Super Fact of the Day: Your cells can self-destruct!

General Physician, Faridabad
Super Fact of the Day: Your cells can self-destruct!
If a cell is damaged or if it acquires some kind of infection, it has the ability to commit suicide by a process called apoptosis. This works to ensure proper development by keeping the body's process of mitosis in check. A cell's inability to experience apoptosis can result in the advancement of cancer.

I am trying to conceive till 1 yr. My Dr. ask me to do IUI test. Can this process works to conceive and how many chances of get pregnant after iui? Please answer this question soon its urgent.

MBBS, DNB Obs &Gynae, Diploma in Reproductive Medicine (Germany), Fellowship in Laparoscopy
IVF Specialist, Delhi
After trying for 1 year any couple should atleast get investigated To know the cause. So I would suggest you to go for those tests first and then decide accordingly whether it's required or not. Atleast the status of tubes should be clear before iui. Yes IUI has 15 To 20% increased chances of conception as compared to natural pregnancy. So if your tubes are open and husband sperm count is good then you can go ahead. All the best.

General Physician,
Why should we donate blood?
Blood is a precious human resource that is only available from voluntary donors.
Blood cannot be made in any lab in the world.
Every 3 seconds someone needs blood. We think that someone else will donate the blood that is needed, as a result, only less than 5% of qualified donors actually donate the blood.
The common your blood group, more and more people are going to need it. So don’t say that my blood group is too common.
Persons above 18years of age and over 50kgs in weight can donate blood once in 3 months. There is no upper limit age for blood donation.
Less than 10% of blood is taken out at time of blood donation. This blood is replaced by your body in 24-48 hours.
Every donor is given a medical check-up prior to donation to see if he is medically fit for donation
Even if you are taking any medication, still you may be able to donate the blood.
No special diet, rest or medicine is required after blood donation.
The donor cannot contract any infectious disease by donating blood. There is a clear procedure for taking blood from each donor. At no time will a donor come in contact with any piece of equipment or material that has had contact with someone else’s blood or body fluids.
Only 20 min are required for blood donation.
It gives you inner satisfaction, experience it!!!

Exercise- An Investment in Your Current and Future Health

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), MD - Ayurveda

Exercise- An Investment in Your Current and Future Health

Exercise is a vital part of preventive health care as you get older. It has beneficial effect on every part of the body. It keeps the skin and hair in good condition, makes you more energetic, speeds up the pasaage of food through the digestive ststem, it speeds up the metaboloism (the rate at which the body burns calories), it strengthens bones and muscles, it srablies blood sugar, prevents weight gain, has postive effect on the mind and emotions, beat depression and raise your self - esteem.
While you are exetcising, your optimum heart rate should always be betwwen 60 and 80 petcent of the maximum heart rate (mhr)
60% of your mhr is the minimum elevation of your heart rate that you should aim for during exercise. Now calculate 80% of your mhr, this is the maximum elevation of your heart rate that you should aim for during exercise. A heart rate that is between 60- 80% of your mhr is said to be in your training zone, eg- if you are 50, your mhr is 170, your minimum training heart rate is 102 and your maximum training heart rate is 136, if you stick to these guidelines you will be able to burn body fat and exercise your cardiovascular system safely.
When you have finished exercising you should check that your heart returns to its normal rate wirhin 10 minutes, if it takes longer than 10 minutes, it is advisable that you exercise at a slower pace until you become fitter.

Lady, 38+age, abortion 10 years ago. Now planning for hsg report it is shown spillage of contrast in both fallopian tube, 2.filling defect noted in uterine cavity? What does it mean? Could this cured? Can she be pregnant normally? Can IUI take place?

MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), DMAS, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Lucknow
It's a difficult situation. Filling defect in uterus may result from a previous D n C done for abortion and if no spillage is seen from both the tubes it means the tubes r blocked. Can repeat hsg once more to confirm bcoz sometimes tubal blockage can b just a tubal spasm. If repeat hsg also shows same, then it wud b difficult for her to conceive normally or thru IUI. Consult an IVF clinic for that.

It's not advisable to take these pills as they create harmonal imbalance and menstrual irregularities, which in future might create difficulties in conceiving, you are just 18 and even in girls or women who are older we abstain them from having these.

Your pain is likely to be due to overweight. Dip your foot and ankle for 15 min in warm water twice daily for 15 days. Use crepe bandage while walking. Visit an orthopaedic surgeon if pain still persists.
