Hye. Thanks for the query. Maintaining body weight is not a one time effort that you try, succeed or fail or drop the actions that take you there. You are what you eat. Your weight is nothing but a balance of how much you eat and how much you burn or exercise. Understanding this art of balance will make it easy to maintain your body weight. Walking, swimming, strength training as well as eating are all calorie burning processes. Along with this if you eat sensibly; then you will see the scales move. There is no short cut to losing weight. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals.     Reduce your main meals by a small amount. Take a glass of lime water 10minutes before meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed.                        Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing.     It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called fad, crash diets, medicines, pills or supplements will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, lose that fat not muscle mass.

1. Use mild shampoo to wash hair (you can make your own shampoo using reetha and shikakai at home) 2. Stop using conditioners. Use natural conditioners like egg, yougurt and lemon. 3. Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5. Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6. Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7. You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8. You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain ph balance of your hair. 9. Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them. Eat things rich in vitamin c like amla and oranges. 10. Drink lots of water to flush out toxins from the body.

Dear , panic disorder is due to some underlying anxiety disorder. I am glad that you are able to manage your panic disorder and your underlying anxiety. Dear Lybrate user, Thank you for contacting us. It sounds like you are troubled by a lot of negative thoughts which you can't seem to get out of your mind. What is good is you realize they are after all just thoughts. It is not an easy thing to change the way you think, but it is possible. Try to observe - without judging - what is going on in your mind. Try to investigate these thoughts. It takes some time and practice to be able to see thoughts for what they are - just thoughts. After a while you might notice they don't have as much power over you anymore. It also sounds like you are taking way too much responsibility for other people's happiness. You can't make anyone else happy. Only they themselves can do that. It is never going to happen that no one will ever get hurt for anything, and it's not your responsibility to make sure they're not. Try to care as much, or more, for yourself as you do for others. Be gentle towards yourself. If you feel like you need to talk to someone, seeing a psychologist in Pune might help. Mindfulness practices such as compassion meditation might also help you to be more grounded and loving towards yourself. I hope this was helpful for you. If you have any further comments or concerns, please feel free to contact us again. All the best!

Ways To Deal With Acute Coronary Syndrome

DM - Cardiology, MD - Medicine, MBBS
Cardiologist, Bangalore
Ways To Deal With Acute Coronary Syndrome

The word acute coronary syndrome refers to a group of symptoms that are caused by blockage of the blood flow to the heart muscles.  The most common result of this is myocardial infarction or heart attack as it is popularly called. Reduced blood flow leads to death of some portion of the heart muscle wall. While the word heart attack sounds almost fatal, it need not be the case. Knowing how to identify an attack and being aware of some simple measures can help save lives.

Symptoms
The tell tale signs of a heart attack are as follows:

  • Chest pain and discomfort usually described as a tightness or burning in the chest region
  • Pain along the left side of the shoulder and neck, going up into the jaw, down to the arm
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Profuse sweating
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Dizzy or fuzzy feeling
  • Tired, extreme fatigue
  • Anxious, apprehensive feeling

However, be also aware that there are a lot of people who experience a silent heart attack. Women, obese, elderly, and diabetic patients can have silent attacks and depending on severity, either they go on with life as usual or can have a fatal attack.

Diagnosis
Once you are doubtful of a heart attack, the next step is to reach the closest medical facility for a diagnosis.  In addition to a detailed examination and history, the following two tests will be performed.

  1. Electrocardiogram (ECG): A 12-lead ECG will measure electrical activity of the heart and identify irregular electrical activity, which is indicative of a myocardial infarction.
  2. Blood tests:  Presence of certain enzymes in the blood, CK-MB and troponin are indicative of a heart attack.  A complete electrolyte profile also will be done, and increase or decrease of some electrolytes is helpful in diagnosing a heart attack.
  3. In addition to these two, chest radiography, cardiac angiography, echocardiogram, stress test, and computed coronary tomography may also be required to confirm the diagnosis.

Management
Once diagnosed, the first step would be to relieve the symptoms, negate the effects of reduced blood flow, and restore cardiac function.

  1. Dissolve the clot: Using thrombolytics like clopidogrel
  2. Nitroglycerin: To dilate the blood vessels and improve blood flow, especially to the heart muscles
  3. Anticoagulant therapy: Blood thinners are usually used to avoid blood clot formation; aspirin and heparin are the most commonly used agents.
  4. Drug therapy: Blood pressure maintaining drugs like beta blockers and/or angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are also used
  5. Use of Statins: Statins are used to reduce the amount of cholesterol in the blood and stabilize plaque deposits.

In very severe cases, angioplasty and stenting or coronary bypass surgery may be required. Educating people on how to identify a heart attack and manage it is very useful and can help save lives.
