Namaskar Doston!

Me Dr. Nikhil Modi, sleep medicines ka specialist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Sarita Vihar, Delhi se. Aaj me apse saans and neend se related problems ke bare me apse discuss krna chaunga. Ise obstructive sleep apnea kehte hain. Is bimari ke bare me abhi log jyada aware nhi hain. Is bimari ka treatment bhi possible hai. Obstructive sleep apnea ka mtlb hai sote waqt saans ka rukna. Logon ko lgta hai ki khrate gihri neend ki nishani hai. But ye saans rukne ka pehle symptom hai. Ye age ke badhne ke sath bimafri hoti hai. Overweight, diabetes, and thyroid ke patient me ye bimari jyada dekhi jati hai. Metabolic syndrome me obese hone ke sath sath galle me bhi charbi deposit hoti hai.

Saans ki naliyan weak ho jati hain. Jaise hi hum raat ko gehri neend me jate hain, hmare aage ki muscles piche ko gir jati hai jis se saans ka rasta band ho jata hai. Aadha band hone se khratte aate hain. Pura band hone se saans ruk jati hai jis se hum bich me hi uth jate hain. Morning me uthte hi hume lgta hai ki hum thake hue hain. Hum active nhi reh pate. Dekha gya hai ki vo driving krte hue bhi soo jate hain jisse accident ke chances badh jate hain. Ye bimari hmara lifestyle effect krti hai. Hmara weight badhta hai and saans fulta hai. Agar apko ye sab symptoms hain to iske specialist se contact kren quki is bimari ko control kia ja skta hai. Agar is control nhi kia gya to iske bhut harm hain.

Qui saans rukne se heart and brain pe effect ata hai. Isse blood pressure and sugar ka control khrab hota hai. Sudden cardiac arrest ke bhi chances badh jate hain. Heart attack se apki death hone ke bhi chances hote hain. Agar brain pe effect aata hai to brain stroke or paralysis ke chances increase ho jate hain. Iska treatment bhi possible hai. Weight reduce and lifestyle changes bhut important hain. Agar bimari jyada severe hai to nose pe lgane ke lia ek machine aati hai jo aap sote time use kar skte hain. Or apke risk factors reduce ho jate hain. Surgical procedures bhi available hai jisse is problem ko thik kia ja skta hai. Agar apko ye symptoms hain to aap apni bimari ki severity janne ke lia specialist se milen. Treatment le ke aap apni life ko acha kar skte hain or bimari se bach skte hain.

Thank You!

Reduce excess carbohydrate intake like rice, banana, chips, burgers, pizzas, etc 4. Minimize sugar intake in the form of sweets, cakes, pastries, chocolates, etc 5. Dear lybrateuser, drinking warm water in the morning is good, one or two glasses is good enough for you. It is more beneficial if you add lemon & a teaspoon of honey to it (do not add honey if you have high blood sugar).

What To Do If You Are Suffering From Dysmenorrhea?

MBBS,MD(medicine), MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MRCOG, FRCOG, FICM
Gynaecologist, Bangalore
What To Do If You Are Suffering From Dysmenorrhea?

In preparation for the possibility of conception, a woman's body undergoes the menstrual cycle every month which culminates with the periods. This is a normal process which all women of reproductive age experience every month. However, in certain cases, the periods can be really painful where one may suffer from menstrual cramps or could be generally in much pain. This condition is known as Dysmenorrhea.

What exactly is Dysmenorrhea?

As mentioned above, dysmenorrhea is a disorder that many women go through while having their periods where they may suffer from painful cramps. The pain usually occurs in the pelvic area and the lower abdomen and may also be accompanied by other symptoms.

Some symptoms of Dysmenorrhea:

Some of the symptoms of dysmenorrhea could be any combination of the following factors:

I. Very painful menstrual cramps accompanied by lower back pain

II. Diarrhoea and nausea along with the cramps

III. Pain in the inner thighs, lower back and hips

IV. Being hypersensitive to light, loud sounds, specific smells and touch

V. Being fatigued all the time, even causing you to faint

Causes of Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is usually caused by the contraction of the uterus. While the uterus does contract a little even in normal periods, during dysmenorrhea the contractions tend to be a little too much. Due to this the uterus presses against the blood vessels and organs within the vicinity causing oxygen loss to them. This causes elevated levels of pain and discomfort.

There are primary and secondary dysmenorrhoea. Primary dysmenorrhoea is menstrual cramps which are not related to any of the following pathologies. Some of the underlying causes of secondary dysmenorrhea are:

1. Endometriosis - This is where the uterine lining is found outside the uterus, especially in the pelvic cavity and thus may cause painful cramps.

2. Tumors - Tumors or fibroids which are unwanted growths on the inside of the uterus may also trigger dysmenorrhea.

What to do if you are suffering from Dysmenorrhea?

Some basic care which you can take to ease pain from dysmenorrhea are:

1. Avoid smoking and abstain from alcohol

2. Ample rest during periods

3. Keep the body well hydrated

4. Don't consume foods high in salt

5. Don't drink coffee or any caffeine rich foods

6. Lower back massages and hot water bag treatments to relieve pain

In very severe cases, pain killers which are safe to take, may be prescribed. Other hormonal treatment may be required if other pathologies have been diagnosed such as endometriosis etc.
