Sit on an exercise ball with your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart, shoulders back, and spine neutral. Pick a ball that allows your knees to be at a 90-degree angle when you are sitting with your feet flat on the floor. Tilt your hips and round your lower back by contracting your abdominals. Feel as if you are trying to bring your pubic bone to your bellybutton. Hold for 3 seconds. Tilt your hips in the opposite direction and arch your back. Feel as if you are sticking your tailbone out. Hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times, alternating directions. Complete 3 sets. OR Lie flat on your back with your legs bent and feet flat on the floor. Place your hands behind your head or cross them over your chest. Breathe in. As you breathe out, pull your bellybutton to your spine, engaging your transverse abdominus muscles, the muscle that wraps around your midline like a corset. Raise your head and shoulders a few inches off the floor to do a crunch, while maintaining the contraction in your abdominals. Return to starting position, relax, and repeat 10 times. Complete 3 to 5 sets.

- kindly tell what treatment had been taken for cervical spondylitis till so far. - for cervical spondylitis, there is neck exercises after hot water appllication.- if swellling is there than need for physiotherapy ultrasound, ift - she also having leg pain, you hadnot mentioned cause of it as cervical spondylitis os neck pain only.- she might be having low back pain also. - check her vit D, B12, uric acid levels. As deficiency of these vitamins will make her bones and muscles weak day by day, increasing her arthritis condition which may even lead to fracture in later cases. As a precaution: 1 avoid heavy weight lifting 2 avoid any jery movement to spine. 3 use of lumbar belt or cervical collar.- if her pain is more kindly go for physio sessions as soon as possible.

MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
Hi lybrate-user. As you have said you have hip arthritis I consider that you got diagnosed for it. If not get the check up and investigations done. Treatment depends on the findings of the radiographs and the integrity of joint. As you are telling it's 10-12 years don't delay more.

Chiropractic & Spinal Adjustment In Back Pain - Tips That Can Help!

Chiropractic & Spinal Adjustment In Back Pain - Tips That Can Help!

Chiropractic is a health profession that deals with the treatment of disorders related to the musculoskeletal system. It makes use of hands-on spinal adjustment and other alternative treatments to relieve pain so that there is no need for the patient with a musculoskeletal disorder to take medications or undergo a surgery.

Chiropractors, through their practice, facilitate proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal system. The spinal manipulation and adjustments made by them can help restore mobility of joints that may have been affected by an injury. Back pain is one of the most common ailments that is treated by chiropractors.

The following are some of the secret chiropractic tips that can help you get rid of back and neck pain:

  1. Stretch as soon as you wake up: How your spine feels at the end of the day largely depends on what you do first thing in the morning and beyond. Make sure to stretch your body as soon as you get out of your bed. It will stretch out the spine and correct any misalignment that may lead to pain later during the day.
  2. Practice straight and side planks: A strong core and abdominal muscles are the keys to a healthy and pain-free spine. You must ditch doping crunches and sit-ups and instead stick to straight and side planks to relieve pain in the back. Lie on your stomach and lift your body, balancing it on your toes and hands. Maintain this position for as long as you can.
  3. Do no sit cross-legged: Avoid crossing your legs during the day. While working on a computer, make sure that both your feet are straight and firmly placed on the ground. If your feet do not reach the ground, place a box or a small stool to elevate your feet. This will help reduce pressure on your lower back and thus, relieve pain.
  4. Change sleeping position: Stop sleeping on your belly as it may put your spine and neck under great strain. The best sleeping position to relieve back pain and keep it healthy is the one sleeping on your back with pillows under your knees. If you must sleep on your side, make sure to place a pillow between your knees. Both these positions help restore the natural curvature of the spine.
  5. Move as much as you can: Inactivity is one of the leading factors that deteriorate the health of the spine. Not moving enough, staying physically inactive, and spending hours working in a single position can actually weaken the structures that support the spine and ultimately cause back pain. You are more likely to suffer from more pain if you are sedentary. Therefore, as per chiropractors, you need to eat well, drink well, and move well to keep yourself away from back pain.

My mother was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis 19 years back, all her test results are normal, just that lefumide or lefra has stopped helping in easing the pain, but steroids like Defza 6 or Dezacore help. Her doctor has asked her to start using biologics. I have done my research, and the side effects I've come to know of are alarming, more so, biologics are too expensive. Isn't there any other alternative? She is 46 years old.

My mother was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis 19 years back, all her test results are normal, just that lefumide ...
Biologics are very good drugs, if used judiciously and has changed the way RA can be treated. You can technically use leflunomide, methotrexate etc, but many times they are intolerable. RA is a disease which makes you miserable, which is sometimes more worse than cancer which either kills or gets cured (I have put it simply and morbidly but unfortunately people will spend anything for cancer even if they are dying, but will see side effects of biologics and not use them, hence the comparison). Yes, biologics are expensive. But they have been used safely in may patients for more than 30 years now. There is no guarantee that your mother will respond to that, but at least that is an option to consider. Don't fear side effects, you should not be using steroids like defza also then. Defza will make her feel a bit better though even if she has a lot of damaged joints, if things are not controlled joints will further get damaged, and it will only worsen things. Also, the more uncontrolled RA is, it can affect internal organs and be life-threatening, You have to think all of this before thinking that biologics have side effects. The side effects of biologics are far lesser than RA disease itself. They are standard of care in most developed countries for a reason. A good rheumatologist should be able to address your concerns including cost considerations, buts sometimes there are so far and few in between, so they always find it difficult to counsel well in a busy clinic. But I hope I have been helpful. Best wishes Regards.
