Sir my teeth are of little pale colour. Im using hydrogen as mouthwash for one minute before brushing. Can you tell me some treatment to get white teeth?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

The condition is called OSMF and can be treated Chairside by using lasers. Also there are other modalities like intralesional injections available. But basically you will have to discontinue with the habbit first of eating ghutka.

Is that bleaching is good for teeth? Basically when your enamel layer of teeth is not strong Nd intrinsic stain on your teeth is showing.

BDS
Dentist, Ghaziabad
Bleaching has no harmful effects on your health. Wether bleaching can b done or not depends on your dentition condition. Haan you might feel sensitivity post bleaching but that can b overcome by sensitivity toothpastes.

BDS
Dentist, Kharagpur
If it is unbearable pain and you want to secure your tooth then rct is only one option. Otherwise go for extraction. Now a days modern techniques of rct are available. So curing is too much fast.

Is it right for the dentist to straightway start the RCT without verifying the requirement of taking X-Ray? Isn't the dentist supposed to confirm that RCT is complete by taking X-Ray and co-relate the result of the operation he had carried out?

MDS Prosthodontics, MDS Endodontist
Dentist, Ahmedabad
Cases where dentist avoid taking x-ray 1. To avoid exposure to patient mainly children or pregnant women. 2. Where clinically dentist find tooth decay affecting pulp but not root. 3. At the time of rct if dentist has well computerised equipment like apex locator and he/she feel confident of their treatment they may avoid taking x ray. So dentists are not taking x-ray every time, to prevent radiation hazards as much as possible. But if your problem persist than you can ask your dentist to take an x ray.

•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.

I am suffering from mouth ulcers. Please tell me the treatment for this. What I have to do?

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Get a check up done from a dentist to rule out any local irritants like a sharp cusp of tooth, ill fitting dentures etc. Even deficiency of vitamin c vitamin b 12 can cause ulcers. Stress is also one of the cause. Once local factors are ruled out, he will suggest you some medications for the same. For further details, you may consult me.

Painkiller are a temporary solution. If your teeth is paining, it can be due to decay which has reached the nerve endings. Get your teeth x-rayed to determine the extent of damage done by the decay. Depending on it, you might require rct or removal of teeth.

Diabetes and Dental Care

MDS - Periodontics
Dentist, Thane
Diabetes and Dental Care

If you have diabetes, make sure you take care of your mouth. People with diabetes are at risk for mouth infections, especially periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease can damage the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place and may lead to painful chewing problems.

The good news is you can keep your teeth and gums healthy. By controlling your blood glucose, brushing and flossing every day, and visiting a dentist regularly, you can help prevent serious problems in your mouth

Flossing is as important as brushing on a daily basis. Taking the floss all the way down to the point where the teeth and gums meet is the appropriate way of doing it.

Teeth Grinding

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Teeth Grinding
Grinding your teeth or clenching your jaws? it's called bruxism, and often it happens as you sleep and is often caused by stress.

Teeth grinding can be caused not just by stress and anxiety but by sleep disorders, an abnormal bite or teeth that are missing or crooked. The symptoms of teeth grinding include:

Dull headaches
Jaw soreness
Teeth that are painful or loose
Fractured teeth
Your dentist can fit you with a mouth guard to protect your teeth during sleep. In some cases, your dentist or physician may recommend taking a muscle relaxant before bedtime. If stress is the cause you need to find a way to relax. Meditation, counseling and exercise can all help reduce stress and anxiety.

Teeth grinding is also common in children. However, because their teeth and jaws change and grow so quickly it is not usually a damaging habit that requires treatment and most outgrow it by adolescence.

Although in adults teeth grinding is often the result of stress, the same is not always true with children. Other possible causes of teeth grinding in children include:

Irritation in the mouth
Allergies
Misaligned teeth

Keep smiling
Be happy
