Calender method is not a foolproof method of contraception.Ovulation can sometimes be erratic, its better to use a better method of contraception like OC pills , or Depot injections or IUDs

Is there any side effects of copper t and want to take any precautions while intercourse?

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
No as long as you are used to it it shouldn't be a problem. It however does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Hence you should use condoms in addition if needed.

I had an abortion during 10th week as baby had no growth after 6th week. Later on doc tested and said I had an rubella. Is there any treatment to cure it for my next pregnancy.

MBBS, DGO, DNB - Obstetrics and Gynecology
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Very sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Once you get Rubella infection normally antibodies develop in the body which protect future pregnancy. Don't worry. Your doctor would probably do a Rubella test again before you conceive again and look for its level in next pregnancy too.

Hi, after pregnancy, doctor said there is swelling in my uterus and I am taking medicine nusam400. But in period am suffering from pain on my left abdomen. Is this normal.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,
Nusam is a general health tablet given for liver disorders. There are lot of doctors who talk about such "swelling" of the uterus, and they may mean anything from a simple gas to a tumor, so the best thing for you would be to assess the situation and get a second opinion . The pain in left side could be due to constipation and it can be relieved by regular intake of fiber rich foods like carrot, radish, beet or cucumber, leafy vegetables, lettuce, along with fresh curds ( i wati ful ) and drink 2-3 liters of water per day..... If you dont get relief by this, meet a doctor and get your tummy checked up.

It's the 10th to 18th day from the first day of menstruation is usually considered as unsafe period in a regular cycle and there is more chance to get pregnancy. As per the information provided by you, on last day of the menstrual period ovum is not available for fertilization so you don't need to worry about pregnancy. And the reason for irregular period is multifactorial, maybe due to stress, anxiety of pregnancy, anemia and some medication like I pill or unwanted 72 etc. So if you are positive that the unprotected sexual intercourse has taken place in unsafe period, you need to do pregnancy test. Stay relaxed and take food rich in iron. Consult physician if the problem still persists. Contact if need further assistance.

Is it ok to use polythene bag instead of condom? And it will cause any problem or not?

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate user. Polythene bag can be used instead of condom. But polythene bag will be so thick when compared to condom, you or your partner will not find any pleasure out of the sex. Therefore avoid plastic bags. Use genuine condom. Take care.

Causes and Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infection

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, Mch urology
Urologist, Bangalore
Causes and Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infection

Infection caused in the kidneys, bladder, urethra or the ureters is known as urinary tract infection. According to doctors, women are generally more at risk of suffering from this condition than men.

Some of the causes which contribute to the development of this infection are:

  1. Invasion of bacteria: Like any other infection, one of the causes of urinary tract infection is the invasion of the bacteria Escherichia coli in the bladder. This type of bacteria is most commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract and is most often held responsible for urinary tract infection.
  2. Spreading of the bacteria from anus to urethra: The spread of the gastrointestinal bacteria from the anus to the urethra leads to the infection of the urethra thereby causing urinary tract infection.

Some of the symptoms of urinary tract infection are:

  1. A nagging urge to urinate: One of the most predominant symptoms of urinary tract infection is a persistent, nagging urge to urinate. You would know your urinary tract is infected when you feel the urgency to urinate extremely frequently.
  2. There is a burning sensation when you urinate: The symptoms of urinary infection are extremely visible and are felt intensely by the one suffering from it. If you feel a burning sensation while urinating, chances are extremely high that you are suffering from urinary tract infection.
  3. Red colored urine: Sometimes your urine may contain perceptible amount of blood in them. In most cases, presence of blood in urine is a definite sign of urinary tract infection.
  4. Foul smelled urine: An internal infection in the urinary tract manifests itself in different ways. One of the chief symptoms of this infection is discharging foul smelling urine.
  5. Pain in the pelvic area: Women who suffer from urinary tract infection experience excruciating pain near the pelvic area, sometimes extending to the pubic bone.

Control thyroid problems. There may be additional hormonal issue that must be corrected, not only to regularize periods but also to ensure conception. At the same time, the fertility factors of both you and your husband must be assessed.

I got my last menstrual cycle on 15th August 2015 still now not had please advice.

DGO, MBBS
Sexologist,
I got my last menstrual cycle on 15th August 2015 still now not had please advice.
If there is no chance of pregnancy then to detect the cause you need to do some blood tests and ultrasound of pelvis. After which you may need medicines if any report is abnormal. Fertilin and Regesterone are fine for Polycystic ovarian disease, but there are better drugs.
