Hello, am 32 years old male and I hail from Kerala. I was working in India till 2014 and moved to UAE in 2015. I used to catch cold and get headache in winter season in India. And ever since I came here I get headache very frequently during winter season. If I walk in the park or place where cool breeze flowing I get headache and initially I didn't know what was the cause. When I told this to my sis in law, who is a qualified nurse, said it is sinusitis and advised me to take steam all the time. Although taking steam helps me lot I want a permanent cure for this. Because I have running nose almost round the year. When I start eat anything spicy mucus starts coming and I have to run for the tissue. It embarrasses me at times. So all these symptoms are just of sinusitis or something else? I have not consulted with any physician regarding this. Please advise.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana

There are several reasons for cough. If it is mild cough and of recent onset it will go away on its own. Just avoid chilled, spicy, fried food. Do warm water gargles, If cough is severe or of long duration you must consult your local doctor and after proper examination he can prescribe necessary medicines.

My dad is suffering from PTB doctor suggested to have bronchoscopy for understanding weather its of type mdr or not? What should we do? Should we wait for results of first line medicine or go with test? How much is cost of bronchoscopy in mumbai? And is it hurting patient in any way?

MD - General Medicine, MBBS
General Physician,
Hi lybrate-user, If your doctor might have asked for a bronchoscopy then I believe they have tested his sputum and found him to be still positive, despite treatment. If that is the case, then it is advisable to get it done as you need to know if your father is suffering from MDR TB. The treatment for MDR is a lot different from the fisrt line therapy in terms of drug used and also the duration of treatment. Sorry I cannot accurately tell you about the pricing in Mumbai, but I believe it can range from 2500 to 15000 depending on the centre. It is usually a painless procedure but can cause a lot of discomfort, depending on the expertise of the doctor.

Hi I have asthma problems, and I want to about it's permanent cure. Is there any medicine which can do this?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
No, asthma cannot be cured. Montemac L is a controlled medicine for allergic asthma. If you are able to remain symptom free by using it daily, I would suggest you to continue it for at least 3 months continuously. I would suggest you to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will suggest you allergy testing. This will help you identify substances causing symptoms to you as well as precautions regarding how to avoid them. Also, an Allergist may suggest you specific allergen immunotherapy depending upon the results of allergy testing, which may improve your allergy symptoms. Please try to avoid exposure to smoke, dusts and air pollution as much as possible. Also please do not smoke if you are a smoker. A nutritive diet rich in vitamins & minerals including anti-oxidants is very important to support immune system. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises which help you in a long run.

My 5 year daughter has asthma. What is the effect of using an asthma preventer long time? I heard that using for the year might cause bone shrinkage. Is it true?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
High doses of inhaled steroids taken long-term, however, may decrease bone density, which increases the chance of bone fractures. People older than age 50 should have regular bone density scans and take calcium and vitamin D supplements. But a your daughter is just 5 so you can go for such medicines if you likes so.Myself being a homoeopath will suggest you to go for homoeopathic treatment.a homoeo meddicines dont have any side effects.
