I have tinnitus problem in my left ear. I hear faint whistling sound non - stop. It first started around 4 months ago. It stopped for a few weeks and again started. What should I do and what precautions should I take to avoid severeness? Can it be self-cured? What medicines should I take?

MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Gandhinagar
Tinnitus is a common problem usually associated with deafness. It is of two types, subjective and objective. In objective tinnitus you can find out the cause of tinnitus while in subjective it is difficult to find the cause. Treatment consisit of reassurance and certain vasodilator and vitamin treatment. In objective tinnitus you may require surgery if cause is confirmed by all mod of diagnosis including ct scan.

It looks like infection of ear, especially if you are also having cold too. Best thing is to consult an ent surgeon because it may have caused hole in your eardrum. By that time you can take mild painkiller like paracetamol and use some antibiotics ear drops. Do not allow water entering your ear at all. Do not clean your ear enthusiastically.

I am 24 years old female. My nose is most of the time blocked and I have to breathe through my mouth. Also I have dust allergy. What should I do?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Delhi
As u told u have dust allergy and nose block there are chances of polyp formation in your nose. Start tab. Allegra-m daily at bed time and ezicas-f nasal spray 2 puffs twice a day for 2 weeks along with that steam inhalation. If u don' t get relief after this get ct scan done to confirm the diagnosis.

My mom is having Tinnitus (probably don't know exact term, but according to her symptoms it looks like Tinnitus). She is being consulting many doctors for many years, all have helped to reduce the voice, but not completely. Can you help me with the cure?

MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Faridabad
Tinnitus can indeed be a very troublsome. I have been seeing a lot of tinnitus patients, the most important factor is to determine whether it is associated with hearing loss or not. Get a pure tone audiometry and consult me with the report. There are a lot of tinnitus retraining strategies which can help your mother.

Gud evening sir, I've been a sinus patient since more than 5 years. Doctor asked me to undergo surgery because I had polyps. But I didn't want to undergo surgery because I had others surgeries on me since my childhood. Now my sinusitis is not acute like before. So will there be any problem if I live with it like that.

Hi I m 41 yrs old have a habit of snoring. I drink and smoke occasionally. Do I need any kind of operation. Please tell me more about this operation and cost.

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Snoring occurs due to resistance to the airway that may be due to local factors like enlarged tonsil, adenoids, fatty neck, bulky tongue. Now a days many modalities are available to find out the underlying cause and treatment of snoring like laser, coblation etc. So consult an ent specialist for this. Do steam inhalation and use nasivion nasal drops 2-2-2-2 for 2 weeks. U will feel better. Let me know if u r interested.

Yes you need check up of your ear drum, if it is intact than no worry et al, but if symptoms are due to perforation of the ear drum than you may require ear surgery, some times these symptoms are due to hard wax, than only cleaning is required.
