I am 70 years suffering from cervical spondlytus. Done physiotherpy, kerala massage, accupunture besides consulted for allopathic doctors who prescribed pain killer medicines. I avoided these medicines. Have no relief. Can you suggest me any effective ayuvedic medicine. In morning I do some kneck exercises. Please advice.

Hello, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your neck pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset. I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any radiating upper limb pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias ( electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Hello, Kindly follow advises given below 1.Avoid using computers continuously, take rest for 5 min after working for half an hour 2. In pain free interval do neck exercise (kindly learn exercise by registered Trainer) 3. you can use thin pillow while sleeping so that normal posture of neck can be maintained 4.Maintain proper posture of body while watching TV/ studying Kindly go for cervical X ray AP and lateral and review with reports Consult Physician for Further Management

Hi lybrate-user you need to take physiotherapy your back muscles are weak so strengthen it .do back strengthen exercises daily and hot fermentation daily 15 min twice a day take care.

IFT for 10 days @ 15 min Ultrasonic therapy @ 12 min x 15 days use Ice compress by cool back use shoulder Immobilizer rest no gym for 3 years when pain is reduced do shoulder girdle exercise avoid movements now use Mentho plus balm of Emami.

put your foot in hot water for a while for pain in foot.and You can control cholesterol / hdl / ldl/t.g. and obesity by using following flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take . green veg., whole grain foods, spicy foods, Use GARLIC in foods daily ,. Cod liver oil. Low sugar foods, low calories foods. Change own life style . do meditation,yoga, Go walk daily in morning and evening, do any one physically activity daily i.e. play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, alcohol,smoking, fatty foods, non-veg., avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. one important that is take 1 glass of water before bed at night. Age 51 years male. Slip disc happened jan'2010 and get to normal after 4 years doing only exercise till now and used lumbo scrarol belt when out of home. Due to filling uneasy during walking, a tmt brace protocol suggested. Is it ok to do the test.

Lumbar brace support is not recommended for you. Stop immediately to used it otherwise it will weaken your back muscles. And consult with spine surgeon.

Kindly show me photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Kindly take biod3 max 1 tab dailyx10 paracetamol 250mg od & sos x5days do back (spine)/shoulder/knee exercises make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take do not ignore it. It could be beginning of a serious problem. If no relief in 4_5 days, then contact me again.

Avoid long walk, sitting cross position, lifting heavy weight. Do knee joint strengthening exercises. Avoid vata Kara ahara vihara. Wear knee cap, hot water fomentation, oil massage reduce the knee pain.

Back Pain - 3 Ways To Prevent It!

Back pain is one of the most common debilitating disorder in the world today. The pain affects 90% of people at some point of their lives. Human back comprises of various structures (see figure) which are nerves, bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons, any or all of which can be a source of pain. Once back pain occurs, it may become chronic (more than 4 weeks) and you shall need to consult a pain physician for relief and accurate diagnosis.

Since prevention is always better than cure,  you can save yourself from having back pain if you follow these basic tips:

  1. Regular Exercise in Correct Form: Regular exercise is important to maintain proper muscular strength of the back. Human back is supported by several big muscle groups (see figure). They serve two functions - one is to facilitate the posture and movements of the back itself and the other is to help movements of the rest of the body appendages (arms, head, pelvis and legs).The health of these muscle group is important to take stress off the spinal bones and maintain proper function. Most of these muscles are red muscle fibers as they need to maintain their activity for prolonged periods of time. Just to give you an idea - your biceps (arm muscles) have to work only when you bend your arm. But your back muscles have to function all the time - whether you sit, walk, stand or even sleep. But the point is what kind of exercises are good for your back? The best exercises for back include body weight low impact aerobics like brisk walking, swimming, stationary bicycling, extension exercises and yoga. What is important to remember while doing these exercises if that you need to be gentle in your movements and achieve correct "form" - this is possible if you can ask someone (preferably a trainer) to observe and point out whether the back stays straight during the exercise. It has been seen that arching and excessive bending is associated with injury to the back while exercising.

  2. Stay Hydrated and Eat Natural Nutritious diet:The inter vertebral discs contain 70 - 80% water. The muscles and tissues have 60% water content. Therefore, it is important to stay hydrated. In addition, you must eat a nutritious diet consisting of green leafy vegetables, good protein source and just enough carbohydrates. Deficiencies of essential nutrients like Vitamin D can result in diseases like osteoporosis. Another important aspect is to maintain body weight within healthy limits. This is very important as increased belly fat is linked to increased back pain due to mechanical factors.

  3. Lift objects correctly and maintain proper posture: While lifting objects, keep them as close to body as possible. Do not slouch or bend excessively while lifting. Just keep your back straight at all times. You may bend your knees a little if required (see figure). Think before you lift and get help if needed.

While working, you must not sit for more than 45 minutes at a stretch. Walk for two minutes, go to a colleague's desk and say hi or even just drink some water or visit the washroom. Humans evolved as hunter - gatherers and our bodies are more adapted to walking / standing than to sitting for prolonged periods. Those of you who travel more and have to sit for long periods of time also need to follow above tips - avoid prolonged sitting in same posture.While exercising, improper position can do more harm than good. Therefore, proper form and posture is a must.

Bonus tip: Avoid cigarette smoking and those who smoke cigarettes to decrease your chances of having degenerative disc diseases leading to chronic back pain early in life. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pain Management Specialist.

Pain could be due to injury, muscle cramps or dehydration. But on a safer note, consult a physician/surgeon to rule out other rare causes like hernia or torsion

Good evening, lybrate-user every fracture need not be addressed especially at age of 65, if fracture is not producing pain you can just ignore it, if it is painful we need to do something for that.

Hello , we have to rule out this type of pain through investigation (xray or mri. It may be due to piriformis syndrome or lumber disc prolapse. *initially you have to take rest as much as you can. *place pillow under your knees while sleeping. *lying on bed which is firm (not too hard and not too soft) *take calcium rich diet and sun bath daily to prevent further damage to your joints. *avoid heavy lifting. *avoid excessive rotational activities, forward bending etc. *perform some gentle exercises and stretching of all joints. *walk straight with shoulder protracted. I will explain you stiffness and pain reducing techniques in the next session. Wish you a happy and pain free life thanks.

I had torn my knee ACL partially 6 years back. After rehab and strengthening it for 4 months I started playing football again and in the last 3 Years I have done a lot of knee and legs strengthening exercises and never experienced any pain even when I lifted heavy weights on back and front squats. I also kept playing football every now and then but wasn't very regular. Now a few weeks back I started playing football twice every weekend and on the second day I felt a littler jerk in my knee. There was a little pain but that went away in the weekdays and I was able to play on Saturday and Sunday again. But on Sunday I felt that jerk again. Thought it would be best to get it checked out. I had gotten a knee MRI done in December and the doctor told me that its a little torn but if there is no pain I can continue playing and working out. Took the same MRI to another doctor and he told me that I need to get a surgery done and that's the only way to fix this. My question is this- what if I don't get the surgery done? Can I continue playing football? Is there another way to fix this. Are there other things I should try before I get the surgery done? How long is the rehab process post surgery. Will I be bed ridden etc. Please help. Thanks.

You must have torn your acl completely this time since you had a jerk twice and you are experiencing instability in the knee joint and thats why you are not able to play football. You should get another mri of knee and see a sports injury specialist. If there is complete acl tear and you want to play football then you need to get acl reconstructive surgery.
