My son of 50 days old is not getting sufficient Breast milk from his mother. Is there any medicine to increase Breast milk for my child or any other powder food can take. Mother is 26 year old.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
General Physician, Bangalore
Sir, Mother has to increase water intake, may be 3 to 4 litres per day. No restrictions should be made. She has to suckle the child frequently. She has to sit and feed, later should BURP the child for 10 minutes. Let her eat lot of fruits and vegetables. Food should not be restricted. she has to eat good home made food when ever she is hungry. It is very important. Let her put protein powder in milk, at least 3 times per day. Proteins are important. She can take, eat Non veg. items also. She has to eat food, 5 to 6 times per day. This is because, the entire nutrition for the Baby is from mother. If she follows this, she should get good response within 1 week. Lastly, She SHOULD like to feed. she should not have any stress. Get back to me if there is no response within 1 week.

Is Actinomycosis Contagious? How Can It Be Treated?

MBBS, Diploma in Venerology & Dermatology (DVD), DDV, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy
Dermatologist, Pune
Is Actinomycosis Contagious? How Can It Be Treated?

Actinomycosis is a chronic disease that causes bruises or scars in the body's soft tissues. Actinomycosis is typically found in the:

  • Mouth
  • Nose
  • Throat
  • Lungs
  • Stomach
  • Intestines

Actinomycosis once in a while shows up in other parts of the body. However, it can spread from the underlying affected area to different parts of the body if any sickness or a disease harms your tissue. Actinomycosis is not infectious. It is essentially found in the tropical regions of the world.

Some of the most common side-effects of actinomycosis are:

  • High fever
  • Weight reduction
  • Bumps on the neck or face
  • Depleting bruises on the skin
  • Overabundance of sinus flow
  • Coughing
  • Chest pain

Anti-toxins are the essential treatment for actinomycosis. High amounts of penicillin are normally necessary to cure the infection. In case you are hypersensitive to penicillin, your specialist can give you different antimicrobials, for example,

It can take up to a year for the anti-toxins to totally cure the infection. Any skin eruptions, or bumps, from the contamination, should be taken care of or removed. In case that you have actinomycosis because of the utilization of an IUD(intra-uterine device), the gadget needs to be expelled to contain the advancement of the disease. Inform your specialist quickly in case you have side effects of actinomycosis. Early, forceful treatment diminishes your probability of growing long-term implications and requirement of surgery. The treatments are as follows:

High-dosage penicillin regulated over a drawn-out period (six months to one year) is the basis of treatment for actinomycosis. These symptoms were produced when patients with actinomycosis were commonly late over the span of sickness with extensive injuries. They frequently accepted discontinuous anti-infection treatment.
What is more is the advanced imaging devices were not accessible to screen treatment. Accomplishment with shorter courses of treatment (less than six months) has been accounted for, particularly in cervicofacial actinomycosis.

Anti-infection agents that have no action against Actinomyces species include metronidazole, aminoglycosides, aztreonam, co-trimoxazole (TMP-SMX), penicillinase-safe penicillins (eg, methicillin, nafcillin, oxacillin, cloxacillin), and cephalexin.

  • Penicillin G (Pfizerpen, Bicillin). It is one of the best treatments for actinomycosis. It reacts with the cell synthesis called the mucopeptide during active multiplication, bringing about the bactericidal movement against helpless bacteria and thus eliminating them.
  • Doxycycline (Bio-Tab, Doryx, Vibramycin). For non-pregnant patients with penicillin sensitivity, it hinders protein combination and, along these lines, bacterial development by authoritative to 30S and perhaps 50S ribosomal subunits of defenseless bacterial organisms.
  • Clindamycin (Cleocin). Suggested for patients with hypersensitive to penicillin, Lincosamide hinders bacterial development, by blocking separation of peptidyl t-RNA from ribosomes. This brings about RNA-subordinate protein synthesis to an arrest. Disadvantage of this is the absence of coverage against some surrounding bacteria.

If the child is in normal range of weight and playful, may be his requirements are met with what he/she is eating. For constipation, the treatment is easy by a pediatrician

As per the history given by u, your child is suffering from Noctutlrnal enuresis. Which mainly have two types primary & secondary enuresis. Does your child has not learned toilet training at night since birth or he has learned it earlier & again he has started bed wetting? First get URINE routine micro test done. In your case proper toilet training with restriction of oral fluids after 9 pm is needed.

6 Signs You Might be Suffering From Periodontal Disease

6 Signs You Might be Suffering From Periodontal Disease

Many adults suffer from Periodontal disease, which may result in slight swelling of the gums or something more severe as grave damage to the bone and tissue, which holds on to the teeth. After the onset of Periodontal disease, dental care is essential as it will determine the progress of the condition.

What are some of the causes of Periodontal disease?

  1. Smoking is one of the main causes of gum diseases. Moreover, it also reduces chances of effective treatment.
  2. Hormonal changes in women make the gums increasingly sensitive; as a result they become more susceptible to the onset of gingivitis.
  3. Diabetic patients are more likely to develop infection of the gums.
  4. The ongoing treatment for serious medical conditions like AIDs and cancer can also cause Periodontal Disease.
  5. Genetics also plays an essential role in the onset of gums diseases.

What are the symptoms of Periodontal disease?

  1. Persistent foul breath
  2. Red inflamed gums
  3. Tender gums with some amount of bleeding
  4. A sensation of pain while chewing food
  5. Loose teeth
  6. Teeth sensitivity

In case these symptoms are experienced, a dentist should be immediately consulted.

How is Periodontal disease treated?

  1. The most effective way of treating Periodontal disease, is by controlling the progression of the condition. The type of treatment generally depends on the extent of the disease.
  2. Generally the doctor begins treatment by cleaning out the plaque, through a process called scaling and root planing. Scaling gets rid of the tartar from the gums and root planing removes rough spots from the root of the tooth, where bacteria generally accumulate and breed. Sometimes, a laser is also used for the same.
  3. After the cleaning is done, certain medicines are recommended and the doctor recommends strict oral care.
  4. If the diseases continue to worsen, a surgical treatment may be recommended.
  5. Some surgical treatments include flap surgery and bone and tissue grafts.
  6. Scaling should be done every 6months.

Hi lybrate-user, thank you for your query. Baby's stools colour may vary. Green color stools are normal if there is no mucus, foul smelling, blood or increased stools with watery consistency. There is no restrictions on food for lactating mothers unless there is any specific food allergy in mother. In addition to mother milk, you should start mashed, semisolid complimentary feeds after 6 months of age. Hope I have answered your question.
