Dear , you don't need any medicines. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Take care.

And lots of negative thoughts and also speech problem but now its not regular as I think I am recovering. But I have long history of OCD problem and negative thoughts some time I want to hurt myself and anger management issues. I just want to clarify is I am okay any special diet not to get infected again by tapeworm .is I am ridd off them now? Some advice of my negativity and ocd nd mental problems. Dear lybrate-user, You have 2 disorders - one is seizure and headache, due to tape worm. You have dewormed your self with noworm. You are also on eptoin to control fits occurring again. Depending on the type of worm, you should avoid eating pork or beef in future. I am not sure about tingling and numbness. Please get a MRI brain scan to see whether tape worm cysts have disappeared fully. Another is your OCD, which might be before tapeworm itself. OCD causes depression, negative thoughts, weakness, anger, fell like hurting self, etc. OCD also needs treatment. Please go to a psychiatrist and take independent treatment for OCD along with eptoin 300.

If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

I am too depressed as I am in a relationship in which he black mails me ki me tumhe badnaam kerduga papa ko goli maarduga he is vry powerful I am depressed I have attempted suicide also no one is there to share my feelings as my parents expectations are high from me I don't wanna broke them I feel sometimes I need a psychiatrist but don't I feel is it I am mental or what? Please advise.

M.Sc - Applied Psychology
Psychologist, Bangalore
Hi, you seem to be in an abusive relationship and it, obviously is having very negative impact on you. He is using your fears regarding your image in your parents eyes as a weakness and blackmailing you. This behaviour will become worse with time. You need to talk to your parents or helpful siblings who can help you. Why it's important to involve your parents is firstly, your fears will be addressed, secondly, being elders they will be able to help you more sensibly. Yes there is every possibility of your parents getting angry with you but their anger may not last long because they love you and want the best for you. Putting up with your parents anger is better than going through this abusive relationship with your boyfriend which may have long-lasting impact over your mental health and future relationships. If you have other trusted family members who can help you in this, you can take their help too if parental help is not an option for you. Take care.

Mood Disorders - Know the Common Types!

Mood Disorders - Know the Common Types!

Mood disorders are common psychological problems that affect a vast portion of the human populace all over the world every year. These occur when there is a shift or imbalance in a person's psyche which affects his or her daily function and interpersonal relations in varying degrees. Each individual is affected by these conditions in a different capacity and responds to them in a distinct manner.

Mood disorders generally manifest themselves as fluctuations in a person's temperament. It is triggered by various factors. These mental illnesses range from mild to severe, the latter requiring urgent psychological counseling and treatment. A mild condition may even develop into a painful and chronic one without any form of remedial intervention.

What are the most common types of mood disorders?

There are many distinctive categories of mood disorders that can affect a person. The most commonly occurring ones are as follows:

  1. Major depressive disorder
  2. Bipolar disorder
  3. Dysthymia
  4. Cyclothymia
  5. Seasonal affective disorder (sad)

Major depression is the most frequently occurring type of mood disorder. It causes mental and emotional turmoil, as well as physical anguish. Those affected by it may experience a single episode in isolation or multiple episodes over a period of time. The milder version of this condition is known as dysthymia.

Bipolar disorder is a comparatively rare condition that causes alternating states of extreme mania and depression. It is also known as manic-depressive illness. The mild version of this is called cyclothymia.

Seasonal affective disorder or sad is a depressive disorder that is known to affect those living in colder climes. It is caused generally by the lack of warmth and light, the onset of which begins in late autumn and lasts till the end of winter.

What causes a mood disorder?

Mood disorders are very difficult to diagnose as they can be caused by an assortment of triggers and the symptoms are not always apparent. This is particularly true in the case of dysthymia and cyclothymia.

Some of the usual factors that lead to mood disorders are:

  1. Chronic stress and anxiety
  2. Anomalies in the functioning of the nervous system
  3. Prolonged periods of isolation
  4. Genetics
  5. Childhood abuse and trauma
  6. Ineffectual coping mechanisms
  7. Insufficient nourishment/malnutrition

In most cases, a combination of multiple factors usually leads to the development of mood disorders and other mental illnesses. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychiatrist.

After 12th pass I am not anymore interested in studies what r the reasons behind this?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Whenever I start studying I feel sleepy and so I can not do my study well. What to do to get concentrated on studies? It is obvious that you are not interested in your studies because it may not be suitable to your aptitude. Please meet with a career guidance counselor and do some tests that will also determine what your natural skills are and then choose an appropriate career and course. It may also be that you have studied these topics already right through the year and find it very boring to do it all over again. You may be just sleep deprived! Perhaps you are not exercising enough everyday! Look into all of these matters and deal with it in an appropriate fashion. In fact every time you feel sleepy, just get up and do some jumping jacks and it will wake you up. If you are feeling sleepy, do some written work. In the worst case scenario, you may have some tea or coffee and that will perk you up. Never have too much carbohydrate meals before studying, it will make you drowsy. In terms of concentration here are a few guidelines: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive or coconut oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that you and the family go for counseling too.
