Hello, My uncle suffered a ischemic stroke one month ago. Now, he is unable to walk by himself without support. He also has severe pain and swelling due to hemorrhoids and the general surgeon asked him to do an operation urgently. The issue here is that he he is taking Aspirin since the stroke. So, is it advisable to go for the surgery keeping in mind that the surgery requires stopping aspirin two days before the surgery and three days after, hence a total of 6 days without aspirin. Waiting for your quick response. Thank you!

MD - General Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Karimnagar
Hello, thanks for using Lybrate. as patient is on aspirin and suffered ischemic stroke it is risky to interrupt aspirin therapy, but when there is another problem which is unbearable we need to do operation. Try to control it medically but if it is sever then we need to take risk and do surgery.

Mr. lybrate-user, Looking at your weight and height it is clear that you have grade 1 obesity with a BMI of 30.5 kgs/M2. Your ideal body weight should be closer to 65 kgs, hence, carrying an extra weight of 25 kgs. This itself can be a major reason for various problems. Plus if uric acid is hige (above 7 mg/100 ml), then that to may contribute to joint pains. You may have avoid high purine containing foods like red meat, organ meats, certain fishes like sardines, salmon, scallops, herrings, haddock and mushrooms and mussels. Also alcohol and aerated drinks need to be avoided. Thanks.

1. For your age pain chest could be due to anxiety, stress, depression, physical and mental strain, hyper acidity, muscular problem 2. Avoid stress and strain 3. Do regular exercise, reduce your weight if over weight. 4. Control your diet. Avoid oily/spicy/fried and junk food, high calorie and cholesterol rich diet. Take small frequent meals (5-6 meals/day instead of three heavy meals. If you have hyper acidity take one tablet of pan 40 in the morning before breakfast daily for few days 5. Do yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercise like pranayama etc. It will calm your mind, control your emotion and relieve stress. 6. Have sound sleep for 7-8 hours daily. 7. Avoid excess tea/coffee, if you are having 8. Drink plenty of water and take rest 9. Take crocin advance one tablet sos after food up to a maximum of three tablets per day at the time of chest pain 10. If your sugar level is not down with these medicines. It means you are not following diabetic diet plan clearly. So avoid potatoes. Rice. Sweets. Etc.

My mom, age 60 years have hypertensive crisis (180/120) a week ago and have been vomiting and experiencing severe headache for a week. She did take some antihypertensive medication and her bp falls to 150/100 but even so headache and vomiting still present. She also did lumber puncture and the result was: Amount: 1 ml Color: colourless appearance: clear coagulation: nill protein: 50mgs% sugar: 76mgs% total cell count: 04cells/cumm differential cell count: all lymphocytes malignant cells: not seen others: RBC ++ can you please tell me what the result is and what should she do next. Does the presence of Rbc indicate cerebral hemorrhage?

Hi, RBC in lumbar puncture mostly indicate traumatic CSF means blood from layers of skin mixes with csf. For Subarachnoid haemorrhage xanthochromia is diagnostic. Its very difficult you to understand. I just want to tell you that get a non contrast CT brain, it will exclude cerebral haemorrhage. In a hypertensive patient with vomiting & headache one must exclude cerebral haemorrhage.

Hi lybrate-user, Yes definitely there are many options for reducing cholesterol levels. You need to make changes in your lifestyle and food habits. As you are regular with gym you can make few changes in your meals. Start having flax seeds (alsi ke beej) 1 tbsp per day which are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. It helps to lower down bad cholesterol and increase the good one. Can have crushed garlic 2 cloves every day along with water.
