Psoriasis is manageble, the traditional approach is to start with the mildest treatments topical creams and ultraviolet light therapy (phototherapy) and then progress to stronger ones only if necessary. The goal is to find the most effective way to slow cell turnover with the fewest possible side effects coupled with a dietary therapy specially designed to manage psoriasis. Pimples occur mainly due to hormonal imbalances which causes an overproduction of oil and cells inside a skin follicle. They block the opening of the skin pore and cause the follicle under the skin to swell and become red. It usually starts in teenage, but most of the time lasts into adulthood. Pimples can’t be cured, but it can be controlled with treatment. There are many over the counter medications available in pharmacy but you need to use skin products which are most suitable to your skin. Avoid taking anti-acne medications without knowing a skin type. Contact a dermatologist in your area to know your the cause of your pimples and let them advise you the medications and skin products most suitable to your skin for remarkable results. Treatment of acne includes medicines to reduce the outgrowths, use of skin products such as face wash, cleansers, moisturisers according to your skin type and a whole range of aesthetic procedures like peels, laser therapy to reduce the current outbreaks and clean the skin, extract blackheads and whiteheads and clean clogged pores. They are safe and do not harm your skin in a long run. To know more about which cosmetic procedure is best for your skin type, contact your nearest dermatologist today.

All About Dermabrasion

MBBS, Diploma in Venerology & Dermatology (DVD)
Dermatologist, Delhi
All About Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a procedure where a brush made up of wire or a rough edged diamond wheel is used on the skin to remove the upper layer from the skin. The rotation of the brush causes the upper layer of the skin to come off and may cause bleeding. The skin that comes off is replaced with new skin.

Why it is done?

  1. The procedure may be used to treat various surgical scars.
  2. Usually this procedure is used to get rid of acne scars.
  3. The procedure is used to treat various superficial growths that occur on the skin such as small cysts.
  4. It may also be used to treat wrinkles around the mouth.

Procedure
The area where the procedure is carried out is marked and then cleaned properly. Local anesthesia is used to numb the skin followed by an application of ice pack for about half an hour. If the preceding procedures do not harden the skin enough, then a freezing spray may be used to firm up the skin. Gauze may be used to restrict the bleeding which results from the procedure. The area is then cleaned and ointment is applied.

Post-surgery
The depth and size of the procedure determines, how much time the recovery process will take. For example, a small patch of skin will take little time to heal compared to a full face dermabrasion. It usually takes 6 to 7 days for the skin to regrow, which is pink in color. The color tends to fade away in 2 to 3 months. Usually patients do not suffer from pain, but if you do have some pain then you can take pain relievers. Corticosteroids may be used to treat swellings, if any.

You need to follow certain precautionary measures after the surgery:

  1. Regular cleaning of the skin to avoid various infections of the skin.
  2. Regular changing of the dressing and the ointment to speed up the healing process.
  3. Sun exposure needs to be avoided as the new skin is prone to damage. You may use sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun's rays.

Fungal Infection- Fight It This Summer !

Fungal Infection- Fight It This Summer !

1) Wear well dried clothes. Sweating increases chances of fungal infection, try to change clothes if they get wet due to sweating.

2) Bathing twice a day with a mild PH balanced cleanser will help in keeping your skin fresh and healthy.
3) Boost your immune system to keep the infections away- eat a lot of fruits and curd, keep yourself hydrated by drinking a lot of liquids.
4) If you already have fungal infection and itching, do not buy yourself creams from medical shops without consulting a skin doctor, they mostly give steroid containing creams which give you relief for a while but the infection comes back!

Can I use panderm plus cream for skin lighting and fairness. Is this cream is safe to use? I have oily skin.

Can I use panderm plus cream for skin lighting and fairness. Is this cream is safe to use? I have oily skin.
Don't use Panderm + cream for fairness. It contains steroid + anti fungal + antibacterial combination. Long term use of steroids damages your skin. It has so many side effects. please stop using panderm + cream and consult nearby dermatologist. They will suggest skin lightening cream according to your skin condition.

I have pimple spots on my cheeks. How can I fade them away? And I have dark circles under my eyes. What should I do?

MD - Dermatology

I have pimple spots on my cheeks. How can I fade them away? And I have dark circles under my eyes. What should I do?
Dark circles can occur if you don't get adequate sleep, so make sure you get at least a six hour sleep. Don't rub your eyes since this can aggravate darkness. Eye cosmetics vil harm a lot, so keep away. If you have any dust allergy, get it treated. Spent less time with a computer. Correct any anaemia if present. Have green leafy vegetables. Avoid scrubbing your face. Do not steam or sauna. If you swim, use a sunscreen prior to it and after. Avoid face cosmetics for the time being. You can press powder onto your sunscreen if at all you want to use a cosmetic. Drink two litres of water everyday. Pick up carrots, papaya, pumpkin, black grapes to have everyday. These contain important antioxidants and phytonutrients which vil soften your skin. Do not stress over anything. Pray-itll distract you off your stress. You can use this do it yourself mask at home which vil give you an instant glow. Mix 1 tbsp puree each of papaya and carrot with 1 tbsp of curd and 1 tbsp of aloe vera. Apply it across your face or dull body part for ten to fifteen minutes and wash it off without soap. Apply kojivit gel twice daily over marks.

Hi, Blackheads or whiteheads are initial stage of acne. Wash your face with Schwabe's Akne Sor soap, use cleanser, toner and moisturizer on your skin. Apply Bakson's Sunscreen before going out. Use Bakson's Apricot scrub on the areas, followed by Papaya or Apple pack on it. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 30 days. Home Remedy: Mix fuller's earth, almond powder and glycerin , then apply this face pack on your face affected with blackheads and whiteheads. Keep this face mask on for 30 minutes and do mild scrubbing while removing this mask to eradicate blackheads effectively. For open pores: Open pores can be the result of lack of proper cleansing resulting in the deposit of oil, dirt or even dead skin in your pores. It is extremely important that you follow the ritual of a face clean at least once a week which includes a massage with a cream, exfoliation for the removal of dead skin cells and a face pack to close the pores opened while the process of exfoliation. This basic routine makes sure that your skin is always prepped up, cleansed and clear of impurities. - Lemons are one of the most widely used herbal remedy to shrink the open pores as they naturally tighten the skin and brighten it too. -Fruits like Papaya are best known for their exfoliation properties. Using a papaya for cleaning the face not only scrubs away all the impurities but also helps in removing black heads and other impurities of the skin. -Egg whites work as natural dryers of the skin and thus they greatly help in shrinking the pores and helping with the problem of open pores. -Another way of dealing with the problem of open pores is yoghurt. -Fuller’s earth is an excellent medium to control excessive oil and cleansing the skin gently and deeply. -Natural Astringent: there are several other natural astringents which can be used on the skin for the treatment of open pores like peach, pineapple, orange, strawberries and other citrus fruits. Apart from these, you can also use rose water and aloe vera gel for open pores. For acne marks: Home remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Also, use Bakson’s Apricot scrub 1-2 times a week on the area.
