Breast feeding is best for your baby, formula feeding is just substitution. Colostrum is the so called" witch milk" that comes out from the mother's nipple for 2-3 days after child birth. It should definately be given to the baby as it is a rich source of immunoglobulins and anti-infective factors for the baby. Burp your child everytime after a feed.Motherhood has to be enjoyed rather than a duty to fulfill.

I am 26 year old and mother of 3. I am still breastfeeding my 1 year 8 months old baby and want to stop now. My breast became saggy, soft and sometimes wrinkled. I want to increase my breast size naturally by homeopathy and diet and also want to lift up my sagging breast. I am very depressed looking at it.

U need surgical correction for loose breast. To increase your breast size: no medicine can increase breast size. No peels or massage can ever alter size. Breast implant is most effective and common procedure to increase size of breast. In this procedure silicon implant of desisted size is pushed under breast tissue. Procedure is done under anesthesia so there is no question of pain. Patient can go home in 3 to 4 hrs. You just need to wear supporting bra for some time and can return to work next day. Externally the look and feel of breast is just like natural young breast. Within few hrs you will regain your confidence and have attractive chest figure. In future pregnancy there is no problem in breast feeding. There is no risk of any major illness or disease associated with this procedure. Implants available in different size.

Care Of The New Born

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS

Care Of The New Born

No matter how much time you spend researching on how to take care of your newborn, once your child is delivered, the first few weeks will leave you frantic and overwhelmed. However, there are a few tips which new parents must keep in mind.

Handling a newborn:

  1. Since babies have a weak immune system and are susceptible to infections, it is of paramount importance that anyone who handles your child has clean and sanitized hands.
  2. You also need to be careful about always supporting and cradling your child's head and neck since the muscles in his or her neck are weak at birth, and babies only develop head control after six months.
  3. Never shake your newborn baby whether playfully or out of frustration. Shaking the baby can cause bleeding in the brain or in severe cases, death. Tickle your child's feet to wake him or her up.
  4. Not only is it important to make sure that your baby is fastened securely in the car seat, stroller or carrier, you must also restrain from activities which may be bouncy or rough.

Diapering:

Firstly, you must decide whether you want disposable or cloth diapers for your infant. Babies go through at least ten diapers a day (irrespective of whether they are cloth or disposable). While diapering, you must keep in mind to not leave your baby unattended on the changing tables. So get all the supplies such as clean diaper, diaper ointment (in case of rash), fasteners, diaper wipes and warm water, before changing his or her diaper.

Bathing:

Newborn babies need to be given a sponge bath with warm water and very little soap till the navel and/or the circumcision heals completely. This can take about one to four weeks. After being healed, the baby should be bathed twice or thrice a week since frequent bathing may damage the baby's skin.

Breastfeeding and Burping:

Doctors recommend feeding the baby on demand i.e. whenever your baby is hungry. Crying, putting fingers in the mouth, or making sucking noises convey that the baby is hungry. A newborn baby needs to be fed every couple of hours.

Burping is important so that the air consumed during the feedings can be let out since it makes the baby fussy. Patting or rubbing a baby's back usually helps them to burp or pass gas.

Stop feeding milk frequently. It is only when child is hungry that he will start accepting food. It will take lot of patience on parents side. This is most common problem faced by all parents.

My son is 7 years old, on back side of his left leg, there is a light white line from hip to foot. Please suggests reason and remedy for the same, is this due to some deficiency ?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Not due to any deficiency. It can be birth mark, post inflammatory scar if he had any abrasion there or fungal infection which however will not be like a line as you said. If you can send a photo to me I han guide you better. It is safe to apply imidil ointment twice daily for few weeks and if ungal it will disappear. You can remain in touch with me privately as your personal doctor.

Health Tips For Healthy Children

You can help your child develop healthy habits early in life that will bring lifelong benefits. As a parent, you can encourage your kids to evaluate their food choice and physical activity habits. Here are some tips and guidelines to get you started.

Be a good role model- you don't have to be perfect all the time, but if kids see you trying to eat right and getting physically active, they'll take notice of your efforts. You'll send a message that good health is important to your family.

Keep things positive- kid&'s don't like to hear what they can't do, tell them what they can do instead. Keep it fun and positive. Everyone likes to be praised for a job well done. Celebrate successes and help children and teens develop a good self-image.

Get the whole family moving- plan times for everyone to get moving together. Take walks, ride bikes, go swimming, garden or just play hide-and-seek outside. Everyone will benefit from the exercise and the time together.

Be realistic- setting realistic goals and limits are key to adopting any new behaviour. Small steps and gradual changes can make a big difference in your health over time, so start small and build up.

Limit tv, video game and computer time- these habits lead to a sedentary lifestyle and excessive snacking, which increase risks for obesity and cardiovascular disease. Limit screen time to 2 hours per day.

Encourage physical activities that they'll really enjoy- every child is unique. Let your child experiment with different activities until they find something that they really love doing. They'll stick with it longer if they love it.

Pick truly rewarding rewards- don't reward children with tv, video games, candy or snacks for a job well done. Find other ways to celebrate good behaviour.

Make dinnertime a family time -when everyone sits down together to eat, there's less chance of children eating the wrong foods or snacking too much. Get your kids involved in cooking and planning meals. Everyone develops good eating habits together and the quality time with the family will be an added bonus.

Make a game of reading food labels -the whole family will learn what's good for their health and be more conscious of what they eat. It's a habit that helps change behaviour for a lifetime.

Stay involved -be an advocate for healthier children. Insist on good food choices at school. Make sure your children's healthcare providers are monitoring cardiovascular indicators like bmi, blood pressure and cholesterol. Contact public officials on matters of the heart. Make your voice heard.

Is it healthwise safe for a less than one month old infant to travel through train for approx 24 hour long journey?

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Nagpur
Is it healthwise safe for a less than one month old infant to travel through train for approx 24 hour long journey?
Ideally travelling for such long duration should be avoided as there are issues like feeding and privacy for feeding the baby is not available always. Also the baby may be exposed to unnecessary airborne infection during travel.
