Hello, You mean under eye dark circles? Common reasons for dark circle are aging, genetics, nutritional deficiency (of vitamin A, C, K, E), sleep deprivation, worm-infestation, anemia, smoking & drinking, dehydration, sun exposure, allergies, stress/ tension and hormonal changes. Dark circles are linked to anemia, and liver diseases. So, in case of dark circles which are there due to some underlying cause can be get rid rid of once the causative factor is rectified. But the dark circles which are inherited from our genes can't be removed completely, to some extent can make slightly better. Diet and Management: Always take a balanced diet rich in green leafy vegetable, dairy products and all types of fruits to keep your body healthy. It is advisable to have at least 10-12 glasses of water and include fresh fruit daily. It is also advisable to restrict the intake of caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee, alcohol and other caffeinated drinks as it aggravates dehydration. Take enough of 6-8 hrs. Of sleep. Avoid taking stress/ tension. Do daily exercising regularly as it increases oxygen carrying capacity of the cells and tissues. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines – Schwabe's Cina 1M/ one dose at night for 10 days; Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos. - both twice daily for 20 days. Revert me there after. Hello. I think you have allergic conjunctivitis. 1. Eye allergies, called allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them (called an allergen). 2. The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids) become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. The key to treating eye allergies is a. Avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. B. Avoid rubbing eyes instead do cold compresses. Use antiallergic eyedrop along with lubricating eyedrop. This will help you I am very sorry dear to say that there is no medicine that can cure allergy. Only way is to stay away from all those things that you are allergic to.

Here are some ways to care for your eyes

Namaskar i am Dr. S Bharti, founder and senior consultant in Bharti eye Foundation and Hospital. We have two centers one in east Patel Nagar and the other in greater kailash one and we provide very high quality eye care services and that is why both our centers are NABH accredited. Here I want to share some facts about the eye care basically for general public.

The first fact which I want to emphasize is the examination of the eye for a child should be done at the age of three years before the child enters the school so this is very important because some some of the times or most of the times the child is not able to tell you as to whether is or she is not seeing so well and only when the eye is examined at the age of three years. The parents come to know that the child has weak eyes the possibility of a child having a week eye is more in children whose parents are also having week eyes but in any case it is important to have the eye checkup for a child at the age of three years before going to the school.

The second fact which I want to emphasize is that today majority of people require computer in their routine work and there is an entity called computer vision syndrome. This computer vision syndrome is because when you are working on a computer your eye tends to blink less than normal and they can tend to get dry so it is very important to follow a room where you blink your eye. Every 20 seconds whenever you remember you get out of the area where you are working on the computer after every 20 minutes take your eyes off the computer after 20 minutes and also most of the times you will require to put some lubricant eye drop and working on the computer for a long time.

the third important thing is the cataract is not a disease it is a phenomena which happens with age. everybody will develop cataract if they live long enough sometimes the cataract start at the age of 50. For others the cataract may not start even at the age of 75 so you it is not that certain age you will definitely have cataract but there are changes which will happen to your lens and it will get opaque and that is what is called cataract and there is no medical treatment for cataract. It has to be removed and another lens has to be implanted in the eye for the treatment of cataract.

Thank you very much you can get in touch with me on lybrate.com. thank you.

Red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power.

I am suffering from irritation of right eye since three years, w. E. F. Tight discharge. What can I do?
Hello lybrate-user. Sorry about your eye trouble. If you have irritation along with discharge, it would be more likely due to infection of the eyes. You should use an antibiotic eye drops. Use moxifloxacin eye drops 4 times in a day along with tobramycin eye drops 4 times in a day. Keep a gap of 15 minutes between two types of drops. Continue using the lubricant eye drops 6 to 7 times in a day. Wash your eyes regularly. Avoid rubbing your eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc with the eye drops and the hygienic precautions mentioned you are sure to get relieved from your signs and symptoms within a short span of time. Take care-regards.

I have red eyes for over 2 days and it is very painful to me. Now what should I do for quick response.
Hello, Bloodshot eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: Eye dryness Too much sun exposure Dust or other particles in the eye Allergies Infection Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. Other causes of eye redness include Colds or allergies, Acute glaucoma, Corneal scratches: Injuries caused by sand, dust, or overuse of contact lenses. Sometimes, a bright red spot, called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, will appear on the white of the eye. This often happens after straining or coughing, which causes a broken blood vessel on the surface of the eye. Most often, there is no pain and your vision is normal. It is almost never a serious problem. Because the blood leaks into the conjunctiva, which is clear, you cannot wipe or rinse the blood away. Like a bruise, the red spot will go away within a week or two. Management: - Try to rest your eyes if redness is due to fatigue or eye strain. No other treatment is needed. - Wash your hands, hold clean water in your hand, keep your eyes closer to the water and dip the eyes by blinking the eyelids frequently in the held water in hand. Repeat it for 3-4 times again. - Avoid watching T.V., working on computer or mobile, reading. - In case there is itching, use a clean napkin or a tissue to wipe the tears and cleaning the eyelids gently. -Wear an UV-rays protected sunglasses while you are out in sun. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe’s Belladonna 30 and Euphrasia 30 - both thrice daily for 4 days. Use Euphrasia Eye drops twice daily. Revert back thereafter.

