When I sit for reading than I get distracted from my mind. Please solutions my problem.?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Obviously something is troubling you and it is causing much distraction. If you are young your hormones may cause a lot of disturbance to take you away from your focus. If your level of stress is too much it can affect your memory. Although concentration is different to memory, they can affect each other. Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night?s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling.

Dear Lybrate user, Anger and aggression are emotions. Anger comes when you become irritated. Irritation happens when you don't like something, or when something is repeated. As anger is an emotion, it should be vent out. You should be able to throw anger out instead of controlling it. But more perfect will be, know the frustrating situations and stop being emotional. If practiced properly, you will not get irritated at those circumstances at all. Those techniques are much easier to understand. Take care.

10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings. If you find answer helpful please click on “helpful” tab for knowing my efforts are useful CONCENTRATION TIPS Here’s some tips to get into a state of deep concentration where work / or studies flow easily so that you can do well in examinations/ and or do your work well. 1) Cut Off the Noise Getting into a state of concentration can take at least fifteen minutes. If you are getting distracted every five, you can’t possibly focus entirely on your work. Request that people don’t interrupt you when working on a big project. If you are required to answer phones and drop-in’s immediately, schedule work when the office is less busy. 2) Structure Your Environment The place you work can have an impact on your ability to focus. Try to locate yourself so you are facing potential distractions such as doors, phones or windows. This way you can take a glance to assess sounds that would otherwise break your focus. 3) Clarify Objectives Know what your goal is clearly before you start. If you aren’t sure what the end result is, the confusion will make it impossible to focus. 4) Divide Blobs. If you have a large project that needs work, clearly identify a path that you will use to get started working on it. If the sequence of actions isn’t obvious, it will be difficult to concentrate. Taking a few minutes to plan not only your end result, but the order you will complete any steps, can save hours in wasted thinking. 5) Know the Rules Get clear on what the guidelines are for the task ahead. What level of quality do you need? What standards do you need to follow? What constraints are there? If the rules aren’t clear from the outset, you will slip out of concentration as you ponder them later. 6) Set a Deadline Deadlines have both advantages and disadvantages when trying to force concentration. A deadline can make it easier to forget the non-essential and speed up your working time. If you give yourself only an hour to design a logo, you will keep it simple and avoid fiddling with extravagant designs. Time limits have disadvantages when they cause you to worry about the time you have left instead of the task itself. 7) Break down Roadblocks Roadblocks occur whenever you hit a tricky problem in your work. This can happen when you run out of ideas or your focus wavers. Break down roadblocks by brainstorming or planning on a piece of paper. Writing out your thought processes can keep you focused even if you might become frustrated. 8) Isolate Yourself Become a hermit and stay away from other people if you want to get work done. Unless your work is based on other people they will only break your focus. Create a private space and refuse to talk to anyone until your work is finished. Put a sign on your door to steer away drop-ins and don’t answer your phone. 9) Healthy Body, Sharper Mind What you put into your body affects the way you concentrate. Nobody would expect peak performance if they showed up drunk to work. But if you allow yourself to get chronic sleep deprivation, overuse stimulants like caffeine or eat dense, fatty foods your concentration will suffer. Try to cut out one of your unhealthy habits for just thirty days to see if there is a difference in your energy levels. I’ve found even small steps can create dramatic changes in my ability to focus. 10) Be Patient Before I write an article, I often sit at my desk for a fifteen or twenty minutes before I put finger on the keyboard. During this time I feel a strong urge to leave or do something else. But I know that if I am patient, I’ll stumble upon an idea to write about and enter a state of flow. Without a little patience, you can’t take advantage of flow when it rushed through you. If you need strong concentration I recommend periods of 90-120 minutes. Any less than that and you will waste too much time getting started before the flow can continue. More than this is possible to sustain focus, but you will probably benefit from a quick break.

I am on antidepressants from the last 6 years. I take lamitor, bupron, fluvoxin and modalert daily as prescribed by my doctor. It has provided me some improvement but the the issue it not completely resolved. The main problem is with the memory. Out of 7 days in a week around 3 days I find difficult to remember things for example my batch mate name. The day I do not take the medicine I keep forgetting after every 5 minutes. There is no mental stress in my life, therefore I don't know what exactly is the root cause. I have heard that mental stress might not be the only reason for depression. Even if it is depression I have never heard it to be linked with memory loss. I am a researcher in genomics and I do fell that some further research in this field could give some explanation. I daily do yoga where I daily put a few drops of medicated badam oil in my nose and as soon as I use it my mind feels relaxed. If I miss my medicine or do not use the oil, the memory loss becomes very evident. May me the oil has something to do with neurotransmitters. Earlier I took only fluoxetine for a couple of years but when I shifted to my present medicines, I found a drastic improvement but now it has become stagnant. Is there some better cure.

