Prepping For The Holiday Season - Quick Tips To Maintain Your Health & Fitness Goals!

We have now reached that time of the year when we all look forward to the festivities and celebrations for Christmas. And, it goes without saying that celebrating Christmas is synonymous with parties, which not only involves a get-together but also unlimited dance, food, and drinks. It is also that time of the year when we all forget our resolution of sticking to a healthy diet. But, why waste your entire year’s efforts when you can balance your efforts and at the same time, enjoy the Christmas week?

Surprised? Well, here are some Christmas party tips that will let you enjoy every bit of it without inviting any troubles related to health.

Prepping up for the Party

The most important thing to remember before the party is that you must not skip meals anticipating the high-calorie food that you would have at the party. Stick to your regular meals and also don’t forego your exercise routine.

  • General Tips
    • Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Consume not just water, but other healthy liquids as well.
    • Before hitting the party, have a small meal that will make you feel satiated. This will help avoid unnecessary snacking.
  • Special Diet Tip: Take juice and tender coconut water as drinks and egg whites, a bowl of soup, fruits, or diet chivda as snacks right before leaving for the party.
  • Cheat Tip: Drink a glass full of buttermilk before leaving for the party. It will keep you satiated and will also help prevent unnecessary bloating after the party.

The Party Day

When you are at the party, make wise choices rather than just gorging on unhealthy and fried snacks. It might seem to be a difficult task, but with a little effort, you can make healthier choices.

  • General Tips
    • Keep your focus on the dance floor and the party, rather than just focussing on what is being served.
    • Refrain from having food items that are deep-fried and choose steamed, boiled, or grilled food items.
    • Choose vegetables and lean meat rather than the noxious red meat.
    • Have salads without the creamy and fat-laden dressing. If pasta is on the menu, go for pasta in the red sauce rather than the cheesy white sauce, extremely high in calories.
    • Keep a check on your portion size by choosing a smaller plate and by sharing your food .
  • Special Diet Tip: Try fresh fruits, green veggies, steamed or boiled food items and whole grains.
  • Cheat Tip: Keep chewing a gum until you really feel like spitting it out. This will help you keep away from high-calorie fried and processed snacks.

Post-Party Recovery

Once the party is over, it is time to detoxify your body and to get back to your original plan. However, it is important to realize that there is no need to have guilty pangs for the food that you had at the party.

  • General Tips
    • Consume home-made food and limit your intake of oil, salt, and sugar.
    • Take green tea, infused water, or just plain water as it will help you to detoxify.
    • Eat whole grains and refrain from having processed food or any food item made of refined flour.
    • Choose whole fruits over fruit juice.
  • Special Diet Tip: Consume idli, poha, upma, or muesli for breakfast, whole grains and fruits for lunch, and dal, soup, curd, and salad for dinner.
  • Cheat Tip: Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up, two hours before every meal, and one hour after every meal. It will detoxify your body fast and keep you energetic throughout the day.

Adjustment Disorder - Symptoms, Types And Treatment

What Is Adjustment Disorder?

Adjustment disorder is considered to be a group of conditions, which usually occur when a person experiences difficulty in coping with the stressful life events. These usually include relationship issues, job issues or the demise of a loved one. The incapacity to adjust to stressful events leads to psychological and sometimes physical symptoms.

Symptoms of Adjustment Disorder

  1. The psychological and physical symptoms linked with adjustment disorder occur either during or instantly after a stressful event. The disorder only lasts for 6 months, but the symptoms might continue if the stressor has not been removed. The symptoms might vary from person to person.
  2. The psychological symptoms are anxiety, crying, impulsiveness, lack of concentration, low or loss of self-esteem, feeling hopeless, sad or trapped, and withdrawn attitude along with suicidal tendencies.
  3. These physical symptoms can include trembling, twitching of the muscles, soreness, body pain, insomnia, indigestion and fatigue.
  4. Adjustment disorder might display psychological and physical symptoms separately or together.

Types of Adjustment Disorder

There are 6 adjustment disorders and each one of them is associated with different symptoms:

  1. Adjustment disorder with depressed mood: People diagnosed with this suffer from feelings of hopelessness and sadness is often related with crying. Also, a person might not enjoy the activities, which he earlier enjoyed.
  2. Adjustment disorder with anxiety: Symptoms of this are anxiety along with being anxious, overwhelmed, and worried. People with this show less concentration and poor memory. When diagnosed in children, it is usually due to the separation anxiety from loved ones and parents.
  3. Adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood: In this both anxiety and depression is experienced.
  4. Adjustment disorder with disturbance of conduct: The symptoms of this disorder are more about the involvement of the behavioral issues like starting a quarrel, reckless driving, destructing property and stealing. Teens suffering from this might become absent from school.
  5. Adjustment disorder with mixed disturbance of emotions and conduct: The symptoms of anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues are observed.
  6. Adjustment disorder unspecified: People who are diagnosed with this type of disorder usually display symptoms those are not associated with other disorders. They exhibit more of physical symptoms and problems with family and friends or at school and workplace.

