My genital area skin tone is too dark. Is there any remedy to get it lighter. I am feeling depressed.

Respected lybrate-user you cannot change it. Just focus on cleanliness & avoiding bacterial or other infection by using antiseptic soap for bathing & regular shaving of hair around genitals dear.

I am 43 years old male suffering from ocd from 10 years now my daughter 12 years old is affected by this disease please help me.

DNB, DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Systematic desensitization in the case of ocd, in vivo exposure is explicitly combined with response prevention, in which the patient agrees to not engage in compulsions or rituals designed to reduce anxiety when exposed to an object that elicits obsessional fears or designed to control feared harmful consequences. Imaginal exposure imaginal exposure typically involves having the patient close his or her eyes and imagine feared stimuli as vividly as possible. Imaginal exposure has two general uses. The primary use is to help patients confront feared thoughts, images, and memories. For example, individuals with ocd may experience obsessional thoughts and images about causing harm to people they love if you want more details. Let me know.

Hi Doc The concern is that I always have something or the other running in my mind and that keeps me unsettled all the time. If the things get over the board I am also not able to have a proper harden and it affects our Sex life big time. I want to know what exactly is it? Is there a medicinal cure what keeps my mind at rest?

You need to relax- over thinking is not good. Learn to take things easy. Anxiety will definitely affect your sex life and marriage. Adopt a healthy routine- eat healthy, drink lots of water, exercise everyday for 45 mins to 1 hour. Spend time with family and friends. You should have positive thinking, be optimistic about things. Don't expect from people- the more you think in terms of that people should behave in these ways only, and the more you try to change others, more you will be stressed. Look at the positives in others and have faith in yourself.

I am a 18 old male and have low memory power for last 3 months. What should I do.?

Dear , the best method to improve your concentration, memory power and recollection etc is to use your brain creatively again and again. Doing number puzzles, creative hobies like painting, games like chess etc can sharpen your brain and improve concentration. Exercise plays an important part in sharpening the brain and in many aspects of memory. Nutritious food including green vegetables, fruits, nuts, cereals and pulses are beneficial. Alcohol, nicotine, drugs, coffee, red meat etc are not that good for sharpening brain and memory power. Being happy and cheerful also contributes positively. You may ask a private question to me for more information. Take care.

First, get yourself evaluated by your physician for any underlying medical condition. If none, seek help from a qualified and trained psychologist for counselling/psychotherapy and relaxation training. It will be great help. Alternatively, also you do pranayaam as taught by baba ramdev daily on astha channel 5.00 to 7.30 am. Very very effective- esp anulom-vilom and bramri and udgit are a must. You will get miraculous results.

Dear lybrate user. This phenomenon is pretty common and there is nothing to worry. Not only you, everyone in your household are so because no one likes things going wrong. But if the depressive mood is more than normal you need counseling and life style changes. Your fear could be linked to your depressive mood and both could be due to anxiety disorder. Psychotherapy should help you. Take care.

This started in feb 2011 since I was having inferiority complex towards my short hight. Sometimes I felt like socially abused due to this .i developed social anxiety due to this .things related to hight or to improve it keeps running on my mind and I was unable to come out this. Latter I diagnosed as a case of OCD. Finally in july 2011 I admitted to the hospital due to depression and diagnosed as a case of bipolar disorder not of OCD. But those images of short people and thought related to my hight bothered me alot when I told this to doctors they told that it will go away with the time. Latter on situation improved and these thought and images gone away completely. I started living a normal life like others. Now these thoughts and images still comes but after many months and only for a week or two and then goes off automatically. This time after so many months (almost a year) it came back and bothering me lot. Now these image and thoughts keeps running on my mind so frequently that it intrupts daily routine .unable to focus on things like tv and alI. I am having problem with my sleep. It gets interrupted and I feel like frightened, anxious and wake up with little racing heartbeat. Pls help me doctor. How to stop these racing thoughts.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate-user, Such relapses and remissions are common in bipolar disorder. It you are on regular mood stabilisers, you will have longer period (more than a year) of normalcy. At present, you seem to be going in for a relapse. Please consult your psychiatrist and start taking other drugs along with mood stabilisers. Even without that, it will go away by itself. But you and your quality of life suffer due to it. So better to go for treatment.

