I am suffering from sugar and I really want to be diabetes free. What to do to control it with no time to waste?

I am suffering from sugar and I really want to be diabetes free. What to do to control it with no time to waste?
Real key to control your diabetes is combination of diet, exercise and drugs. Daily waking for 40 to 60 min. Avoiding sweet, white rice, potatoes and fried food, and regular checking of hba1c every 6 months is essential. Your diabetologist will change drugs and dosage frequently to control sugar. Follow his advise. In addition you can take ayurvedic medicines also.

Hello, in t2 diabetes treatment is usually begun with oral anti diabetes drugs, like metformin, glimepiride, gliptins and thiozolidinedions etc. Later insulin is used if oral drugs do not work or there very severe diabetes. In t1 insulin is the only treatment. As regards food intake a person with diabetes has to have a balanced diet like all of us. But should avoid simple sugars, sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products, high fat cheese, saturated fats, highly processed foods, butter and ghee. Should consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads, fruits and use whole grain products and avoid refined flours. As regards cooking oils a mix of oils should be used.

Dear lybrate user, one of the major nutritional substance required for human body is carbohydrate. We take carbohydrate in the form of rice, wheat, sugar etc. The complex molecules of carbohydrate are broken down into simple glucose molecules during digestion & released in the blood stream to be absorbed by the muscle cells. Muscle cells utilise the glucose molecules to release energy by breaking down those glucose molecules. Insulin hormone plays a vital role in the absorption of the glucose molecules by the muscle cells. In abnormal conditions, either due to less production of insulin or due to resistance to insulin, the process of absorption of glucose by the muscles comes to a stand still. The glucose molecules remains in the bloodstream which results in the increase in the blood sugar level. The failure of utilisation of the glucose molecules by the muscle cells results in production of less energy than normal condition. This is externally manifested as the fatigue & tiredness of the patient. This excess amount of blood sugar compels the kidney to function more than normal level in order to excrete the blood sugar molecules through urine. As a result the patient suffers from frequent urination. This abnormal condition is clinically known as diabetes mellitus. Once a patient is diagnosed with diabetes he has to take regular medicine to keep his blood sugar level within normal limits. Take homoeopathic mother tincture gymnema sylvestra q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. Also you need to walk at least 1 hour daily without any interval. Also you need to take a low carbohydrate rich diet. Avoid rice, sweet dishes, fruits, cold drinks, fast foods, alcoholic beverages, potato etc.

Is thyroid a curable disease? Give a diet plan on what to eat and what should not eat for a thyroid patient.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology, Diploma in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics, Cetificate Course In Thyroid Disorders Management (CCMTD)
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Please explain what particular condition are you referring by saying "thyroid disease" Because there are two major conditions: hypothyroidism and hyperthyrpoidism. There is no specific diet for thyroid disease. Only if someone has hypothyroidism then soy beans and soy containing products should be avoided. Plus one should consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Always use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Should avoid maida and products made from it. Thanks.
