Doing yoga esp bhujangasana regularly at lest for 5 mints will help you to reduce the pain as well as the disc bulge. Neurovascular Disaeses - What Are They?

MBBS, MD - Radiology, DNB (Radiology), DM (Diagnostic & Interventional Neuroradiology), CCST (UK)
Neurosurgeon, Kolkata
Neurovascular Disaeses - What Are They?

The term neurovascular disease refers to any kind of abnormality that can be observed in the blood vessels or in the blood supply to the spine or brain. The narrowing or shrinking of the arteries due to the plaque buildup also falls under this particular disease, which intervenes the normal blood flow to the brains, and makes the risk of stroke a more prominent one. If not treated at the right time in the right way, neurovascular diseases can not only cause disabilities in the adults, but may also be fatal.

Below are some of the common types of neurovascular diseases.

  1. Aneurysms: Aneurysms are a particular type of neurovascular disease where a vascular lesion or a balloon shaped abnormality manifests in the artery walls due to the walls' weakness or swelling. Vomiting, nausea and sudden headache of a severe kind are a few common symptoms of it.
  2. Arteriovenous malformation: When a defect is formed in the circulatory system which reduces the oxygen supply to the spinal cord and the brain, AVM or arteriovenous malformation occurs. While severe pain in the back is the main symptom of arteriovenous malformation in the spinal, headaches and seizures are common symptoms of the malformation in the brain.
  3. Arteriovenous fistulas: AVF or arteriovenous fistulas are nothing but some unnatural passageways in the vein and the arteries, encompassing the spinal cord and the brain. Here, the blood flows directly into a vein from the arteries through the fistulas, which gives rise to the blood bypassing the capillaries continuously.
  4. Carotid artery stenosis: When the carotid arteries, situated on the both sides of the neck and leads to the brain, starts to become narrower due to the plaque formation or the compositions of fatty deposits, the normal blood flow gets interrupted severely. Sometimes, mini-strokes or transient ischemic attacks are its first signs.
  5. Moyamoya disease: It’s comparatively a very rare condition where some blood vessels in the brains close due to blood clots. Some of its early warning signs are speech problems, weakness, limp paralysis and headaches.
  6. Cavernous malformation: Cavernous malformation refers to a neurovascular disease where not only the malformation occurs in the blood vessels, but they bleed too. Blood leaking from the affected blood vessels makes signs like seizures, vision loss or difficulties in swallowing, visible.
  7. Stroke: A stroke is a neurological event that happens all of a sudden, without any warning. As a result of it, often a new onset of different neurological symptoms becomes visible. Hemorrhagic stroke, transient ischemic attack, and cerebral infarction or ischemic stroke are three common types of strokes.

Neurovascular diseases are one of the main illness conditions that affect a considerable number of the population worldwide. Therefore, having a proper idea about the types and consulting with a doctor in case one suspects having any of the neurovascular diseases, is of crucial importance for leading a safe and healthy life. Consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

What is symptoms of heart disease? How can we identify any heart related disease?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
What is symptoms of heart disease? How can we identify any heart related disease?
You can save time during a cardiac emergency by planning ahead. Here are some ways to prepare for a heart attack and possibly increase your chances of survival. 1. Know the warning signs Not everyone who has a heart attack experiences the same symptoms, and some people have no symptoms at all. There are, however, some common ones you should know: Chest discomfort (pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain) Pain radiating to the arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach Shortness of breath Other symptoms, for example, sweating, nausea, vomiting or lightheadedness 2. Know what to do If you experience symptoms of a heart attack: Call 911 immediately. Because emergency personnel can begin treatment before you reach the hospital, transport to the hospital in an ambulance is the best way to receive prompt care. If calling 911 is not possible, have someone drive you to the hospital. Do not drive yourself to the hospital unless you have absolutely no other alternative. While waiting for help to arrive, chew a regular-dose aspirin to help prevent blood clots. Take with a glass of water. If you have been prescribed nitroglycerin tablets or spray for angina, take one to three doses to see whether symptoms are relieved. Lie down, breathe deeply and slowly, and try to stay calm. 3. Develop an action plan If you are at high risk for a heart attack, consider some of the following suggestions: Think what you would do if you had a heart attack in various situations, such as at home or while driving. Decide who would take care of any dependents. Make sure these backup people are willing to help out in an emergency. Write down a list of medications you are currently taking, medications you are allergic to, your doctors' phone numbers (both during and after office hours) and contact information for a friend or relative. Keep copies of this information in several places, such as at home, at work, in your car and in your wallet or purse. Give instructions to your family and friends. Tell them the warning signs of a heart attack and what to do if you experience these signs. Encourage them to take a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) class so that they can provide assistance if your breathing or heart stops before the ambulance arrives. Keep a bottle of aspirin in your home, car, office and toiletry bag. Always have your cell phone with you in case you need to call for help. Failing Libido- What You Need to Do

