Hi Doctors, I having son 3.5 years old, he pass motion since 4 days 3 to 4 times, getting heavy smell, and also last week went hospital as paediatrician opinion they gave loose motion tablet before bed time gave to him, but there is no symptom. Kindly help me.

MD Pediatric
Pediatrician, Mumbai
For young children most common cause of loose motion is rotavirus diarrhoea. Children mostly don't need antibiotics except when there is bloody / mucous diarrhoea or child has other symptoms other than loose motion. Smell doesn't signify much except that food is probably not fully digested because of low transit time. You keep child hydrated with oral rehydration solutions. If child develops fever, has decreased urine frequency, develop poor activity consult doctor immediately. Mostly loose motion if non complicated subsides on itself in approx 1 week.

Regarding online consultation there are certain points which all should know and follow. 1) the description of the diseases should be complete in all respects, including any tests done and any medicines already taking. Just saying I have diabetes since 10 years and taking metformin cannot help a discerning doctor a scientific advice. 2) your place and name and mail id and phone number should be in the question. It is necessary at times to know where you stay to give a good advice. (for example if there the climate is warm or cold and many other factors) 3) it is necessary to keep in regular touch for some diseases like diabetes and hypertension. So make it a point to be in touch by asking private questions. And repeat the essential point of the previous question to give a continuing answer. All these are said with intention to give a scientifically correct answer and talk as if in a regular consultation about which I am very keen to. 4) for personalised attention and follow up ask privately and it is better to make online payment if you are asked to by the doctor. It involves his time and dedication to give you expert advice after studying your problem. Ask personally in case of doubts about any medical matter.

Most Common Skin Problems In Babies

Most Common Skin Problems In Babies

The skin of a newborn baby is very fragile. It is thin and has low pigmentation. It takes quite some time (about a year) for the epidermis to develop and function effectively. Once the baby turns one, the skin gets thicker and more immune to skin problems. Here are some common skin problems found in almost every infant.

1. Diaper rash
Diaper rash is the development of red and inflamed skin in the area under the diaper. It is recommended to check the diaper for any wetness at regular intervals, and to change it when required. The diaper should not be too tight or left on too long. Applying a diaper rash ointment and keeping the area dry and open whenever possible can help in relieving your baby from the problem.

2. Baby acne
Development of acne/pimples on the skin of an infant is a common occurrence. It is advised to not to apply anything on it. It mostly resolves on its own in a couple of days.

3. Prickly heat
Prickly heat rashes are the rashes which develop on the face, neck, back or the bottom of the baby because of heat. To deal with this situation you should try to keep the infant cool and dry (not let him/her sweat) and ensure that they wear loose and comfortable clothes made of cotton.

4. Seborrhea
Rashes that develop on the scalp, eyebrows, cheeks, chest, and/or neck of a newborn baby (up to 6 months), are known as seborrhea. It appears to be gruesome, but does not bother the baby. It is recommended to use mild baby shampoo and creams to get rid of the problem. If there is no improvement, see a dermatologist.

5. Eczema
20% of the babies suffer from a very itchy skin rash known as 'eczema'. The affected area of the skin may turn red, ooze pus or crust over. It can be a result of an irritation caused due to sweating in a hot weather or due to the drying up of skin in a cold weather. Some clothing, specifically wool can even trigger this skin condition in a baby.

I have a baby of 8 months and she got infection in her blood? what are the causes and remedy for that problem?
Infection in the blood means I assume it's septicaemia. Cause is usually due to spread of infection from sites like skin, bone etc. Child should be hospitalised and treated with I v antibiotics.

Hello. Sorry to hear about your health ailment. You need to be specific in which type of hepatitis virus you are infected with .If its A or D or E you can definitely breastfeed. If its B virus then also you can breastfeed since child must be vaccinated against that virus by now. So don't worry and continue breastfeefing.

Exclusive breastfeeding to satisfaction of baby up to 6 months of age is only way to increase baby wt. If baby is fed properly, from 10th to 14th day of age, wt comes equal to B wt. Thereafter it increases by about 30 gm per day. Mother should take good nourishing diet. If you have any further queries please contact me privately through Lybrate.

After using drop wax for 3 years old daughter she is having itching and redness around ear. Please help.
Dear lybrate-user Who advised you to use the drops. If any Ent doctor advised then please go to him for further help. If you used it as over the counter medication then stop using it immediately and go to nearest Ent and start treatment for the child as she's getting reaction to the drop usage along with possible chances to catch up ear infection too. Get well soon.

Is zerolac good for babies? As it contain soya? Or does it harm my 21 days old baby?

Is zerolac good for babies? As it contain soya? Or does it harm my 21 days old baby?
My dear friend, off course it is good. You should continue. 1st is mother milk second is formula feed. If you want to increase your breast milk, feel free to contact me. Mother milk is best for baby. Some herbal medicines are available which will increase your milk production without any side effects. But if you are suffering from any disease due to which you are not feeding your child then zerolac is good and continue. Hope it will help you.
