If it does not hurt anymore, you can get back. But if it does, the injury is still new, you need to take a break. In 10-15 days, the pain should be gone. But if the injury is deep, it can take more time.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Non of the so called "sugar free" tablets or products are absolutely safe. Recent research shows that using these substitutes make one crave for sweets. So best is to avoid all of these substitutes. Thanks.

Regular STD Check Up - 7 Benefits Of It

Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery (B.U.M.S), PGD(Sexual Medicine & Councelling)

Regular STD Check Up - 7 Benefits Of It

STIs or sexually transmitted diseases are infections whose transmission to a healthy person from an infected person happens through sexual contact. However, with modern medicine and diagnostic techniques, there are ways to prevent, detect and cure them effectively and quickly.
Not all diseases are curable though and it is best to follow preventive measures. Also, for sexually active adults it is an absolute necessity to get tested regularly for their health as well as the well-being of their partners.
Why do people tend to avoid getting tested for STIs or sexually transmitted infections?
One of the major factors that avert people from regular tests is the social stigma attached with sexually transmitted diseases. It is absolutely imperative for sexually active adults to go for regular checkups so that if they have any infections or diseases, it can be diagnosed quickly and remedial measure can be taken appropriately.
The benefits of regular checkups:
Some of the benefits of regular checkups are mentioned here:-

  • Regular checkups can detect problems at a stage when the conditions may not have progressed too much and this will make it easily treatable.
  • With HIV positive patients, the quicker the testing gets done the quicker the treatment can be started. Thus, can prevent the onset of AIDS.
  • Regular checkups can control the progression of the diseases such as Chlamydia, which if left untreated can cause permanent infertility.
  • Getting a prospective partner tested is also a good idea as this can enable one to protect themselves from STIs.
  • Symptoms for certain STIs can be similar to many other non-sexual or non-venereal diseases. Thus getting tests done is the only way to get to know if there is an STI or if it is some other nonsexual disease.
  • HPV or Human Papilloma Virus can be detected easily with regular STI checkups and thus appropriate treatment can be started. If HPV isn't detected early, it can manifest much later in the form of cancer, which makes it more important to get yourself checked early on. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

I am masturbating since 3 years. I am 16 .regular to gym. Earlier inused to over masturbate. But since 1 year. I masturbate less. So do I have semen leakage? If I have den how will I stop.

I totally disagree. Mr. Lybrate-user, please remember mastrubation say once or twice a week has no ill effects on the bodyy. In fact for a young man it is a good practice to relieve the surges of built up sexual tension. That mastrubations causes weakness of body or mind, is a myth! the semen is produced in the body every day and in the absence release it tends to accumulate and build up inside the body. Regular mastrubation, in fact will reduce your chances of night fall or semen leakage. During teenage years of 16 years it is unlikely that you will have sex partner and it is not a good choice at this stage in life to indulge in sexual relationship instead of concentrating on your studies and career choices. So it is safer and healthier option to use matrubation as a mode to relieve your sexual tension.

Air Pollution - Tips to Prevent Asthma From Worsening!

MBBS, MD - General Medicine
General Physician, Gurgaon
Air Pollution - Tips to Prevent Asthma From Worsening!

Asthma is a distressing condition during which people find it difficult to breathe as the bronchi or tubes carrying air to lungs swell up. This happens when mucus inside bronchi comes into contact with an allergen like a pollutant or dirt causing symptoms like wheezing, coughing, more mucus production and difficulty breathing. There is no cure for asthma. As of now, it can only be managed. But managing asthma becomes really difficult during low air quality days, especially during winters when it’s cold and dry.

The most common air pollutants are gases like sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, vehicle smoke, and suspended particles. Each one of them can trigger an asthma attack by itself because of its deleterious effect on the lungs. The smaller the particulate matter is, the more dangerous it becomes as these particles get lodged in the air sacs inside lungs, causing not just asthma from worsening but also fatal diseases like lung cancer.

So, most asthma patients suffer from frequent attacks due to air pollution. How can these attacks be prevented? Here are some tips:

  1. According to research, asthma can be managed by making modifications in everyday life. On high air pollution days due to ozone, for example, asthmatics tend to experience more lung inflammation. If you are an asthmatic, you should reduce time spent outdoors, especially doing strenuous activity in the mornings and evenings. Keeping medications on hand and using those at the very start of an asthma attack also helps. There should always be a plan in place to lessen the chance of an asthma attack on poor air quality days starting from a rescue inhaler to preventive medication if your doctor feels you need it.
  2. Stay hydrated and breathe through the nose. Dehydration is dangerous for asthmatics especially when air quality is bad. In this case, lungs can become badly affected because they need right temperature and levels of water to work properly. It’s crucial to breathe through the nose only and not the mouth as the air breathed in from the mouth can be very cold and dry and can cause even more inflammation of the lungs.
  3. Know your asthma triggers and change lifestyle. Avoiding your triggers is key to managing asthma. If traffic fumes are a trigger, it’s best to change the route you take to work to manage your asthma. If you don’t know your triggers look back at your last asthma attack and remember what you were doing. Did you pet your dog? Write a diary and discuss with your doctor on how to avoid your triggers. Use a face mask when outdoors to limit exposure to allergens.
  4. Track your asthma to recognise early signs of asthma. If you know that it’s getting worse, you should have a fool-proof plan in place. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

ADHD is not fun for the child!

ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a condition characterized by an inability to concentrate and sustain attention. It is a biological problem of the brain.

Due to poor concentration the child feels bored easily and may become impulsive and appear to be mischievous

He may answer out of turn and will talk even when not spoken to.

He may have difficulty sitting at one place.

He maybe restless, fidgety and jumping about.

This will hamper his ability to remember things and may become forgetful and lose things.

This is something the child does not do on purpose and feels guilty and unhappy about, making the child feel low on self-esteem which may manifest as aggressive and rebellious behavior.

Tips for the teacher and parents

1. Keep the child close to her in the classroom

2. Keep the child away from the windows

3. Shower praise when he behaves appropriately.

4. Write important information down where the child can easily read and reference it

5.Divide big assignments into smaller ones, and allow children frequent breaks.

6. Incorporate Physical movement into classroom teaching.

7. Working with interruptions:

Reducing the interruptions of children with ADD/ADHD should be done carefully so that the child’s self-esteem is maintained, especially in front of others. Develop a “secret language” with the child with ADD/ADHD. You can use discreet gestures or words you have previously agreed upon to let the child know they are interrupting. Praise the child for interruption-free conversations.

8. Dealing with Impulsivity:

Give consequences immediately following misbehavior. Be specific in your explanation, making sure the child knows how they misbehaved.

Recognize good behavior out loud. Be specific in your praise, making sure the child knows what they did right.

Write the schedule for the day on the board or on a piece of paper and cross off each item as it is completed. Children with impulse problems may gain a sense of control and feel calmer when they know what to expect.

9. Dealing with Hyperactivity:

Ask children with ADD/ADHD to run an errand or do a task for you, even if it just means walking across the room to sharpen pencils or put books away.

Encourage the child to play a sport—or at least run around before and after school.

Provide a stress ball, small toy, or other object for the child to squeeze or play with discreetly at his or her seat.

Limit screen time in favor of time for movement. Your child will enjoy fast games like Subway Surfer and Temple Run.

Make sure a child with ADD/ADHD never misses recess or PT period.
