Hymen is not important and one can not decide from that. However one's reactions, body language, interaction may give some clues which are never sure.

Hi me and my gf want to have sex without any precautions. Can you say me the exact what days after or before period to have a sex. Without getting pregnancy.

M.D. homoeopathy, BHMS
Homeopath, Noida
If she has regular cycles than 9 days from the day of start of menses and 10 days before the next cycle date is usually considered safe. But this is not 100% safe also, as sometimes ovulation occurs late also in few cases. So best is to use protection.

I am pregnant and diabetic too. I just want a proper diet chart according to time.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
I am pregnant and diabetic too. I just want a proper diet chart according to time.
You may be able to control gestational diabetes by eating well and exercising regularly. This means you won't need to take medication. Sugar (glucose) is one of your body's main sources of energy. Your body uses a hormone called insulin to control the amount of sugar in your blood and to turn it into fuel. But pregnancy hormones reduce the effect of insulin, so your body has to make more to be able to use any sugar in your blood. If you have gestational diabetes, your body isn't producing enough insulin. As a result, your blood sugar levels can get very high and that can lead to problems for your baby. It's possible to keep your blood sugar levels under control by changing what you eat and combining your new healthy diet with regular exercise. In fact, up to 90 per cent of women with gestational diabetes control it this way. DIET There are two types of carbohydrate that give you energy when you eat them. They are: complex carbohydrates, or starch simple carbohydrates, or sugars Sometimes, complex carbohydrates are described as good carbs, and simple carbohydrates as bad. But this doesn't give the whole picture. Simple carbohydrates include added sugars, such as table sugar and honey, as well as natural sugars, found in fruit and milk. Eating plenty of fruit and some dairy products is a healthy thing to do. So when people call simple sugars bad carbs, they are talking about added sugars. If you have gestational diabetes and you have too many foods and drinks high in added sugars, it can upset your blood glucose control. It's not healthy for people without diabetes, either. At least half the energy in our diets should come from carbohydrate, mostly as starchy carbohydrates. Starchy carbohydrates are: bread rice pasta grains potatoes Try to have wholegrain varieties where possible. They provide extra fibre, which is important for your digestion. If you have gestational diabetes, the types of food and drink you'll be advised to have are no different from the type of healthy diet everyone should have. Your food should be high in complex carbohydrates and low in saturated fat. You should not have added sugars, although you won't have to cut them out completely. It's best if you eat fruit, milk and yoghurts as part of a mixed meal. Your body will then absorb the simple sugars in the juice or dairy food more slowly. That's because the sugars are mixed with other food elements, such as fibre and protein. AND USE LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX FOODS LIKE pasta made with durum wheat flour apples, oranges, pears, peaches beans and lentils sweetcorn porridge Eat plenty of high-fibre foods. These foods tend to have a low GI. This may help to keep your blood sugar levels from going too high after meals. High-fibre foods include: fresh fruit and vegetables wholegrain breads and cereals dried peas, beans and pulses.

Hello, I want to ask about the menopause condition, what are the symptoms and what are the precautions?

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Hello, symptoms that women may have around the time of menopause and tips for dealing with them. Hot flashes •Try to notice what triggers your hot flashes and avoid those things. Possible triggers to consider include spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, stress, or being in a hot place. •Dress in layers and remove some when you feel a flash starting. •Use a fan in your home or workplace. •If you still have menstrual periods, ask your doctor if you might take low-dose oral contraceptives (birth control pills). These may help symptoms and prevent pregnancy. •Try taking slow, deep breaths when a flash starts. •If you’re overweight, losing weight might help with hot flashes, Vaginal dryness •A water-based, over-the-counter vaginal lubricant like K-Y Jelly or Astroglide can help make sex more comfortable. •An over-the-counter vaginal moisturizer like Replens can help keep needed moisture in your vagina if used every few days and can make sex more comfortable. Sleeping Problems •One of the best ways to get a good night's sleep is to be physically active. You might want to avoid exercise close to bedtime, though, since it might make you more awake. •Avoid large meals, smoking, and working right before bedtime. Avoid caffeine after noon, and avoid alcohol close to bedtime. •Try drinking something warm before bedtime, such as caffeine-free tea or warm milk. •Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool. Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex. •Avoid napping during the day, and try to go to bed and get up at the same times every day. •If you wake during the night and can't get back to sleep, get up and do something relaxing until you’re sleepy. •Avoid taking on too many duties. Look for positive ways to ease your stress. Memory problems •Some women complain of memory problems or trouble focusing in midlife. But studies suggest that natural menopause has little effect on these functions. •Getting enough sleep and keeping physically active might help improve symptoms. Mental exercises may help too, so ask your doctor about them. •If forgetfulness or other mental problems are affecting your daily life, see your physician.