Hello. Let me enumerate the diet necessary for healthy eyes. (1) green leafy vegetables including spinach, sprouts, cabbage, beetroot. (2) fruits-blue-berries, black-berries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate, grapes, guava. (3) dry-fruits: almonds, walnuts, apricots, dates. (4) cereals: oats, barley, millets. (5) drink a cup of green tea daily. (6) drink a glass of milk daily. Don't take your eyes for granted! protect your sight with these six tips: 1. Eat for good vision 2. Quit smoking 3. Wear sunglasses / helmets to shield your eyes from dust, sunlight, pollution 4. Wash your eyes 3-4 times a day 5. Look away from the computer screen at regular intervals 6. Avoid rubbing your eyes with fingers/ cloth/ shirt/ dupatta, etc. Puffiness beneath the eyelids has various causes associated with it. (1) age related distribution of fat. With progressive time and age there occurs a re-distribution of a lot of body fat. This may lead to puffiness/ sagging/ bagginess of the lower eyelids. (2) excessive alcohol consumption has at times seen to be associated with puffiness of eyelids. (3) hypersensitivity/ allergy of the eyes may cause puffiness. It may be caused due to dust, pollen, insect bite, etc. (4) thyroid level fluctuation has at times been seen to be associated with puffiness of eyelids. (5) excessive obesity has been shown to be associated with puffiness of eyelids. (6) extreme condition such as orbital cellulitis: very rare. Also, it is usually associated with eye injury, surgery, systemic infection, etc. It is very less likely to be so in your case. (7) grave's disease: this has a tendency to be associated with thyroid disease (or other autoimmune conditions). It s also rare. It is associated with fatigue and weakness that progresses throughout the day. Thus, it would be a good idea to identify in the category that you come into and then tackle the situation. The reason for this being that each cause would have a different pattern of treatment. Let me know if I can be of further help. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Foot Care & Eye Care In Diabetes

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Foot Care & Eye Care In Diabetes

Diabetes can wreak havoc on the eye and the foot. Proper care is necessary in order to refrain from any serious consequences. It can damage the blood vessels and the nerves of the feet resulting in numbness and permanent disability. Some of the alarming foot symptoms include bruises, cuts, cracked skin and hard spots. Some of the common measures that need to be taken for foot include checking the temperature sensation of the foot by immersing it in hot water, drying the feet gently in between the toes and using agents such as lotion, lanolin, and petroleum jelly.

  • Some of the other preventive measure includes cutting the nails when they are young and straight to ensure no injury to the foot takes place. It should be ensured the toe is not touched by the nail of the toe. A pumice stone can be used to get rid of the corns immediately after a bath. No medicated pads or sharp razors should be utilised to cut corns. The feet should be soaked in warm water before trimming nails.
  • A shoe should be put on at all times to save the feet. The shoe sole should be thoroughly checked for foreign objects such as stones and nails to ensure that the foot is not hurt. Tight shoes should be strictly avoided in order to refrain from soreness and blisters. Dry and clean socks should be put up to ensure the foot is clean. For people living in cold area, wearing thick socks should be practised. This will help the foot protect from cold. Finally, a doctor should be called in case there are any visible signs of swelling, redness, cracks, pain or sensation of burning.
  • Too much blood sugar can cause harm to the eye in four ways: It can cause damage to the retina, lens, optic nerve and vitreous gel. There could be serious repercussions of diabetes to the eye including low vision and complete loss of vision. Diabetes blocks the retina and is capable of cutting off the total supply of oxygen.
  • Some of the common symptoms of retina related problems include double vision, a pressure in one eye, problems in corner vision, flashing lights, pain in the eye, blank spots etc. A simple check up by an oculist can reveal any eye problems related to diabetes.
  • An ophthalmologist can treat the diabetes-related eye problem by medicine that blocks the protein responsible for fluid leakage and blood vessel growth. He can also go for laser treatment to treat macular edema. Even scatter laser treatments are also used for this purpose. If all else fails a doctor chooses to perform a procedure known as vitrectomy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Hello lybrate-user. From the symptoms and signs described by you, it seems more likely to be due to allergy of the eyes. You should KNOW YOUR EYE ALLERGY first. •There are various EYE ALLERGIES TRIGGERS: A person can be allergic to: Pollen from grasses, weeds, and trees. These are the most common kinds of eye allergies and are called SEASONAL ALLERGIC CONJUNCTIVITIS. •Dust, pet dander, and other indoor allergens. These eye allergies last year-round and are called CHRONIC (PERENNIAL) CONJUNCTIVITIS. •Makeup, perfume, or other chemicals can trigger eye allergies called CONTACT CONJUNCTIVITIS. •An allergy to contact lenses, called GIANT PAPILLARY CONJUNCTIVITIS, makes eyes sensitive and red. Just like any other allergic reaction, they are caused by a MISFIRING OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, the body's natural defense mechanism. It releases HISTAMINE, a chemical that causes swelling and inflammation. Symptoms to Watch For •Red, irritated eyes •Itchiness •Tearing or runny eyes •Swollen eyelids •Soreness, burning, or pain •Sensitivity to light Usually you’ll also have other allergy symptoms, such as a stuffy, runny nose and sneezing. If there is discharge along with itching, irritation, use an antibiotic eye drops (moxifloxacin eye drops) 4 times in a day for 2 weeks. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Take care-regards-
