It's a good medication. No permanent treatment for epilepsy, few surgery are available, but done in resistant cases only. Needs assessment of seizure to clearly say that. If your seizure is controlled on medication then just continue medication, don't worry.

Hi. Thanku for writing into Lybrate. Headache is pain in any region of the head. Headaches may occur on one or both sides of the head, be isolated to a certain location, radiate across the head from one point, or have a viselike quality. A headache may appear as a sharp pain, a throbbing sensation or a dull ache. Headaches can develop gradually or suddenly, and may last from less than an hour to several days. If You give through a description of the condition, the type of pain and the timing and pattern of attacks and food habits. It can be helpful for us to give appropriate medication. Here by I am advicing few General medication which helps to relieve headache. Medication:-According to ayurveda based on individuals prakruti i, e body constitution, age, diet and life styles. In classics different modalities of treatment has been mentioned like shodhana (Panchakarma-detoxification procedure of the body), Shamana (internal medicine). Ayurvedic therapies (panchakarma) for migraine: 1.Shirolepa – Application of herbal pastes which pacify Pitta Dosha like Sandalwood, camphor, Jatamansi. 2.Shiro Dhara – pouring of thin stream of liquid over scalp. 3.Shiro basti-Retaining the medicated oils over the leather cap fitted over the scalp. Any vata-pitta pacifying oils are beneficial for this purpose. 4.Sneha nasya – Instillation of medicated oils can be carried to the nostrils. Shamana (Internal medication):- 1.Pathyadi khada-10 ml with warm water twice a day after food. 2.Tab Niargim-1 tab twice a day after food. 3.Tab Kamaduga with mouktik-1 tab twice a day before food. Tips:- 1.Do not take pain mitigating medicines frequently. Over intake of pain medicines may cause rebound headache and may eventually increase the frequency of migraines. 2.Make sure to sleep and eat at regular intervals. 3.Make sure to sleep at least 7 hours at night. 4.Avoid fasting. It will increase both Pitta and Vata dosha, worsening migraines. Do not skip meals. 5.Quit smoking and get rid of alcoholic addiction 6.Do not drink strong coffee / tea. Make it light. 7.Do not take too hot water bath or too cold water bath. 8.Avoid spicy n fermented food.

Your symptoms are that of migraine headache. 1)For headache relief take simple analgesics like paracetamol. 2)If frequency of migraine attacks is more than 1 episode in 1 week or you have severe disabling attacks, you will need to start medicines to decrease frequency and intensity of headache. 3) Follow lifestyle changes as below Follow these lifestyle changes to avoid headache 1. Maintain regular sleep wake cycle, even on holiday's. 2. Don't skip meals. Take regular healthy diet with adequate fluids 3. Do not consume excess caffeine / carbohydrates / alcohol or smoke. 4. In some cases, a low carbohydrate, high-fat diet known as the ketogenic diet may be prescribed to help treat children with epilepsy and prevent seizures.

Know Your Triggers, Prevent Seizures

Epileptic seizures are often associated with particular triggers or changes in your daily habits or routine. Here are some common behaviors and factors that may trigger an epileptic seizure:

.Stress, anxiety, or other emotional issues
.Alcohol or drug abuse or the process of quitting alcohol or drugs
.Change in sleep schedules, feeling very tired, or significant sleep deprivation
.A change in medications, or skipping or missing a dose of .anti-seizure medication
.Something that overstimulates the senses, like lights that flash brightly, watching television, playing video or computer games, or working on a computer
.Hormonal changes in women, often from pregnancy or menstruation
.Mental strain, such as from solving complex problems

You can't always predict what will trigger an epileptic seizure; sometimes they'll occur for no apparent reason. But many people are able to see a correlation between certain behaviors and their seizures. By taking steps to minimize these factors, you may be able to prevent seizures.

Seizure Prevention Tips

Here are some tips that may help reduce your risk of having an epilepsy seizure:

Get plenty of sleep each night — set a regular sleep schedule, and stick to it.
Learn stress management and relaxation techniques.
Avoid drugs and alcohol.
Take all of your medications as prescribed by your doctor.
Avoid bright, flashing lights and other visual stimuli.
Skip TV and computer time whenever possible.
Avoid playing video games.
Eat a healthy diet.
Until more is known about the causes of epilepsy and how it can be prevented, your best bet to prevent seizures associated with epilepsy is to avoid the things that can trigger your seizures. This can make a measurable difference in the number of seizures you have.

Do Juvenile Myclonic epilepsy has anything to do with memory problems? I have this disease and facing too much memory problems and confusion.

Hello, most of the patients with jme have normal memory and cognitive function, but some people might suffer from these. In addition these problems may also be due to anti epileptic drugs the effect of which cannot be separated. Kindly let me know what drugs you are using for jme.

Sleep disturbance is v common disorder, usually correctable by adapting simple sleep hygeine measure - avoiding stress if possible, doing regular exercise, avoiding exess tea/coffee and if not improved then taking short course of medicine.

My grand mother is suffering from Parkinson but the bigger problem is that she gets fainted when she walks or sits. Is there any thing by which she can walk properly or even sit properly. Her age is about 75 years. She has problem of even getting up from bed.

She probably has postural hypotension. Bp has to be checked in lying and standing position. If it drops by more than 20 mm then she will need medications. Alternatively she may be having multisystem atropy or drug induced bp fall on standing.

Appetite:

Exercise:
No matter how often you eat right, how many hours of sleep you get and whether or not you count calories, until and unless your exercise daily you'll never be able to have a totally healthy lifestyle.

Frequency:
The first step towards a long term healthy lifestyle is frequency. It takes 21 days to form a habit, after that it seems just natural. You need to be frequent and consistent to attain such long term goals.

Green tea:
It helps boost the metabolic rate, reduce the belly fat and can lower the risk of various diseases. Try to drink at least 3-5 cups of green tea every day. Plus its 0 calories, so what's the harm?

Home food:

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do reply back for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

My question is wife aged 33 years is a Ms. patient since 1999/2000 there are no repeat attacks Ms. but in the Feb 2014 she had an epilepsy attack and it has occurred 5 times until now with no regular intervals, now problem with her is she is having cramps in the head which some times starts from legs too Also her memory is very weak cannot remember/recall easily.