I have anxiety issues and I am not able to get proper sleep , I always have a fear don't know about what but it is there so what should I do?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I don’t know if you are fully aware: you have mentioned that you are suffering from anxiety, which in itself can disturb your sleep. Instead of worrying too much about causes, why don’t you implement some of my suggestions, because they work effectively. The lack of sleep, i.e. Sleep for less than 6 hours per night, is directly linked to about 86 diseases! So let us first focus on that. In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.

Talking is really big task for me. I mean communicating on jobs and work is not a problem, but having a casual talks with friends, family is not my thing. I am always short of what to say, what to talk about. I also feel anxious when I am talking. And feel dat the other person is getting bored of hearing me. Coz many time people don' t even listen to what m saying like they are just ignoring. Gives me an inferiority complex. The only reason dat keeps me from mingling with people and having close friends. Can this be solved.

Homeopath,
Homeopathy is one of the most popular holistic systems of medicine. Homoeopathic medicine is mainly selected on the symptoms you give us. If we are to make a successful prescription, apart from the treatment through the remedies, a lot of counseling and appropriate diet regimen is required. Take care, god bless u, thnks you can take lyc 200 once a day for 4 days.

Whenever you feel nervous just take 10-12 deep breaths and calm down your mind. And start doing meditation too. This also helps in gaining confidence.

Sir please tell me anything to Sharp my brain power by which my brain can become sharp and active?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Your brain is like a muscle. You need to exercise it regularly. The exciting thing is that you don’t have to be a millionaire to increase your brain capacity. All you need to do is invest a little time to regularly train your brain. So what can you do? Here are 10 simple ways you can increase your brain power and improve your intelligence! 1. Do something new When you experience something ‘new’ you actually ‘stimulate’ your brain! Don’t get stuck in a rut doing the same old things – the only way to change the structure of your brain is to do something new. This creates new neural pathways, increasing your intelligence. You could take a new route to work, try a new recipe for dinner, or even a new form of exercise – mix it up! 2. Exercise regularly It’s been proven that regular exercise helps to increase brain function and enhances neurogenesis. This means that every time you exercise you are creating new brain cells! Get off the couch and get moving! Your brain will thank you for it :) 3. Train your memory How often do you hear people say “I wish I had a better memory?’ Yet no-one does anything about this! If you discipline yourself to memorise phone numbers and other important numbers (passport, credit card, insurance, driving license) you will start to see a marked improvement in your memory 4. Be curious Instead of taking everything at face value, get into the habit of questioning everyday things/products, services that you come into contact with. By being ‘curious’ and questioning everything, you force your brain to innovate & create new ideas. Curiosity may have killed that cat, more importantly it created super important things like electricity and computers! 5. Think positive Stress & anxiety kill existing brain neurons and also stop new neurons from being created. Research has shown that positive thinking, especially in the future tense, speeds up the creation of cells and dramatically reduces stress & anxiety. Try and get a handle on negative thoughts and make an effort to replace them with positive ones. 6. Eat healthy Our diets have a HUGE impact on brain function. Our brains consume over 20% of all nutrients & oxygen that we consume – so remember to feed your brain with the good stuff! (i.e. Fresh fruit and veg & plenty of OMEGA 3 oils found in oily fish) 7. Read a book Reading relieves tension & stress (brain-cell killers) because it’s a form of escapism. Research has also shown that using your imagination is a great way to train your brain because you force your mind to ‘picture’ what you are imagining. Reading is a great way to trigger your imagination! 8. Get enough sleep Sleep is like a mini detox for the brain. This is when your body regenerates cells and removes all the toxins that have built up during the day. Get to bed between the hours of 9 pm and midnight to benefit from the most effective hours of sleep! 9. Avoid using the GPS Gone are the days of map reading! Geo Satellite Navigation may have made our lives easier, it has also made our brains lazier and less efficient at the same time! Go back to the old school and use a map to navigate every now and then (this exercises the part of your brain responsible for understanding spatial relationships). 10. Stop Using the calculator Remember back at school when we were taught to use our brains to do simple sums like times tables? It’s incredible how we now rely on devices like smart-phones and laptops to calculate really simple equations. Resist the urge to work things out using an external device – and use the device you were born with – your brain!