Hi, I'm Male 26 and I have been experiencing depression and anxiety since 5 months. I had a trauma in my life which I could not get out of my head. It was related to my career. I lost my job in Nov 2017 due to demoralization and that put me into shock because I did not have any backup at that point of time. I got so depressed and I even had suicide tendencies. I had serious health issues that time which included heart palpitation, vomiting, headache, anxiety, dizziness etc. I did not consult any Doctor for the same as I myself took control over all the problems. I used to get a feeling of being in such a rush like the world is gonna end the very next day. I was running after my career because I had lots of responsibilities on my shoulders. I'm engaged and I used to think about that a lot. I have gotten a new job now and I'm satisfied with it but I still get the weird feeling. I feel so low, I am unable to focus on things properly, I was the person who used to talk to people so much but now I don't feel like talking to them. I sometimes fumble while speaking. Please suggest what needs to be done to get it right. Will really much appreciate that. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for writing in, welcome to the forum. What you are describing seems to be a partially remitted form of a psychological condition. Many a time, these partially remitted forms remit completely on their own or in many, they tend to become chronic. The latter can get problematic. Therefore, a psychiatric evaluation is certainly in order. I am quite confident that your previous, normal personality will be restored with appropriate intervention. Take care!

Dear lybrate-user, if you are mentally strong already, then the following meditation technique will surely help you to alleviate anxiety symptoms n focus within. Sit down with at least half an hour aside in a place where no body disturbs you for that period of time. Then start with simple inhale - Exhale of breaths. Inhale with nose, Exhale through mouth with gush of air. To increase the gush, purse your lips in the manner like you are whistling. Follow Inhale with count of 4 - hold for 4 seconds - Exhale with count of 4. Keep the focus on your breath. Do this process for 10 times. Then return to normal slow deep breathing for few seconds. Till now you will mostly relaxed. Now visualise that you are standing on the shore of a Tranquil Lake and are viewing and experiencing the serenity of the calm waters. Overhead a bful Dove is circling around you and the breeze is softly touching your body relaxing it further. And with this you see soft Golden and Silver particles gently swirling in a cone shape above you. And these particles slowly descend upon your crown, cleansing aligning and uplifting you and your Higher Self along with chakras. Let the particles enter your body and cleanse it of residual energies of the past and present and prepare you become stronger and firm. And let particles swirl away from toe to crown and with it it takes away all the anxieties, tensions, disaapointments, and all negative or non supportive energies or thoughts with you, to the Universe n transmute them. Pray to your Inner Voice to give you Loud n clear guidance all ways. Stay Silent for at least 5 mins. Open your eyes.

I want to quite smoke. But iam not able to do this. Please help me to live as non smoker.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

Habitual smoking or chain smoking increases the Tar content in our lungs thus decreasing our lungs Air spaces called Alveolar sacs.Due to this decrease in air spaces,we cant exert much as our lungs cant carry more volumes of air due to decreased lung spaces. This leads to shortness of breath when we exert thus loosing our stamina. So to increase stamina, the first and foremost thing a chain smoker should do is ti quit smoking cigrattes and start doing morning cardio exercises or breathing exercises to increase lung spaces. It sounds very easy but my friend it is not that easy as it requires a lot of Determination and will power because you will have to face a lot of challenges while quitting this habit and you must have to be head strong.Once you quit your smoking habit, the things will automatically becomes easy for you. Homoeopathic medicine DAPHNE INDICA 1X( Wilmar Schwabe India) Chew 2 tab 3 times daily AVENA SATIVA Q ( Dr RECKEWEG) Drink 20 drops in 20 ml fresh water twice daily To start with start early morning Brisk walking for 30 minutes and breathing deep while walking. Dear Lybrate user, At your age, Memory problems like amnesia are not common. Many young people are having problems with memory. These problems are either they are too busy or due to anxiety and stress. Busy people use organizers or employ a personal assistant because they can't remember every task. You need to understand this. If you still say, you are having memory problems, we need to check your memory using memory test. If you want more of my help in this regard, please contact me. Take care.

Dear, You must be able to understand Concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions.

Dear lybrate user. I sincerely opine you should never allow your wife to be used by another person. In the mean time you should introspect. No women likes anal intercourse because such a intercourse only presents pain and no pleasure. You should talk to your wife about the vaginal intercourse and the pleasure involved and show her how pleasurable it is. She will surely accept. Take care.

Hello Lybrate friend, lybrate-user being straight forward is a very nice quality. But you cannot expect everyone to be the same. Acceptance and expectance are two very different things. Expectations are only in your head and more than often you will be disappointed because of your expectations. On the other hand acceptance can make your life pretty simple. Since everyone is different and we have no control over how the other person behaves all we can do is keep a check on ourselves. And being straightforward does not necessarily mean that every time you will have to offend someone else by speaking it out. We need to maintain a necessary peace in the society and always saying it out does not help. So just stay the way you are but only modify your straightforward behavior a little so that you don't end up offending anyone. That's all. Because you are too young to conclude so much about the life. Just keep calm and continue living. Surround yourself with more positive thoughts and keep working onthem and live a happy and fruitful life. Wish you all the best.

Dear lybrate-user. Every failure is stepping stone towards success. It is rightly said. Your scores are less not because you did not study. It is because your study pattern was not proper. The present depression and suicidal thoughts are normal and momentary. Ask yourself" what next" and prepare yourself for the next examination. Make a new study pattern. Take care.
