gradually improve the situation.
