Don't worry. It was a safe period. Breast feeding might cause irregular cycle. Wait for a week. If no period do urine pregnancy test. If negative safely wait for 15 days more. Postmenstrually visit a gynac for effective contraception. Think and discuss about copper t insertion.

Thick white discharge is nothing but cervical mucus which is expelled first in the process of delivery. This means that any time your labor will start.

Hello lybrate-user, PCOD is Hormonal imbalance disorder & Lifestyle disorder too. Avoid such type of home remedies. Avoid junk, fast food. Eat healthy, home made satvik food. Do reular exercise (brisk walking, jogging, or swimming) atleast for 45 minutes. Do regular Pranayam yoga. Take your meals on time. Don't skip your breakfast. With the help of few excellent ayurvedic medicines & Panchkarm therapies you will definitely get rid of Pcod. You need a proper management. You also need to check all the required tests. For any help you can email me.

Hi, my wife 19 th month pregnant. We did anomaly scanning. All d report normal. But amniotic fluid index moderately reduced. In first two scan amniotic fluid index normal. But in 19 th week amniotic fluid reduced. So is it safe or what? How to increase amniotic fluid index. So is it normal or what?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,

When pregnancy occurs along with the baby, a structure named placenta is formed. This placenta is the one which forms the amniotic fluid. The baby passes urine which also maintains the amniotic fluid volume. So if the amniotic fluid is reduced it means there could be a problem with the placental function or baby's kidneys or both. Anomaly scan determines structure of a baby and its organs, even if it is normal it cannot say anything about function. It is better to take medicines to improve the amniotic fluid and if it does, to keep it in normal limits. If the amniotic fluid goes down further, to become severe oligohydramnios, at times it is an indication to terminate the pregnancy. So keep a watch and ask your wife to take 2.5 liters of water daily along with emdicines prescribed by your gynecologist.

You perform repeat pregnancy test with early morning sample of urine at home. Now if the second line is dark, pregnancy is confirmed. If again that line is weak, you consult a doctor.

Gestational Diabetes - Know Its Causes and Treatments

Gestational Diabetes - Know Its Causes and Treatments

Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes where the blood sugar levels of the body increase during pregnancy. When you are expecting, your body is more repellent to insulin so that a larger amount of glucose is manufactured for the baby’s nourishment. However, this excess blood glucose can build up within the body which causes gestational diabetes. This can lead to health problems for both the mother and the baby. At the end of the gestational period i.e. once the baby is delivered, blood sugar reduces to normal.

When are you at a risk for gestational diabetes?

  1. Gestational diabetes can also be hereditary. If a family member or a relative has diabetes, you are more likely to develop gestational diabetes.
  2. If you are overweight, you are more susceptible to developing gestational diabetes.

What causes gestational diabetes?

During pregnancy, the placenta connects your baby to the blood supply. This produces other hormones which reduce the levels of insulin. This increases the level of blood sugar in your blood. As your baby develops, your body manufactures more of such hormones which block your insulin levels leading to gestational diabetes. This usually occurs from the 20th week of your pregnancy.

Complications:

  1. Increase in Birth Weight – Extra glucose crosses through the placenta which instigates the baby’s pancreas to manufacture more insulin. This can make your baby very large. Sometimes, it becomes difficult for the baby to pass through the birth canal during childbirth as a result.
  2. Premature Birth and Respiratory Diseases – High blood sugar may increase the risk of an early labor. It may make the baby due before the 37th week of pregnancy. This also makes the baby more susceptible to respiratory disorders.
  3. High Blood Pressure – Gestational diabetes also raises your risks for high blood pressure. This can be fatal for you as well as your baby’s health.

Treatment:

  1. Book an appointment with a dietitian and follow a healthy eating schedule. Limit the amount of carbohydrates and ensure you have a healthy and balanced meal.
  2. Do light exercises regularly during pregnancy. This helps you to control your blood sugar level. Physical activities which require low levels of energy utilization such as swimming and walking will control your blood sugar level without exerting you too much.
  3. Taking insulin shots and medicine for diabetes will also control your blood sugar levels if you have a pre-existing condition. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Hi I am taking Novelon 21 day pill from june. Missed second last doubled with the last, break of 6 days from 2-7 july. Menses from 5-7july. New pack from 8th july. Protected intercourse but condom used thrice on 9th july (first timw intercourse) Next fully protected on 14th july (last intercourse) Missed 21st july pill doubled 22nd july night. Light bleeding on 22nd july morning (breakthrough bleed or implantation bleed?) Pill ended on 28th july menses from 1-6 aug. Negative hpt at 4,5,6,7,8,11,12 weeks all negative hpt done with first morning urine with different brands. No pills or intercourse after 1-6aug. Periods due on 1st sept as it dint came did a usg and hcg beta on 8th sept (10 weeks from first and 9 weeks from last intercourse) Hcg was 0.11 and usg shows pcod (no mention of pregnancy) Dr. Prescribed deviry 2 tab for 5 days for withdrawal bleed. But after taking just a single dose bleeding started from 11-16th sept. It was heavy. On 21st sept morning when I woke up I can feel my pelvic bone in the front (can it be due to exercises like crunches leg rise etc with weight loss? I was 72 in july 70 in aug and now I am almost 68 kgs) and after continuous touching I made it hurt. Scared went for usg on 21st sept (12 weeks ftom first and 11 weeks from lasr intercourse) Usg only showed bulky ovaries with pcod. I asked him if my uterus was normal he said its absolutely normal. Usg was transabdominal Have taken an hpt with first morning urine at almost 12 weeks 6 days. And its negative. Can their still be risk of pregnancy? My menses was due on 11th october and it is now delayed by 7 days. I did not have any intercourse after 14th july. M not experiencing any pms symptoms Is their any risk of pregnancy? Do I need to redo hpt or BHCG test? M I 100% safe from pregnancy? Can BHCG be wrong after 2 months and was 11-16sept my natural period? M having shortness of breath too. Is this due to stress or is it pregnancy related?

MBBS, DGO
Obstetrician, Mumbai

lybrate-user, do not panic at all. Every problem has a solution. So please do not over stress. You said your usg showed PCOD picture. This is one of the main reasons for your irregular menses. Beta hcg values in case of pregnancy increase exponentially. Just out of fear no need to immediately do BHCG. Urine pregnancy test comes positive after 4-6 weeks of last period. So do not be worried. For PCOD, you need lifestyle modification which consists of proper diet, exercise and stress free life. This will regularise your menstruation. You need other few tests as well to rule out other conditions.