Alien Hand Syndrome: Causes and Effects

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Alien Hand Syndrome: Causes and Effects

Alien Hand Syndrome or AHS is a neurological disorder that causes the patient's hand to move involuntarily. The individual has no control over the movement of the hand and sometimes, he or she may not even be aware of the action! The patients often report feeling like their hand does not belong to them anymore. The disease has no cure but the symptoms can be treated and reduced. Usually the hand is kept occupied constantly by holding a light object.

Causes of Alien Hand Syndrome:
Though the exact causing factor of AHS is unknown, there are a number of instances which have been shown to influence the development of the condition. The chief factors are:

  1. Brain injury: Injury caused to the brain by blunt force trauma or faulty surgery can lead to Alien Hand Syndrome. This is particularly seen if the frontal lobe (the brain center of voluntary movement) or the corpus callosum (the bundle of nerve fibers connecting the left and right hemispheres of the brain) is affected. These are the areas that regulate motor functioning and the neural pathways to execute the actions.
  2. Brain tumor: A tumor (a mass of abnormal cells) pressing on the motor centers of the brain can cause involuntary movements of the left hand in a right handed person. This is because the right hemisphere of the brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa. Tumors blocking the neural pathways usually cause errant movements of the predominant hand.
  3. Neurodegenerative conditions: Diseases like Alzheimer's disease and Creutzfeld & Jakob Disease are characterized by memory loss, rapid changes in personality and growing defects in the central nervous system. AHS could be a complication of such disorders. Effects of Alien Hand Syndrome This is an extremely rare condition. There have been less than 80 known cases around the world since 1908.

The disorder is often unreported because it is mistaken for a psychiatric problem due to its unusual symptoms and effects.

  1. The patient may not even be aware of what his 'alien hand' is doing. The hand may even begin functioning of its own accord when the patient is asleep.
  2. AHS can result in feelings of guilt and shame because of the embarrassing actions of the hand that the patient has absolutely no control over. The hand is often said to be governed by primal animalistic urges of hitting others, tearing clothes off etc.
  3. The condition often leads to social anxiety, depression and paranoia.

Sir, my wife is pregnant so sir how can I care of her and the nourishment of young one and mother.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Sir, my wife is pregnant so sir how can I care of her and the nourishment of young one and mother.
Hello. If she doesn’t have any medical condition and if her diet is poor to begin with, it is even more important to make sure she has a healthy diet now. She needs more vitamins and minerals, especially folic acid and iron. She needs a few more calories during her pregnancy as well. Getting her diet right for pregnancy is more about what she eats than about how much. Limit junk food, as it has lots of calories with few or no nutrients. Let her eat a variety of foods from these different food groups each day: Milk and dairy products: skimmed milk, yogurt/curd, buttermilk (chhaach), cottage cheese (paneer). They contain calcium. Cereals, whole grains, dals, pulses and nuts: these are good sources of protein if she does not eat meat. Vegetarians need about 45 grams of nuts and 2/3 of a cup of legumes for protein each day. Vegetables and fruits: these provide vitamins, minerals and fibre. Avoid Papaya. Meat, fish and poultry: these provide concentrated proteins. Fluids: Drink lots of fluids, especially water and fresh fruit juices. Make sure she drinks clean boiled or filtered water. Carry your own water when out of the house, or buy bottled water from a reputed brand. Avoid packaged juices as they have a very high sugar content. Fats and oils: Ghee, butter, coconut milk and oil are high in saturated fats, which are not very healthy. Hydrogenated vanaspati oil and ghee is high in trans fats, which are as bad for you as saturated fats. A better source of fat is vegetable oils because these contain more unsaturated fat. Dairy products, along with sea fish and sea salt or iodised salt are all good sources of iodine. she needs plenty of iodine in her diet to help your baby's development.
