Healthy Gums

BDS (GOLD MEDALIST)
Dentist, Jamshedpur
Healthy Gums
You can exercise for healthier gums as well. Gently bite down so as to make sure that your teeth make a clinking sound when they meet. Repeat this 30 to 40 times continuously. This exercise will stimulate the flow of blood and will keep your gums healthy.

I'm a 21 years old male and I have tooth fracture today while eating. What does it mean? And got an cavity Like thing on tooth.

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Hi lybrate-user. If you got your tooth fracture while eating then this might be due to cavity that made your tooth brittle. So go for dental checkup immediately. Your dentist ll ask you for restoration (filling) or rct depending upon the caries level.(most probably it could be rct).

Hi, From a very long time, my left side of the tongue is getting touched by 3rd molar teeth and my tongue is hurting, Have shown to doctors, some say it is nothing to do with teeth, have applied kenacort to tongue, have got teeth little bit grinded also, there is a slight relief from that but still it is rubbing against the teeth. What do I do? Please suggest.

BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
Permanent solution to your problem is getting the third molar extracted from the concerned side. As you have mentioned you got some relief after grinding the tooth. Here is another permanent solution if you do not want tooth removal, mostly the 3rd molar is out of occlusion so it will not trouble you. Visit a dentist ask him/her to trim the molar tooth to maximum and an ultra thin cap fabrication for the same. Problem will be resolved. Thank you.

I had completed my root canal treatment for my right molar tooth before 2 months. After root canal also it is paining sometimes. I didn't cap that tooth. Will it get set after capping?

MDS(Prosthodontist), BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Sometimes pain after root canal treatment occurs due to extent of infection or it can be due to some part of infected tissue left behind so in both the cases consult dentist and you should get capping done after getting relieved from pain as this is also required for long term prognosis of your teeth as well as save tooth from fracturing as tooth becomes brittle after root canal treatment.

I see gaps between my teeth. Earlier it was very less. What should I do to restrict it? can you suggest some facts how to tackle immediate problems?

BDS
Dentist,
Jus by mentioning gaps, treatment can't be suggested. If there are generalised too much of gaps then fixed orthodontic treatment is necessary. Or if its facially localised between one or two teeth it can be corrected by cosmetic procedures by incorporating composites.

I HAVE LOST AROUND 5 TEETH IN LEFT UPPER JAW AND 5 TEETH IN LOWER JAW. PL TELL ME WHETHER I HAVE TO TAKE OUT ENTIRE TEETH AND FIX NEW SET OVERALL. I AM 66. TELL ME WHETHER I CAN TRUST VASAN DENTAL CARE. I AM AT COIMBATORE

BDS
Dentist, Visakhapatnam
Hello As per your query, I have a few confirmations before i can decide what best can be done for you. 1) Are your other teeth strong? If yes. Never plan to remove them. 2) If you are a diabetic, plan for a fixed replacement therapy such as implants, bridges etc, and not dentures( though fixed replacement is a tad expensive). 3) Trusting a dental clinic is your choice . But have trust in the correct treatment plan and your dentist. . Wish you great health and happiness. Love your teeth. Value them as diamonds. Donot lose them. Have regular checkups to keep them healthy.

There is a myth among many people that removal of the upper teeth affects vision. This is a misconception. Vision is not affected in any way by undertaking treatment of the upper teeth including its extraction.

I am 21 years old, I am having yellow teeth, how to get rid of that. please suggest me the treatment and how much it costs in india.

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
I advice you go for scaling (professional tooth cleaning) to remove the extrinsic stains and then polishing and then bleaching (tooth whitening) so as to remove the intrinsic stains and improves the tooth shade. The cost of this treatment in my clinic is approx 7000 rs.

I will have wounds in mouth like cankers ulcers, but it will be only one or two .Now I am having many number of wounds in my mouth .I am suffering for more than a week. But previously it will be cured within a week. Now it's more than a week and I am having another symptoms such as something struck in my through also. What will be the symptoms of this?

BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
These symptoms suggests recurrent aphthous ulcers. Apart from visiting dentist, you can do various things at home to reduce stress. Drink plenty of water and take medicines prescribed by dentist. In your throat the same ulcers may have precipitated, or some bacterial, viral or fungal throat infection may have occurred. Whatever it may be, without proper clinical picture we can not help you much. Please consult an expert oral medicine doctor in this regard. THANK YOU.

Habits which can destroy your smile!

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Habits which can destroy your smile!

1. Not flossing
Brushing your teeth twice a day is important, but many patients don't realize that flossing at least once a day is just as critical to achieving - and maintaining - a healthy smile. Flossing removes the cavity-causing bacteria left behind from food particles that get stuck between teeth.

2. Brushing too soon after eating
Consuming acidic foods and beverages, such as sports and energy drinks, citrus fruits, wine, and tomatoes, can erode tooth enamel - the glossy outer layer of the tooth. Brushing your teeth too soon after eating and drinking these items can cause more damage because you are essentially brushing the acid into the teeth, not getting rid of it. Instead, you should rinse your mouth with water after consuming acidic foods and beverages and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your pearly whites!

3. Not replacing your toothbrush often enough
Not only are old toothbrushes ineffective, but they also harbor harmful bacteria that can cause infections. Toothbrushes should be changed every three to four months.

4. Excessively bleaching your teeth
Overzealous bleaching can cause your teeth to look unnaturally white and increase tooth sensitivity. Before using an at-home bleaching product, talk to your dentist.

5. Using a hard-bristled toothbrush
A hard-bristled toothbrush coupled with an aggressive brushing technique can cause irreversible damage to your gums. Use a soft toothbrush and gently brush your teeth at a 45-degree angle, in a circular motion. Using a back-and-forth, the sawing motion causes the gums to recede, and can expose the root of the tooth, making teeth extremely sensitive.

Proper Brushing

Proper brushing is essential for cleaning teeth and gums effectively.

Use a toothbrush with soft, nylon, round-ended bristles that will not scratch and irritate teeth or damage gums.

Place bristles along the gumline at a 45-degree angle. Bristles should contact both the tooth surface and the gumline.

Gently brush the outer tooth surfaces of 2-3 teeth using a vibrating back & forth rolling motion. A rolling motion is when the brush makes contact with the gumline and is moved downward toward the chewing surface. Move brush to the next group of two to three teeth and repeat.

Maintain a 45-degree angle with bristles contacting the tooth surface and gumline. Gently brush using back, forth, and rolling motion along all of the inner tooth surfaces.

Tilt brush vertically behind the front teeth. Make several up & down strokes using the front half of the brush.

Place the brush against the biting surface of the teeth & use a gentle back & forth scrubbing motion.

Brush the tongue from back to front to remove odor-producing bacteria.

Remember to replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Researchers have established that thousands of microbes grow on toothbrush bristles and handles. Most are harmless, but others can cause cold and flu viruses, the herpes virus that causes cold sores, and bacteria that can cause periodontal infections.

The better option is to do orthodontic treatment (braces) that will give you the best result and all the teeth will be aligned.

I am 22 year old, I haven't eat anything fuly since from past 4 days, I am suffering from teeth pain, I have taken pain killer tablets but it is not relieving the pain, what should I do know?

MDS
Dentist, Sangli
Felt very bad to hear that you didn't had proper meals for 4 days because of tooth pain. You need root canal treatment of tooth cavity for pain relief. I hope you will have pain relief and chewing capacity very soon.
