I have chills, fever, headache, diarrhea, bodypains and vomiting since 3 days. What should I do?
Fever is not considered medically significant until body temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever serves as one of the body's natural defenses against bacteria and viruses which cannot live at a higher temperatures..Also, the body's defense mechanisms seem to work more efficiently at a higher temperature -Fevers of 104 F (40 C) or more may be dangerous and demand immediate treatment The following medications may be used at home for mild fever : -Acetaminophen (dolo-650 mg) twice or thrice can be used to lower a fever . Aspirin should not be used in children during a viral illness. -Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes and donot overdress. Overdressing can cause the temperature to rise further. -Tepid water (85 F [30 C]) baths may help bring down a fever -The body should be cooled with a wet sponge. -Fever can cause dehydration.Drink plenty of fluids.Have citrus fruits, particularly Vitamin C rich ones like mausami,Amla juice etc. -Take light and easily digestible home cooked meals .avoid outside food -Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water especially before meals, or after returning from a public places or using public transport. -Further therapy depends on the cause of fever like urinary infection/typhoid or malaria/dengue infection and the accompanying symptoms that need to be investigated and treated accordingly take pantocid dsr twice daily for vomitings

This is a case of IBS and in this condition Milk should be restricted; in that place you can increase intake of Yogurt (curd)-which has a dual benefit for you; You can take Tab. Pancreoflat twice a day for 2 weeks then once a day for 2 weeks-it contains Lipase and Amylase you can tolerate milk better.

Laparoscopic surgery for Gall Stones

MS - General Surgery, MBBS
General Surgeon, Delhi
Laparoscopic surgery for Gall Stones

What is laparoscopic surgery?

Laparoscopic surgery is the technique of performing surgery by making small cuts (5-10 mm usually) over the abdomen and inserting special instruments through them. Hence the name 'keyhole' surgery. The surgeon performs surgery using these special instruments, one of which is a camera while looking at the image on a screen.

The advantage of this procedure over traditional surgery is that since there is the absence of a large incision, pain is much less, recovery is faster, the hospital stay is less, complications are less.

On top of this, there is a cosmetic benefit of absence of scar!!

Nowadays, we perform almost all abdominal surgeries laparoscopically including those for appendicitis, gallstones, hernia, GERD (reflux disease), peptic ulcers, achalasia cardia, spleen removal, pancreatic surgery, liver surgery, surgery for cancers of stomach, food pipe (esophagus), small intestine and large intestine (colon and rectal cancers), hysterectomy (uterus removal) and nephrectomy (kidney removal).

In addition, we also perform specialised surgeries like those for morbid obesity laparoscopically. One of our award winning videos has been for sympathectomy for excessive sweating over palms, axilla and feet.

So, welcome to the world of Minimal Access Surgery.

Advantages of keyhole surgery:

Cosmetic
Minimal pain
Fast recovery
Shorter hospitalization
Faster return to daily routine
Earlier return to work
Less wound infection complications
Fewer chances of postoperative chest infection

As far your heart problem is concerned, get your self examined by a cardiologist. As far as your digestive disorder is concerned, observe the following------*Diet –Avoid fried, spicy and sour foods. *Maintain food timings-neither stomach should be empty nor heavy, frequent small helpings may be ok. *Prefer – whole grains, milk, curd, greens, fruits and such items which suit you. *Have timely and adequate sleep. *. Drinking lots of water is good.*Be relaxed and avoid tension *. Daily jogging or such exercise to ensure good blood circulation which helps digestion, dissipation of gases and nutrients reaching the body *Increased blood circulation, in turn, takes away toxins from the system making you more active agile and fit. Digestive disorder and flatulence bloats your abdomen causing pressure on other adjacent organs. Homoeopathy has good treatment for stomach pain acidity and flatulence without adverse effects. Take Nux vomica 200 in the morning and in the evening for 6 days and give feedback.

Keep a food diary and track your food habits
One thing that helped my patients a lot was to keep a food diary. They write down every thing one eats and why one was eating. Such as, hungry, not hungry, kind of mood while taking a meal, etc. One learns a lot about himself eg: some people eat when bored, some when happy. Some are emotional eaters too. This information will also help me counsel you and chart for you the perfect diet plan guaranteed to reduce or gain weight!

So dont wait start keeping a food diary and revert back with me for any help!

Thank you for the query. GERD as you may be knowing causes symptoms like heartburn and acidic taste in the mouth. Since you already have Barrett's oesophagus (abnormal change in the cells of the lower portion of the esophagus), an Endoscopic surveillance at routine intervals is advisable. A burning sensation/discomfort localised in the abdomen, may be due to an associated gastritis/duodenitis. You continue with the es-omeprazole as prescribed. Avoid painkillers like Diclofenac and Ibuprofen as they can aggravate the symptoms. I would suggest you to visit your physician/gastroenterologist for a repeat endoscopy. Sucralfate suspension before meals my be helpful. Regards.
