Lybrate user, Welcome to this forum! Yes depression and anxiety can be treated and cured with medicines. Negative thoughts and phobias can be curbed using therapy and medicines. Since depression and anxiety have neurobiological and environmental causes like stress, it can start suddenly in anyone. Prevention of recurrence or relapse is possible with regular medical and counselling therapies. Healthy mind is as important as healthy body! All the best!

You may be an introvert. This is a problem of fearing people for what they think about you. Yes, people will often judge you but that is not the final word. When we try to read other people’s mind we will always think that they know the worst things about you, that your flaws are easily visible, and then you feel self-conscious and guilt. This is all far from the truth. People do not know you, even if they are married to you for many years! In fact, you do not know yourself for many years and may go to your grave with a minimum understanding of yourself. So, face people with confidence, knowing that they are the least knowledgeable about you. Sometimes, your family may not have socialized much and that can also give you a disadvantage about mixing and meeting people. This can be unlearned and you can make a new beginning and easily become a social butterfly. Many people have hesitations about social situations and are in the same boat: you have a lot of company. The bottom line is that you have fear: deal with your fear and people will seem different, and not so threatening. This ability is a natural ability in all of us. If it was not stimulated early in your life, now is not too late. We are all gregarious by nature, and need each other, to the extent that we are all interdependent. I recommend that you attend a personality development course, attend the Toastmasters Club, and meet people by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings, and social clubs. In time this anxiety will dissipate and disappear, completely.

Women like men to follow them about as it boosts their ego. But if a relationship has to last then you need to understand that there must be reciprocation.

Its difficult to diagnose on the basis of symptoms you have described. It can due to depression or there might be some other cause. You should consult an expert to determine this.

Hi lybrate-user pl do the needful try these five tips to manage your cough at home: stay hydrated. An upper respiratory tract infection like a cold or flu causes postnasal drip. Try lozenges and hot drinks. Try a menthol cough drop, yoder suggests. Take steamy showers, and use a humidifier. A hot shower can help a cough by loosening secretions in the nose. Pl let me know if you need any help.

Dear lybrate user. You don't have to take any medicines. You quit smoking. Immediately your body starts repairing your longs and other organs. Let your body do it. In the meanwhile you can help enhance the process. Include good amount of fruits and fruit juices in your diet. Also make sure you do a lot of physical exercise and take part in outdoor games. Take care.

I am 62 and having mild depression all the years more accurately Dyspepsia since the age of 26. Taking antidepressants since 1979 presently taking cipralex 10 mg and Mirtaz 15 but not of much help unless I engage myself in some office job. What to do?

I am sure you may not have done this: work with a counselor too. S/he will guide you to work on several other related issues to help you walk through life and handle every day routines very effectively. It is not enough to rely only on medication. In fact, this is the only condition were you are required to literally do the opposite of what you feel like doing. Depression makes you want to withdraw, lie down, sleep, become lethargic, slow down, make you too lazy to even think etc. So when I suggested doing the opposite, you will need to fight this disease. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, and wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch a lot of sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings too. You need to do whatever is feasible for your age by consulting a doctor. Even so, the pace may be more suitable for your constitution.
