Memory Disorders - Common Reasons Behind It!

Memory Disorders - Common Reasons Behind It!

Some people suffer from difficulty in remembering things, and this may be attributed to Alzheimer’s disease even though it is not the only cause of memory disorders. If you are recently having troubles in remembering, then it is high time that you should consult with an expert.

Common causes of memory disorders
You will be surprised to know about the various causes of memory loss and here are some of them include:

  1. Sleep apnea: This is a common yet easily treatable sleep issue which is often linked with dementia and memory loss. You may have sleep apnea if you find yourself waking up with a terrific headache along with fatigue that lingers all through the day. The injury caused by sleep apnea may lead to permanent damage to the brain cells.
  2. Certain medications: Memory loss may be a sign that the medicines you are taking need to be adjusted. Drugs including sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medicines, painkillers, antihistamines, and diabetes medicine may take a toll on the functionality of your brain. Many studies have suggested that cholesterol and diabetes lowering drugs contain a chemical which gives way to reversible cognitive side effects.
  3. Silent strokeWhen you feel that there is an unexplained inability to think or to move in a normal way, then it could come from a silent stroke. Mild memory issues may also stem from silent strokes affecting smaller blood vessels. These alterations in brain functionality may range from mild to severe and are termed as vascular cognitive impairment.
  4. Nutritional deficiency: When you substantially lack in Vitamin B12, your normal brain function will be hampered. This may lead to confusion as well as dementia. Every day, you must get 2.4 micrograms of B12 in the diet from fish, meat and dairy products.

Treatment of memory problems
The treatment of memory problems is entirely dependent on the cause. In some instances, the disorder is reversible with the help of proper treatment. For example, when the memory loss is caused by some medicines, it can be cured by altering the course of medications. Treating depression may also be helpful for memory problems when depression is the causing factor.

There are many medicines available for the treatment of memory problems. With the progress of memory problems, the cells of the brain start dying, and it causes the cognitive symptoms to worsen. Even though the medications that are available at present may not be helpful in stopping the damage to the brain cells, they can be helpful in stabilizing the symptoms by influencing the chemicals involved in carrying messages among the nerve cells in the brain. Sometimes, doctors prescribe both the types of medicines together to speed up the recovery process hindering further damage.

Hello Lybrate user, what I understand from your query is that there is sensation of a crick in back of neck, do not worry this are early symptoms of ligamental and muscular weakness what you need is gradual and progressive neck muscle strengthening exercise on regular basis which will help you to improve your posture, bad seating and sleeping posture is one of the major cause of your discomfort ,i strongly recommend you consult a qualified physiotherapist who is expert in kinesiology who will be in better position to help, avoid going for unnecessary investigation, in meantime you can start taking homeopathy medicine for speedy recovery,

Hello lybrate-user. Your doctor has given you the appropriate medicine .this will balance the hormone level in your body and thus will regularise your periods. Taking I pill this much frequently can cause hormonal imbalance in your body .so please avoid taking this pill regularly. You can switch to these medicines which your doctor has given you for contraception. Moreover you can use other methods of contraception also like IUCD etc.

Tubal Damage and Infertility - What To Know?

MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, DGO, MBBS, MCPS

Tubal Damage and Infertility - What To Know?

The fallopian tubes are not mere passages for the egg to travel from the ovaries to the uterus. It is here that conception occurs and hence healthy fallopian tubes are essential for the fertilization of an egg.  Damaged fallopian tubes are the most common cause of infertility. This damage can fall under three categories-

  1. Blocked fallopian tubes
  2. One blocked and one open fallopian tube
  3. Tubal scarring

The third is usually an effect of pelvic infections or natural healing after a pelvic surgery. Sadly, in most cases, this condition is discovered only after infertility has been diagnosed. Other causes of fallopian tubal scarring include:

Fallopian tubal scarring has no recognizable symptoms. Chronic pelvic pain is the only known symptom of this damage and that too can be seen only in severe cases of tubal scarring. On diagnosing infertility, your doctor will perform one of these tests to determine the condition of your fallopian tubes.

  1. Hysterosalpingogram: This is a type of X-ray. Your doctor will open the vagina with a speculum and inject a liquid into the uterus with the help of a catheter. If the liquid does not pass through the fallopian tubes, it is said to be blocked. This however does not say much about tubal scarring.
  2. Laparoscopy: A small incision is made below the belly button and a slim, flexible tube with a camera is passed through the incision. This gives your doctor a clear view of the condition of your fallopian tubes. A laparoscopy can also be used to rule out other causes of infertility such as endometriosis or blocked fallopian tubes.

Treatment for infertility caused by tubal scarring is of two types.

  1. Surgery: This is suggested in cases where tubal scarring is minimal. Depending on the intensity and placement of scar tissue, your doctor may decide to perform one of many types of surgeries. He may choose to remove the scarred section of the fallopian tube, create a new opening (in case of blockages) or rebuild the damaged edges of the fallopian tubes.
  2. In vitro Fertilization(IVF): Women with badly scarred fallopian tubes usually have poor chances of conceiving naturally. Hence, IVF is the preferred treatment route. However, your doctor may still advise you to undergo surgery and remove the damaged tubes prior to IVF to prevent the tubes from filling with fluid.

How Your Diet Affects Your Overall Physical Health

How your diet affects your overall physical health

The fuel that runs all your bodily processes and enables you to do everything is food. Following the right diet and having correct eating habits can help in preventing as well as treating diseases that may affect you. On the other hand, poor dietary habits and food choices can have adverse long-term effects.

Food has a direct relationship to physical health. Here's how they are related:

  • the nutrients that you get from a balanced and healthy diet keep your brain active, and your heart and muscles working. They also help in building your bones, muscles and tendons in addition to regulating body processes like blood pressure.
  • it supplies you with energy so that you are able to carry out your daily activities with ease. From strength to coordination and agility to speed, your food is the source of power for all these levels of performance.
  • having a healthy diet ensures your body movements are executed with minimal effort. In contrast, a poor diet can make each of your body movement an effort that is filled with strain, stress and pain.
  • the consumption of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains enables you to function properly and not suffer from energy spikes and breakdowns that a carbohydrate and sugar-rich diet may bring about.
  • having foods that are high in trans fats such as cookies, pies, cakes or doughnuts and saturated fats such as red meat, butter or cheese alongside fatty meats puts you at risk of developing major health diseases that can affect your physical well-being.
  • the consumption of foods that are rich in unsaturated fats such as fish, nuts and vegetable oils protects and restores your body.
  • eating a balanced diet ensures you don't end up putting on excess weight, thereby lowering your risk of acquiring diet-related ailments such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
  • additionally, following a healthy diet plan also ensures you don't end up with eating disorders like bulimia, anorexia and binge-eating disorder that are detrimental to your physical health.
