It would help to know what exactly your blood test reports are so that I can suggest appropriate medication. But to begin with please try to reduce a few kgs of your weight- ideally 10% because that is of immense help. Also try and cut all fried and high calorie foods from your diet.

My wife suffering from tight motion is it normal during 5th month of pregnancy and is it because of the tablet she is consuming (iron and calcium).

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Chandigarh
Constipation is quite common during pregnancy and also may result from iron n calcium supplement. Eat green leafy vegatables and fibre rich food. Drink plenty of water and have regular walk. This will solve your problem or else laxative may have to be prescribed.

I am 25 year female having pregnancy of 19 weeks My cervix length is 58.1 mm What does that mean.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
Normal cervical length is 4 to 5 cm when not pregnant. One study found that at 24 weeks gestation, the average cervical length is 3.5 cm. When cervical length is less than 2.2 cm, women face a 20 percent probability of preterm delivery. (Source: The Length of the Cervix and the Risk of Spontaneous Premature Delivery. Cervical length in high-risk women for preterm birth has to be identified before early second trimester. Sequential evaluations lead to high predictive significance. The mean cervical length at 24 weeks is about 35 mm when measured by transvaginal ultrasound. A short cervix is defined as a cervix that is less than 25 mm and funneling, i.e. Ballooning of the membranes into a dilated internal os, but with a closed external os. Factors such as short cervical length, uterine anomaly, previous cervical surgery, multiple gestation and positive fetal fibronectin results are associated with preterm delivery. Serial transvaginal ultrasound examinations during the early second trimester would provide longitudinal changes in the cervical length.

I have irregular periods, and also coming daily mth, but I don't have children what will do for this?

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, Are you asking about somebody else? What her age? Is she married, if yes, since when? How is her sexual life? What kind of menstrual irregularity is there? Has she undergone any investigations? Share all the reports with me. Without knowing all these can't give you any medication. Ask her to take more of green vegetables, nuts, salads, seasonal fruits, yellow coloured veggies, milk & milk products, plenty of water and enough of sleep & rest. And homoeopathic medication – Schwabe's Five Phos. And Alfaalfa Tonic – both thrice daily for 1 month. There after revert me back..take care.

Hello doctor I am 7 months pregnant and I have swelling in my feet and hands and I feel little pain also in my feet and hands please tell why this happen?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
Swelling happens because your body is holding on to more fluid than usual. The increased pressure in your leg veins, and pressure from your growing baby on the big veins in your groin, add to the problem. Swelling is common. About half of all pregnant women experience it. To prevent Swelling Try to eat a balanced diet so that you put on a healthy amount of weight during pregnancy. Aim to reduce how much salt, sugar and fat you have. Cut out pre-packaged, highly processed foods, as they are usually high in all three. Salt causes your body to hold on to more fluid. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, as this will help your body to hoard less water. Rest as much as possible, putting your feet up above your hips. Try not to cross your legs, as this restricts your blood flow. Sit down when you can, and if your work involves standing for long periods of time, move about from one foot to the other to increase blood flow. You can also do these simple foot exercises to reduce swelling in your ankles: bend and stretch your foot up and down 30 times Circle each foot eight times one way and eight times the other way You can do these whether you're standing or sitting. Exercise regularly, especially by walking, swimming, or riding an exercise bike. Or try a water aerobics class – immersion in water may temporarily help reduce swelling, particularly if the water level is up near your shoulders. Go to your Gynecologist if you notice swelling in your face or puffiness around your eyes, more than slight swelling of your hands, or excessive or sudden swelling of your feet or ankles. This could be a sign of preeclampsia, a serious condition. Best wishes.

7 Foods For a Healthy Poop

7 Foods For a Healthy Poop

Each person has his own individual bathroom habits and it is totally his/ her personal lifestyle that dictates their regular bowel movement. However, having a bowel movement fewer than 3 times in a week would be deemed as constipation and there can be a host of reasons leading to unhealthy poop. Thankfully, there are some foods which can help you have healthy poop without troubling your bowels and some of them are:

  1. Dried plums: This dry fruit is not just famous for their delicious taste but also for the fact that they contain high amounts of fiber. Fiber is a nutrient that helps in increasing the bulk of the poop and aids them to move along the intestine. Prunes or dried plums are also known to contain fermentable sugars, sorbitol, and fructans which together create a laxative effect.
  2. Kiwi: There is hardly any individual who doesn’t like kiwis. And the good thing is that kiwis contain a high amount of fiber which keeps the digestive tract clear. It is also rich in vitamin C and antioxidants which make a cupful of kiwi essential to everyday diet.
  3. Popcorn: It is not just a wonderful afternoon snack but can increase the daily intake of fiber in the diet. It is recommended by experts to replace the evening potato chips with popcorns that would help the body in different ways including easy bowel movement.
  4. Water: This is quite obvious as water is critical to keep you hydrated and help the poop move easily through the intestine. An individual who is even a bit dehydrated would have harder poop which becomes difficult to pass. It is therefore very important to drink 8 to 10 glassful of water every day.
  5. Flaxseeds: If someone can manage to eat a tablespoon of ground flaxseeds in a day, then the body gets 2 grams of fiber. This may sound inadequate, but it really helps in bowel movement. The best thing about flaxseeds is that one can add them in yoghurt, smoothie, salads or evening snacks. It is important to note here that one should not eat flaxseeds as a whole as the human digestive system is not able to digest it. It is important to either ground it or purchase them pre-ground to reap the benefits of flaxseeds.
  6. Oranges: Having a large, juicy orange in place of a glassful of orange juice can aid the digestive tract to pass the stool. One big orange can offer 4 grams of fiber in exchange of 86 calories. Plus, it is known to contain flavonols which help in treating constipation.
  7. Oatmeal: The best thing about oatmeal is that equal amounts of soluble and insoluble fibers. The function of insoluble fiber is to add bulk to the stool and help in passing it out quickly while the work of the soluble fiber is to dissolve in the water for formation of a gel-like substance making it easier to pass.

Try these foods today to have a healthy stool and eliminate problems of constipation. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.

Its safe to do sex in periods? Tell me n detail Bcoz my partner is excited in her periods.

D.E.H.M, B.E.M.S, M.D.(E.H)

Of course you can have sex during your period, but I'd warn you that it's usually more painful. Also, it's going to be messy. So you might want to try and have something beneath you to catch the flow of your menstruation. Remember to use protection, and that you are at a higher risk of getting an STD when you are menstruating, only because of the more fluid flowing through your body at the entrance point.
