D = apply moist heat pad to affected joint and muscles. If still you dont get relief consult physiotherapist as there are various causes for leg/ joint pain and some test may be required for further investigation. Best wishes.

Back pain can result from bad posture, a sudden jerky movement, a lumpy mattress or poor lifting techniques. It can also be caused by injury in a work place, by a sports accident or by muscular spasms. It often occurs during pregnancy or, because of decreased flexibility, as people get older. There are also many diseases and pathological conditions that can lead to back pain. These include abdominal or pelvic disease, anxiety, arthritis, cervical or lumbar spondylosis, dermatological problems, kidney disease, rheumatic conditions, tumours and scoliosis. Our modern, sedentary lifestyles have a profound effect on the development of back pain; indeed one of the most effective ways of preventing it is simply to stay active. An average adult in the India spends at least two hours a day in front of a computer screen or television set, and back problems can be triggered if they don’t sit properly. In an age of mobile phones and computer games, such troubles are increasingly inflicting children of school age as well. Top tips for back care: For back pain, better to see your Doctor sooner than later. Take regular exercise – your Doctor can say what’s right for you. Hours in one position can cause problems – avoid computer ‘hump’. During repetitive tasks, vary your rhythm and take frequent breaks. Adjust car seats and on long journeys, take regular breaks to stretch. Pace yourself with heavy work such as gardening – don’t risk a disc! Watch children’s posture – they shouldn’t carry bags on one shoulder or spend too long at a computer without breaks. Avoid strain when lifting, particularly small children and shopping. Your bed could be part of the problem. Seek Doctor advice on choosing a new one. Take a hot bath or shower, soaking in a hot tub, or using a heating pad, hot water bottle, or heat wrap that provides continuous, low-level heat are all ways to bring healing warmth to your lower back.

Doctor, I have a sharp poking pain in my right knee. My xray report states reduction in joint space osteophytes seen. I also have continuous pain in the neck and my head too hurts sometimes. I have consulted and an orthopedic and he has stated that I should take vissco supplementation. Please help.

MPTh/MPT
Physiotherapist, Indore
Dear patient as you've mentioned that you've got reduction in the joint space and also there are osteophytes seen, this states why you're suffering from pain and discomfort. First of all you have to convince yourself that the treatment is lengthy and mostly active. I would suggest you to do some active self stretching followed by active rom exercises for each joint individually. Though you haven't mentioned anything about the type of work that you do because lifestyle plays a major role in deciding the prognosis of the disease. For quick pain relief you can always trust hot fomentation at home or you can visit nearest physiotherapy clinic. Try sitting in leg suspended position more and more. Though this will induce swelling in the knee but it'll subside once you do limb elevation and ice massage. Wearing the knee caps will also be a great help. Any problems you can always consult me on mail or this website. Hope this helps.

I have huge leg pain when I press my legs I am getting a hole where I press means in my leg water has entered.
You should immediately visit a local Doctor and have a physical check-up as pedal edema could be several reasons that needs to be corrected. It could be due to renal-disease/heart disease/loss of protein from body/venous problem. Till the time you can take Mag Phos 12 x - thrice daily and additional dose for pain when required. For further queries get back to me.

Greeting, I am 25 years old working in it company, I have back pain problem what can I do for that?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have back pain since a long time for which we will require evaluation. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like mri of your affected region of spine, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

I am 26 year old I have paining in all joint of legs how to ge relief from this problem please give me suggestion.
Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Hi, pain due to si (sacroiliac) joint is mainly localised to lower back (bit away from mid line) or reffered to posterior thigh, and pain due to disc herniation will be either localised at mid point of spine (axial) or radiates to leg. If problem is due to si joint then get si joint injection done, but if due to disc follow conservative management for 3-4 weeks, if no help then get transforaminal root sleeve epidural block done or some minimally invasive spine procedures depending upon grade of disc herniation (ranging from transforaminal nerve block to endoscopic discectomy. Hope it helps.
