Hello lybrate-user, diabetic people often develop such weakness in peripheral muscles due to low distribution of sugar to muscles. So start doing strengthening exercises for upper limb with weights initially low and later putting on.

A day after a good workout session at gym, I am hearing a popping sound in my shoulder and bone/ muscle overlapping or moving one over other, though I feel a little pain when I move my hand up and down. Just curious to know is it any sign of injury or this happens? For this I got many replies and remedies like icing, low frequency exercise ,rest, it's been almost two weeks, still same condition.

How To Get Relief From Hand Pain?

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Hyderabad
How To Get Relief From Hand Pain?

Every day we use our hands the most to get everything done. From drinking water to typing on the keyboard (and today on mobile phones); from holding the newspaper still when reading it to taking down academic notes- we use our hands for everything. But our hands like all other parts of the body have the capacity to carry out their functions. At times, we unknowingly put a lot of strain on our hands and they start to pain. Hand pains are quite common in everyone and it is equally common to practice certain exercises to control them quickly.

If you experience frequent pains in the hands, these are some of the exercises you can resort to.

  1. Fist: You do not always make a fist while punching people. Sometimes you make a fist to tighten your hand muscles and nerves and smoothen the blood flow in your hands. This helps in reducing the pain in your hands to a great extent. In fact, folding your hand to a fist can also help in preventing hand pain.

  2. Finger Bends: Bend each finger tightly towards your palm for at least a minute and then release it. Do it separately for each of the five fingers on your hand. This would ease out the tension in each of the fingers and normalize blood flow. This helps in curing any finger pain that you might be experiencing. It is especially a great exercise to prevent pain from developing in your thumb and index finger.

  3. Thumbs Up: Usually, we show the thumbs up sign to signal all is well and best wishes to people. But it is also an exercise if continued for some time. All you have to do is place your palm on a table and curl all your fingers except the thumb inwards. Stretch the thumb outwards and hold it in this position counting up to ten. Then curl your thumb towards the palm. This exercise too helps in stretching the muscles.

  4. Wrist: An important part of the hand is the wrist. The wrist joints are a very crucial set of bones and they tend to get injured very fast. They are also delicate enough to be sprained if the hand is turned abruptly. To avoid such injuries, strengthen the wrist and reduce wrist pain, a lot of wrist exercises are also prescribed. The simplest one is to extend your hand and move the wrist in anti-clockwise and clockwise directions.

Thus, these are some of the ways in which you can ease the pain in your hand in no time and go about normally with your daily chores.

Sir I have swelling at bums, neck. Being diabetic, I am advised small surgery. Can't it be dosed with antibiotics or ointments. I would like you give me some more details like fasting & pp blood sugar levels, hba1c level, lipid profile and medicines being taken. From your explanation it appears that diabetes control is not good. The swellings that you have mentioned are they red, pointing and painful on touch, if so they must be furruncles and on top this if you have developed foot ulcer then it is more serious matter. If you are not on insulin already, please start it straight away with your doctor's advise. If surgery is advised please get it done. Only antibiotics may not be able to resolve the matter.

Hi 1) protect the joint with a brace or wrap. 2) rest the joint, avoiding any activities that cause you pain. 3) ice the joint for about 15 minutes, several times each day. 4) compress the joint using an elastic wrap. 5) elevate the joint above the level of your heart. 6) if you are overweight do exercise like swimming or cycling to reduce weight. Still you don't get relief consult me via lybrate as further investigation may be needed.

My father feet are swelling. They become normal if the feet put in height than normal. Why and what is the solution.
Get a few reports done such as USG-Abdomen, ECG of your father. You might find out what the problem is. The swelling can be due to heart or renal problems. These reports will help you find out what exactly is the problem. Then what we can decide what should be done about it.

Dear lybrate-user, first we need to identify what is the cause of your knee pain. The knee pain can be due to ligament injuries or due to damage to the cartilage (smooth surface of the joint). A good clinical examination will reveal the cause of the pain in the knee. It is preferable that you consult a good sports specialist or a joint specialist for your condition. After clinical assessment if the doctor feels, mri may be needed to identify the problem with accuracy. The problem can range from'insignificant' to'significant ligament tears' the treatment can vary depending on the injury. While most injuries can be treated with physical therapy the severe ones may need arthroscopy or key-hole surgery. Hope that helps.

Hello lybrate user, - 1st thing to do is changing the posture of mobile or pc usage, which might be the cause for the pain - also use thin and soft pillow - adopt neck exercises daily for 15 minutes - you can adopt what ayurveda says here, apply some medicated oils like sahacharadi taila and do hot fomentation for 15 min daily, which makes your muscles more flexible and strengthen the joints - do this for 10 days and if the pain still persist then take an x-ray and consult to the doctor in personal. Thank you.