Treatment of Adjustment Disorder:

If diagnosed with an adjustment disorder, a person can definitely benefit from treatment. This is usually treated with therapy or medicines or a combination of both.

  1. Therapy is the first choice. A health counselor or a psychologist can give counseling and if there is a need for medication, then you might be referred to a psychologist.

How Homeopathy Can Help Manage Vulva Dryness?

The vaginal or the vulvar area is a well-lubricated area which serves various functions. Vaginal dryness can be not just an embarrassing issue, but an overall health issue. One of the main reasons for decreased sex drive in women is vaginal dryness. Though a woman of any age can have vaginal dryness, it is common for the following groups, menopause, after childbirth, during lactation, and in women on hormone replacement therapy. The hormone levels play a major role in the vaginal dryness, and so these conditions lead to increased dryness. It can also lead to vaginal itching and burning. It may also lead to bleeding in severe cases. There is a host of associated complaints like mood swings, irritability, depression, hot flushes, and reduced libido in these women. Homeopathy offers to help get rid of not just the dryness but these associated symptoms as well.

The most commonly used, three homoeopathic remedies for treating vaginal dryness are Sepia, Lycopodium, Platina, Argentum Nitricum, and Natrum Mur. Each of these should be used based on accompanying symptoms, and self-medication is not advised. The doctor will have a long discussion with you to identify the associated symptoms and then draw up a customised treatment plan. However, the indications for each of the ingredients are listed below. Given the sensitive nature of the topic, it is also advisable to include the partner in these discussions as they can cooperate and help in managing the mood swings and in working out alternatives to the impaired sexual life.

  1. Sepia: One of the most widely used compound to treat vaginal dryness, it yields great results when it is associated
    1. Painful sex and bleeding following intercourse
    2. Associated with menopause and therefore mood swings and hot flushes
    3. A bearing down sensation where the woman feels the uterus is going to slip down into the vagina
    4. Genitals are tender to the touch
    5. These women have an aversion to sex
  2. Lycopodium: This is another commonly used ingredient, and indicated in women who have vulvar dryness is associated with vaginal burning sensation
  3. Platina: The vaginal dryness is accompanied by genital hypersensitivity, increased sexual urge, and itching. It is also useful in cases of both dyspareunia and vaginismus (involuntary contractions of the vagina).
  4. Argentum Nitricum: This is most suitable when there is painful sex followed by bleeding.
  5. Natrum Mur: This is useful when there is itching and soreness in the vaginal area associated with an acrid discharge.
  6. Bellis perennis: This is useful when there is a bruised sensation in the vagina, which leads to interruption of intercourse.

As noted above, these are some common ingredients but should not be used without consultation with a doctor. Involving the partner is also useful in getting improved results.

The most common cause of breast pain is a change in hormones that comes along with your period. This normal body response to shifts in estrogen typically manifests in swelling and tenderness on the day before your period begins and the first day of your flow This type of boob soreness is called cyclic pain, since it's related to your menstrual cycle. However if there is any menstrual abnormalities/lumps/etc that needs to be identified and treated accordingly. Take Mag phos 6x - every 2 hourly for next 3 days with warm water for this. Continue treatment

Why is Antenatal Care Important?

Hello, I am Doctor Anjuli Dixit, practicing at Anjuli Nursing home, greater Faridabad sector 84. I want to talk regarding Antenatal care.

Antenatal care is a very important part of a pregnant woman’s life as it gives you direction to get a healthy motherhood and a healthy child. If you become booked under some gynecologist or an obstetrician, then you get many directions regarding the health issues of your fetus and you, yourself. So, I think it is very important for you to get booked under some gynecologist and get many questions which are unanswered for you to be answered as there are many issues which may become hidden because you are not knowing about them as some congenital malformation and some diseases which are prevailing inside the fetus but you are not knowing about them to become exposed if you are getting good antenatal care.

So, I think every pregnant woman should go under antenatal care and become booked under any obstetrician or gynecologist of her area. If you want to get booked then you can contact me at Anjuli Nursing Home, sector 84, Faridabad or you can consult me on lybrate.com .
