Question for Dermatologist. Recently past 2 months I have recurring painful boil eruption with pus one after another (not simultaneous) which when treated with hot fermentation subsides, but with a scar. I got my blood sugar checked- fasting and after and it was normal. What are the reasons? Till date 5-6 no eruptions have occurred Thanks

Cucumber can be used alone or in combination with other ingredients. Not only does it have a cooling effect but it also helps improve the colour of the skin around the eyes. The easiest way out is to cut a cucumber into thick slices, refrigerate them for about 30 minutes and then place lightly on your eyes. Alternatively, you can crush a little cucumber and extract the juice; apply this around the eyes, keep it on for 15 minutes and then wash with water. Adding a dash of lemon juice into the cucumber juice also helps because the latter has a bleaching action that reduces the darkness of the skin. If your eyes are puffy, mix in a little potato juice into the cucumber juice for best results. Also read about how cucumber relieves other skin problems. Potato Potato also contains bleaching agents and whether you use it with cucumber or alone, it can help to reduce dark circles. Keep two potatoes in the refrigerator for a few hours; then peel and grate and extract potato juice. Dip a cotton ball in this juice and apply around your eyes. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse out with water. The bleaching agents of potato can also help lighten dark spots on your skin. Rose water Rose water has been traditionally used to rejuvenate the eyes and give them a sparkling look. It works equally well as a remover of dark circles. Soak a little cotton in rose water and dab it over and under your closed eyes. Wash off after 15 minutes with water. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening every day and in a few weeks? time, your eyes will appear brighter. Almond oil Almond oil is considered as being one of the best oils for babies because it does not harm delicate skin. The same logic makes it a good choice for dark circles under the eyes where the skin is more delicate than on the rest of the face. Dab on a few drops of almond oil and lightly massage it into the affected area before going to bed. The next morning, wash it away with water. Apart from this, you could also use triphla water to beat dark circles. Get sufficient sleep Dark circles under the eyes are a common occurrence in people who do not get enough sleep. Make sure you sleep for at least six to seven hours every night; if you suffer from insomnia or sleep apnoea that prevents you from getting refreshing sleep, speak to your doctor about the measures you can use to overcome this problem. Here are some tips to beat insomnia and sleep apnoea. Another thing to consider is if your sleeping posture is making your eyes look puffy. Because of the effect of gravity, fluids collect under the eyes when you lie on your stomach or on the side. Try changing your sleep position and see if it reduces the bags under your eyes. Even yoga can help reduce dark circles. Read how you can get rid of under-eye circles with yoga.

Avoid tight undergarments. Wear loose cotton underclothes. Keep the private parts dry. Remove any form of moisture that accumulates. Change underclothes regularly. Reduce weight. Tinea is due to a fungal infection which grows in hot, humid, wet environments. You need to use antifungals.

Fibula flap is from the leg as bone is removed not chest. If chest wall flap, it's usually a Pectoralis major muscle and skin flap. If you have had a fibula, there is no jaw shift and hence you would be able to eat from Opposite side where teeth are present. If it was a pectoralis flap, you need a guide bite prosthesis on Opposite teeth to get alignment of the jaw to be able to chew. Something stuck in throat is not a good sign. It is called as dysphagia and could be due to esophageal cancer. Also the dark tarry stools are suggestive of upper GI bleed, which could be due to cancer of Esophagus or any other bleeding. Better to show it to your surgeon who operated upon you. He would do an endoscopy to ding the cause. If you want to share your reports or discuss this further, feel free to contact me directly.

Botox & Fillers - Get a Rejuvenated Skin!

Botox & Fillers - Get a Rejuvenated Skin!

With age, the skin begins to deteriorate and gradually lose its function and appearance.  The underlying layers of collagen, which give it the firmness and elasticity begin to gradually break down, leading to sagging of the skin, dark spots and pigments, and dull, lusterless skin.

This causes cosmetic and psychological concerns, given that most people (especially women) become extremely conscious about these and want to avoid these ageing effects of skin. Over the past few decades, skin fillers and Botox have begun to play a major role in skin rejuvenation, especially from the various ageing effects.

Let us look at these two methods and how they have worked their magic around skin care.

Botox: The neurotoxin from botulinum A was actually used for treating muscular disorders to cause paralysis and prevent repeated twitching. However, it was later realised that the same effect could be used in skin to reduce ageing effects.  Used commonly in the crow’s feet area, forehead and frown lines, the injected Botox causes paralysis of the underlying muscles.

This reduces the muscular activity and so the muscles relax and soften.  This produces a younger looking appearance.  In addition, these paralysed muscles also give some time for the elastin and collagen to recover.

The Botox injections are usually done in the outpatient setting and require about half an hour to an hour. The areas for injection are marked and after the procedure, the patient can go back to regular schedule, including working.  It might require repeat injections, about 4 to 6 months later, depending on how well the skin responds and the expectations of the patients.

Fillers: Another routinely and commonly used way to manage wrinkles are the dermal fillers. The elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin are lost with age and these filler injections replace the lost substances in very quick time and thereby restore youthful skin quickly.  Unlike Botox, the muscles are not touched.  There is a loosening of the collagen and elastin, which produces loose skin and sagging.  The fillers occupy the space left behind by the lost collagen and elastin and actually ‘fill’ up the extra available space. This gives a firmer, younger looking skin.  The lines and creases are actually eliminated. They can also be used to produce thicker lips, lifting cheeks and plumping temples.

So, if you are worried about ageing effects of skin, talk to a dermatologist to find out if Botox or fillers can do the trick for you!!