Failing Libido- What You Need to Do

Your fantasies might have taken a backseat for the time- being or might have remained silenced for more than a while. The other processes of your usual life go on perfectly except for a few changes that you either consider as minute or you attribute them to any cause other than lowered libido. Failing libido can create hurdles in a man as well as a woman's life and thus should be treated at the earliest possible. Even if you don't care much about an impaired sex life; failing libido can bring about considerable changes in your overall health that can prove to be harmful in the long run.

The common causes of decreased libido can be listed as below:

  1. Terminal illnesses like cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders can hamper your sex drive.
  2. Acute exhaustion from performing at work, tending to a family or to a new born can rid you of all energy.
  3. An instance of sexual abuse in the past can result in lowered libido.
  4. A lousy lifestyle where you either smoke or drink regularly can prevent you from experiencing sexual desires.
  5. Irregular sleep patterns can be a contributing factor as well.
  6. In males testosterone levels may sharply drop due to aging. However, in females estrogen levels may drop after surgeries pertaining to the vaginal tract, after menopause or after childbirth and subsequent breast- feeding.

Ways to deal with your failing libido:

  1. Take Bupropion to help your case: Dopamine and norepinephrine are two basic hormones particularly necessary for a good sex drive. The consumption of Bupropion is capable of inducing the secretion of these two hormones.
  2. Try Eating a Mediterranean diet: A Mediterranean diet is perhaps the most reliable solution for a majority of diseases that plague men and women of modern times. This diet is known to treat failing libido in elderly people as well. A Mediterranean diet requires you to eat lots of vegetables and olive oil, while protein should be consumed in limited portions.
  3. Meditate on a Daily Basis: Meditation concentrates your complete energy on the well- being of your mind and body. It helps you to be conscious and aware of the sensations you feel or may feel. When continued over a long stretch of time, it can restore your interest in sexual activities.
  4. Make significant efforts to change your lifestyle: If you have an erratic lifestyle, sexual dysfunction is almost inevitable. You need to follow a routine to prohibit your libido from failing you.

Hello. I would like to know how can a person prepare to take a patient under depression to the doctor when he is not ready, thinking he/she is perfectly fine and does not need help.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
This is the problem with a lot of people who suffer from various mental disorders: they do not accept that there is a problem and do not cooperate, as a result. I guess you have tried many possible ways. There is one option to explore: take her/his parents to meet with a psychiatrist, with all the relevant information from that person?s childhood to date. Ask the doctor if you could administer the medication to the patient, if prescribed, very subtly to be mixed into her food or drink. This might affect the mood of the patient to become more amenable to seeing the doctor over some time. Otherwise you will have to wait for the condition to become severe that she is not in a position to even decide. But that entails the risk of the patient becoming chronic and adverse to medical intervention. The last option is to take her by force, which should be employed under really impossible circumstances.

Hair on Male's body is due to androgen hormones. It is outcome of hyper-functioning of androgens. So for that you need to take Pituitarinum 30C one dose now, 2nd dose tomorrow morning and 3rd dose tomorrow night. This will tend to normalise the functions of androgens. You will feel positive changes with 2 weeks itself. And for whole thing, it might take 4-5 months. And if you wish to go for it instantly, then you can go for Laser therapy. Then choice is yours. Take care... :)

Dear Lybrate User, *Like honey, lemons are also believed to be a quite effective natural treatment for getting rid of pimples. Lemons can help avoiding pimples in more than one way. Lemon juice reduces the oil, kills bacteria, reduces redness and also removes the pimple scars. To use it over your pimples squeeze some fresh lime juice over a cotton swab or a cotton ball and apply it over your face. It can give quick results.
